About vivo Y11
The Budget-friendly Vivo Y11
Vivo is one of the most affordable brands of smartphones available in the Philippines. Filipinos patronage their entry-level to premium devices. Nevertheless, a huge part of the market desires for budget-friendly entry-level smartphones like Vivo Y11. In October 2019, Vivo dropped the Vivo Y11 to outmatch the likes of OPPO A5s. Vivo Y11 is a pretty affordable device with a PHP 5,999 price tag. It houses a 6.35-inch screen; an Android 9.0 operating system; an on-board internal storage of 32GB with 3GB of RAM; dual 13-megapixel plus 2-megapixel camera module on the back; an 8-megapixel selfie snapper; 5,000mAh battery.
The Vivo Y11 package is simple and straight-forward with the white box with the product's name and image printed on the front. Uncovering past it, there are a lot of accessories and warranty card. There is a pair of white earphones, a regular micro USB 2.0 connector, and a 10W wall charger. There is also a free silicone protective case, which can be used to significantly increase security from scratches and damages from accidental drops. To eject the SIM tray, there is a small pin that can do the job. Inside, there greets the handset itself.
Pros of Vivo Y11
- It has a large battery of 5,000mAh
- It comes with a fingerprint scanner
- Audio quality is good enough
- It is under PHP 6000
- It looks more premium than what you pay for
Cons of Vivo Y11
- It has a mediocre chipset performance
- It has a lower resolution for a 6.35" screen
- It has an old Bluetooth version
- It only has one storage variant
- It has a hybrid SIM slot
Design of Vivo Y11
The design of the Vivo Y11 is quite similar to that of the other latest Vivo smartphones. In the front, it has a glass panel; the side bezels are thin, the forehead part is slightly thin, while the chin is substantially thick. The former houses the 8-megapixel selfie camera together with an earpiece griller, and sensors like the proximity sensor. On the back, specifically at the bottom-center, there placed the inscription of the Vivo branding logo. The dual rounded camera module is flashed on the upper left corner with the LED flash under it. It also packs the fingerprint sensor for biometric security. When glanced, the Vivo Y11 has a mirror-like gradient finish to it, but when looking very closely, you can tell it is made of plastic. Indeed, making it appear like an expensive device from afar is an excellent move for Vivo. The glass panel upfront doesn't have a specific Corning Gorilla Glass; it wasn't also indicated anywhere, so we can assume it was made by an OEM. The glass is sloped with 2.5 edges around the corners of the glass which makes the display more attractive to look at easy to hold. While the round corners of the device may not provide the most secure lift to it, still Vivo Y11's design language allows some one-hand operations. Other physical buttons such as the power key and the volume rocker are situated on the right side of the frame, while on the left, there lies the hybrid SIM tray which can be ejected with a SIM ejector pin. On the bottom, a single loudspeaker grilled, a dated micro USB port, a 3.5mm headphone jack, and a microphone are present, while there is nothing at the top. In addition, the device is only available in two color options which are Coral Red and Jade Green.
Display of Vivo Y11
Vivo Y11 only has an HD+ resolution while it uses an IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen, 16M colors. The size of the display is considered large especially because it is a budget smartphone. It has a 6.35-inch display with a resolution of 720 x 1544 pixels. Its aspect ratio is the traditional 16.9 with a pixel density of 268 ppi. The display has an 81.4% screen-to-body ratio and unidentified maximum nits. Overall, it may not be that legible outdoors, especially against direct sunlight, but is good enough to watch HD YouTube videos and other internet contents.
Performance of Vivo Y11
The Vivo Y11 houses an old and a quite mediocre chipset--the Qualcomm SDM439 Snapdragon 439 chipset. This means that the device has a quad-core processor with Cortex-A53 clocked @ 1.95GHz and another quad-core in Cortex-A53 at 1.45GHz. An Adreno 505 GPU model is also paired with the chipset. Despite having low-end internals, at least, the device packs a decent 3GB RAM, which can still rival some of the entry-level smartphones nowadays. Nevertheless, Y11 can handle basic tasks, just avoid heavy gaming and too many images stored on the smartphone. Here are benchmark scores of Vivo Y11, 3DMark 2560x1440 Sling Shot Extreme (Vulkan) Unlimited Graphics – 411 points, 3DMark 2560x1440 Sling Shot Extreme (Vulkan) Unlimited – 501 points, 3DMark 2560x1440 Sling Shot Extreme (ES 3.1) Unlimited Physics – 1582 points, 3DMark 2560x1440 Sling Shot Extreme (ES 3.1) Unlimited Graphics – 432 points, 3DMark 2560x1440 Sling Shot Extreme (ES 3.1) Unlimited – 505 points, 3DMark 2560x1440 Sling Shot OpenGL ES 3.0 Unlimited Physics – 1602 points, 3DMark 2560x1440 Sling Shot OpenGL ES 3.0 Unlimited Graphics – 735 points, GFXBench (DX / GLBenchmark) 2.7 1920x1080 T-Rex HD Offscreen C24Z16 - 23 frame rate per second, T-Rex HD Onscreen C24Z16 – 35 frames per second, GFXBench 3.0 off screen Manhattan Offscreen OGL – 9.8 frames per second, on screen Manhattan Onscreen OGL – 19 frames per second, BaseMark OS II Web – 849 points, BaseMark OS II Graphics – 1009 points, BaseMark OS II Memory – 1287 points, BaseMark OS II System – 2587 points, Geekbench 5 Vulkan – 0 percent, Geekbench 5 OpenCL Score – 252 points, Geekbench 5 64 Bit Multi-Core – 812 points, Geekbench 5 64 Bit Single-Core – 176 points, PCMark for Android Work 2.0 performance – 4664 points, PCMark for Android Work performance – 6076 points, 3DMark 2560x1440 Sling Shot Extreme (Vulkan) Unlimited Physics – 2118 points, AnTuTu v8 UX – 11374 points, AnTuTu v8 MEM 30734 points, AnTuTu v8 GPU – 108-3 points, and AnTuTu v8 CPU – 41690 points.
Software of Vivo Y11
The Vivo Y11 operates on Android 9.0 (Pie), quite good for a 2019 model. It is skinned with Vivo's very own Funtouch 9.1, which means that there is really no stock android experience. Consequently, it may take time for others to get used to its user interface and other features. Since it has the Funtouch overlay, it is predictable that there will be no app drawer. Nevertheless, many launchers in Google Playstore can be copied to supplementary customize the mobile experience. Therefore, all the applications installed in the device are positioned on the home screen where they can be steered through swiping. With that, the user can likewise group the applications in folders. Furthermore, the dock can take up a maximum of 5 app icons. The lock screen can be tailored as the defaulting shortcuts at the bottom can now be allocated with other applications. There is also a bunch of lock screen themes. Funtouch experience comes with a lot of gestures and motion features as well. The Smart motion, for example, has features like Smart Wake, which allows the user to write letters on the display while it is turned off. The user is also given the gesture to swipe upward and swiping downwards. Tougher Security, Dual Wi-Fi, Multi-screen, Ultra Dark Mode, SoLoop Video editor, Ultra-Steady Mode is also supported.
Camera of Vivo Y11
Y11 sports a dual-camera set-up with 13-megapixel plus 2-megapixel camera on the rear that has an f/2.2 and f/2.4 aperture lenses. The first sensor has phase-detect autofocus, while the second sensor is a depth sensor. On the front, there is a smaller 8-megapixel sensor with an f/1.8 aperture. Thus, making the device a decent selfie taker, as it is expected to offer good enough pictures; it is also supported by an LED flash, HDR, and panorama. Like Vivo, Y11's camera interface is quite similar to iPhones. It features tons of video and beautification modes, as well as filters. Actually, there is a handful of pre-installed color filters that are also available for you to use. For a more manual photography experience, there is an Ultra Steady Mode, wherein the user can control dynamic shooting with a minimal shake. Predictably, there is no manual focus. Other supplementary modes are HRD mode and Panorama. Both the selfie and the back-camera records video in 1080p at 30 framers per second. Regrettably, neither supports 4K video encoding and decoding, but that's also understandable given the price tag.
Battery of Vivo Y11
The Vivo Y11 has a decent non-removable Li-Po 5,000mAh battery given that it supports only a 6.35-inch display. The battery can be fully charged in 2 hours as it only has a battery charging capacity of up to 10W only. The battery life endurance rating is a whole day in heavy use. If you use the device at a minimum, there is a good chance it will last up to two days.
Network, Connectivity, Other Features and Sensors of Vivo Y11
The Vivo Y11 can support GSM, HSPA, and LTE; this simply says that it can be used on 2G, 3G or even 4G signals. 2G bands are GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900 for SIM 1 and SIM 2; 3G bands are HSDPA 850 / 900 / 2100; lastly, 4G bands are LTE band 1(2100), 3(1800), 5(850), 7(2600), 8(900), 28(700), 38(2600), 40(2300), 41(2500). Network speed is at HSPA 42.2/5.76 Mbps, LTE-A (2CA) Cat6 300/50 Mbps. The device supports hybrid, which means that it can take on two SIM cards. However, doing so would mean sacrificing the expandable storage slot simply because the secondary SIM card shares the same space with the microSD card. Only one SIM card can go to LTE. For WLAN, it has Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n, Wi-Fi Direct, DLNA, and hotspot tethering to share internet with other devices. Bluetooth is at version 4.0. For GPS, there is A-GPS, GLONASS, and BDS. Sadly, the device lacks NFC support; this may never be a device for those who have electronic monetary transactions. And listening to entertaining and informative content, there is an FM radio pre-installed. For 2019, the Y11 still uses the dated micro USB 2.0 port and connector for charging and data transfer. Still, it supports the 3.5mm headphone jack is also present. Vivo Y11 has a fingerprint scanner for security purposes; it is rear-mounted, which means that it can be navigated easily using the thumb. Other sensors such as accelerometer, proximity, and compass are present. Inappropriately, it does not have the gyroscope and the ambient light sensor.
Comparing Vivo Y11 with OPPO A5s
Vivo Y11 and A5s were announced in the same year, but different months. With the former released in October and the latter released earlier in April, that's six months interval. The Vivo Y11 and OPPO A57 can support 2G, 3G, and 4G. Also, both network speeds of the devices are at HSPA 42.2/5.76 Mbps, LTE-A (2CA) Cat6 300/50 Mbps. Considering their dimensions, the Y11 is slightly thicker with 0.7mm and heavier with 20.5 grams, because the Vivo Y11 has a dimension of 159.4 x 76.8 x 8.9 mm (6.28 x 3.02 x 0.35 in) versus A5s' 155.9 x 75.4 x 8.2 mm (6.14 x 2.97 x 0.32 in). Both phones are built with front glass panel and plastic back case and plastic framing. For SIM card support, the former has a hybrid SIM tray only, while the latter has a Dual SIM (Nano-SIM, dual stand-by) option. Talking about the display, the two devices use IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen display with Y11 sporting a larger 6.35-inch screen, while the A5s keeps the smaller 6.2-inch display. While both share the same 720p panel and aspect ratio, it is undeniable that A57 has more pixels per inch since it has a smaller panel. It may be noticeable in paper, but in personal inspection, the differences in pixels may not be that protruding at all. The only remarkable edge of the OPPO A5s device over the Vivo Y11 is the use of a Corning Gorilla Glass 3. Vivo Y11 comes with Android 9.0 (Pie), while OPPO A5s has an older version- Android 8.1 (Oreo). The former has the Funtouch 9.1 overlaying on top of the OS, while the latter has the ColorOS 5.2 skin. Also, the chipset used by the devices came from different manufacturers. Y11 has an octa-core chip from Qualcomm SDM439 Snapdragon 439 with Adreno 505, while the A5s sports an octa-core chip form MediaTek MT6765 Helio P35 with PowerVR GE8320 for GPU.
Both smartphones come with an internal storage of 32GB, but OPPO also offers a bigger 64GB storage variant option. In photography, their main rear cameras have the same 13MP shooter plus 2MP shooter, that goes with the front-facing camera, too. All of their cameras can only shoot videos up to 1080p at 30 frames per second. Y11 has more battery juice than A57 as the latter only offers 4,230mAh. Vivo Y11 is available in two colors: Coral Red and Jade Green, while OPPO A5s is available in four colors: Red, Black, Gold, Green.
Conclusion of Vivo Y11
Surely, there are many smartphones that can compete with Vivo Y11. A good example of that is the OPPO A5s because they have very similar specifications. But, if you want bang for your buck, go with the Xiaomi Redmi 8, which has almost the same price with much better under the hood specs.
