About Honda Dream
Honda Dream, turning dreams into reality since the mid 1900’s
Honda Dream is a series that first appeared in the market back in 1949 with the "Model D", which also happens to be Honda’s first motorcycle release. Consequently, Honda released several other models named C71, C76, C72 and C77 Dream in between the years 1960-1967. Over the next few decades, Honda released various other models with upgraded specifications and different looks with their final release being Dream Yuga. This bike made headlines because of its 109 cc single-cylinder and low cost due to which it was called Honda’s least expensive model. Dream lineup failed to create much impact in the Philippines, mostly because of the fact there are extremely limited offerings.
Features of Honda Dream
Since the Honda Dream lineup includes motorcycles whose release dates back to the 1950’s, it would be appropriate to discuss only the last three generation models that experienced overwhelming popularity in the Philippines.
Honda Super Cub: This motorcycle released in 1986 as a 49 cc model with single cylinder four stroke engine, 3 or 4 speed semi-automatic multi-plate clutch, telescopic front fork suspension and rear swingarm. The inspiration behind creation of this model came when Takeo Fujisawa and Soichiro Honda toured Germany and understood the demand of light weight motorcycles and scooters.
Honda AC15: This is a vintage style single cylinder motor cycle of 50 cc that first came to market in 1997. This model was built as a tribute to the infamous Honda CR110 that released in 1962 and had a rather small fuel tank, short handle bars and overall muscular look.
Honda Dream Yuga: This model was first announced in January 2012 at Delhi Auto Expo in India and went on to sale a couple of months later. This model was followed by the release of an even cheaper model named Honda CD 110 Dream.
Reasons for popularity in the Philippines
The Honda Dream lineup experienced moderate success for the most part in the country primarily because of limited number of models. Even though, there are less number of people who prefer bikes that pose as a retro mode, this series enjoys a niche’ fan following who cannot do without it. Others, in the Philippines mainly prefer the models under this series because of the lower price tag and healthy fuel consumption making them ideal as a daily mode of transport. Whatever the reasons might be, the Dream lineup served its purpose and made Honda an even more popular brand.
