The Best and Worst Fabrics to Wear in the Summer

Do you ever feel like some of your clothes leave those gross sweat marks while some leave you fresh and smooth? Well, it's all because of the fabric!

There are many types of fabrics in the world that make up all of our clothes. Depending on the material and the fabric, the way it feels, the way it smells, and the way it absorbs or repels sweat will differ. If you're always leaving sweat marks and stains in your clothes these hot summer months, it may actually be because of the type of material your shirt is made of. Learn which materials you should avoid in the summer, and which materials you should wear instead.

Fabrics to Avoid

To avoid those stains and to stop feeling uncomfortable, here are the types of fabrics to avoid wearing.

Rayon

Rayon is made from a combination of cotton, wood pulp and other synthetic fibers. This man-made, synthetic material is light, flexible, and will not stick to your body. But, it will ward off water and sweat rather than absorb it, and that's the last thing you want when it's hot and you're already sweating like crazy. But on the other hand, if you don't sweat so much and you want to keep cool, rayon would not be a bad choice for you.

Denim

It's clear why denim isn't recommended to wear in hot weather. It is difficult for the thick material to absorb sweat. Although denim skirts and jackets are cute, it's better if you avoid them during the hot summer months.

Polyester

Polyester is known to be fairly stain-resistant and easy to clean. Unfortunately, it's really bad at absorbing moisture. As a result, you'll be sticky all day and it will also make you feel hotter, especially if what you're wearing is black.

Fabrics to Wear

Now that you know what not to wear, here's what you should wear instead.

Cotton

Cotton and summer go hand in hand. This material is made of natural fibers, allowing air to circulate and move freely so there are no damp areas in your clothing. The air circulation allows you to stay cool and smooth! Since cotton wrinkles easily though, make sure you hang your cotton dresses and shirts rather than putting them in your drawer.

Chambray

Chambray is your go-to fabric in the summer if you're missing your denim. It looks similar, but it's so much lighter and it's more breathable. Chambray is also good at absorbing sweat, so you won't have to worry about those devastating stains!

Linen

You've probably also heard of linen being a great material for the summer. This is because its lightweight formula allows heat to escape from your body, which is exactly what you need during the hot months. It doesn't stick either, so linen is definitely a good choice for anyone who constantly sweats.

So, now that you know why different fabrics feel different and act differently, it's time you take off your jeans and your rayon shirt and change into a cotton dress or a chambray jumpsuit! You know, knowledge of what you're wearing and how you're wearing it is also a really important factor when it comes to fashion.
