About KYMCO Motorcycle

KYMCO stands for the Kwang Yang Motor Company and it is one of the most popular manufacturers of scooters, bikes and ATVs in the world. The main salient feature of KYMCO is its affordability and its availability, which is ripe in parts of South-East Asia and especially remarkable in Taiwan, where it is based. The company has retained its number one position vis-a-vis market shares for 19 years straight in Taiwan. This can show the extent of its operation and the overall lucrativeness of its endeavors.

The headquarters of KYMCO is based in Kaohsiung, Taiwan whereas different production facilities are located in other parts of Asia such as Indonesia, Malaysia and China. Furthermore, KYMCO USA operates in North Carolina.

This company started out at around the same time as firms like Honda and Kawasaki, and since then, it has evolved into a global and internationally operating company with a major presence in the industry. It has quite an interesting history and the journey it has made to where it is today is indeed eventful and commendable.

History/Origin

The beginning of this company goes back to the early 60's, when the market had freshly received other automobile manufacturers. This point can illustrate the fact that this company flourished in an established oligopoly, a feat that is not so easily achieved. Had this been some sort of entrepreneuristic innovation, then the place it holds today would have been justified.

This company was founded in 1963 but it was quite some time before it started operating under its own brand name.

KYMCO originally was not a separate firm. Instead, it manufactured parts for Honda. After breaking away from the company, KYMCO established its own identity in 1963. It launched its first scooter seven years later in 1970 and began its marketing under its name brand 22 years later in 1992. In the 2000's, KYMCO was the biggest manufacturer of scooters in Taiwan. The company first started working worldwide in 1992 and later in the 2000's it was the fifth largest scooter manufacturing group in the whole world.

There are several milestones in the history of this company. These instances accentuate the progress it made throughout the years and the place it earned in the hearts of the people as well as the recognition it earned in the eyes of rival manufacturers and automobile companies.

The first such noticeable instance occurred in 2008, when BMW selected KYMCO for the provision of engines for the G450 X Enduro bike. Furthermore, this association was highlighted with KYMCO being the supplier of the BMW i3's range extenders.

History/Locally

KYMCO Philippines Inc. is a subsidiary of KYMCO Ltd. and has been operating in an effort to give customers the best scooters, bikes and ATVs. The quality of the products released by KYMCO Philippines is not compromised as it is backed and supported by KYMCO Taiwan in order to maintain standards and to make sure that newer releases are not delayed for Filipinos.

It was founded in 2008 and since then, it has been the provider of quality scooters, bikes and ATVs in the Philippines. Since KYMCO Philippines Inc. is completely owned by KYMCO Ltd., the recognition and popularity of the brand is not in any way tainted or diminished due to the operations of KYMCO Ph. Inc.

Furthermore, there are several factors and reasons that have been kept in mind while planning the market penetration.

One of the most favorable factors in the Philippines for the growth and eventual penetration of the company was the market growth seen for the motorcycle market. The Philippines is a third-world country, much like its neighboring Asian nations. Hence, motorcycles are used quite frequently and popularly. Such places give companies like KYMCO a great opportunity to spread and strengthen their operations.

The provided vehicles have a greater popularity in these countries as scooters and motorcycles are an essential need of the people. While in first world countries, these vehicles may be bought for the fun of it and in some cases, for genuine need, the fact remains that the provision of affordable, decent scooters and motorcycles is very popular in countries where people possess a lesser buying power.

Famous Models

The models created by KYMCO are versatile and efficient. The scooters are excellent in their own regard while the ATVs also excel in their efficiency and performance. When it comes to listing the famous and popular scooter models created by KYMCO, one can start with the Agility 50.

The Agility 50 2020 is a great option for people looking for inexpensive and decent scooters. With the affordability of its price, the fuel efficiency and the overall friendly design, this scooter is one of the iconic and popular models released by KYMCO and can fit the needs of most. People who are in the market looking for a comfortable, affordable and efficient ride should familiarize themselves with the KYMCO agility. According to EPA data, the Agility 50 goes for 102 miles per gallon. This sort of fuel efficiency is hard to find and KYMCO hands it to you on a silver platter. Furthermore, the under-seat storage, the footrests and the overall consumer-friendly construction of the scooter makes it a versatile vehicle.

Additionally, the Like 50i 2020 is also a model of the more popular lines of KYMCO scooters. It has a more complex design and provides more features than the Agility but it does come with a raised price.

Furthermore, according to KYMCO, it is the most cost-effective option due to its average fuel consumption. It has the fuel consumption rate of 111 miles per gallon, which is ridiculously idealistic for the low-budget clientele for which it is made.

The Like 50i further accentuates its versatility with its under-seat storage, which can be handy for putting things in on longer rides. It comes with a latch able glove compartment which further adds to the storing capability of this scooter. The 12 inch wheels and the low-set gas tank, apart from giving the scooter an aesthetic edge, also add to the stability to the vehicle.

Another model from a different line of KYMCO scooters is the KYMCO Super 8 150X. Comparing it to the Agility and the Like models discussed prior, it does not have the same fuel-efficient performance. With 66 miles to the gallon, this scooter is more designed as a durable and hefty vehicle.

When it comes to the bikes released by KYMCO, there are two main series advertised by KYMCO USA. The two series are K-Pipe and Spade.

The K-Pipe 125 is a notable motorcycle in the series. With good fuel efficiency and a decent design, it provides an option for potential buyers that they can consider when looking for affordable motorcycles. The manufacturer suggested retail price falls around $2,249. The concept behind the K-Pipe 125 was a hybridization of off-road magnificence and superior street performance. It physically establishes a semblance to dirt bikes and also attains a good performance in the streets which make it a good option for urban usage. It has a fuel efficiency of 98 miles per gallon and a semi-automatic transmission. Both these features make it a great bike for starters. The 17 inch wheels give the bike a steady performance and good handling which further add to its efficiency as a street vehicle.

The Spade series brings with it the model Spade 150i. This motorcycle is different and distinguished from the usual vehicles in terms of different factors, namely its appearance.

The design of this motorcycle is made to appeal to the old-school loving clientele. The model is made retro-style; which basically entails an ascending seat, gas tank ending with the handlebars. The sloped look of this motorcycle gives it an aesthetic, old-fashioned guise which is further accentuated by its compact size. The fuel efficiency of this motorcycle is a good 94 miles to the gallon. The low height and the customizable dual shocks make it a good option for action loving buyers as well. The 12 inch wheels complete the dirt-bike look that this motorcycle gives off.

With a small storage in the back fender of the bike, one can also appreciate the efforts made by KYMCO to give the riders comfort and utility along with decent performance.

These are the models of motorcycles released by KYMCO. One can gauge from their fuel-efficiency, low price and their aesthetic appearance that these vehicles are a considerable option for those looking to make a worthwhile purchase. Fortunately, the variety of vehicles offered by KYMCO doesn't end here. KYMCO also offers, along with the scooters and the motorcycles, ATVs for its customers.

When it comes to different series, the largest variety can be found in the ATVs by KYMCO. The series consist of the Mongoose series, Maxxer series and the MXU series.

Furthermore, KYMCO USA also provides Side by Sides in their already diverse range of vehicles. There are two series of the Side X Sides. These are the UXV 450i and the 700i series which further contain several different models.

Performance

KYMCO has won a variety of different awards and has gained recognition due to its worldwide operations. KYMCO has dominated the market in several countries and this can be seen from the fact that while KYMCO has retained the most market shares in Taiwan for 19 years, it has also been the number one seller of scooters in Spain for 2015 and the number one seller of ATVs in France and Germany as well in the same year.

These statistics show the penetration of KYMCO in the market for different countries and with these figures in mind, we can also anticipate the performance the company will show in the Philippines.

The performance of the KYMCO vehicles can be adequately judged by the specifications and capabilities of their scooters, motorcycles and ATVs. When it comes to the scooters, it could be seen that the first remarkable aspect of their performance was their fuel efficiency. With 111 miles per gallon and similar ranges, most of the scooters that were discussed could be seen to have a good fuel economy. This fuel efficiency accentuates the performance and overall quality of these scooters as due to the low fuel consumption, the low-budget buyers can be targeted. Similarly with good under-seat storage, the utility of these vehicles can also be seen. While there are some differences in the different series of scooters by KYMCO, some of the distinguished features like their fuel efficiency and utility set them apart.

When it comes to the motorcycles, the price and the fuel consumption are both aspects worthy of comment. The price on the K-Pipe 125, for example, is a mere $2,249 (MSRP). Furthermore, the fuel consumption on the motorcycles is also not that far from the scooters. The two series discussed prior have an average of around 90 miles to the gallon.

Furthermore, one would think that all these aspects would mean compromising on the aesthetics but it is not so. Apart from providing good performance and utility with their vehicles, KYMCO also gives a good appearance and maintains the aesthetic side of their rides to give their buyers the full package.

Other info

During the last 10 years, the motorcycle market in the Philippines grew considerably. This was one of the favorable conditions that was analyzed and considered by KYMCO to be incorporated in their plan of action when operating in the Philippines.

Furthermore, it was decided that the standards offered by KYMCO to the worldwide market would also be provided in the Philippines in order to standardize their quality and to create a lasting and healthy relationship with the consumers. The strategy to solidify their presence and operations in the Philippines further included improving their after-sales services. In most service and product businesses, the after-sales services are a favorable factor as long as they include the availability of accessories and spare parts. In industries such as the motorcycle and scooter industry, the availability of spare parts is a huge plus while the deprivation is detrimental to the company.
