Ducati - Race grade Italian Motorcycles in Philippines
Ducati Motor Holding SpA or more commonly known as Ducati is a leading motorcycle manufacturing company based in Italy. It was first established in 1926 as a subsidiary motorcycle division of leading German automobile manufacturing giant Audi through its luxury division Lamborghini. It has its headquarters in Bologna in Italy.
Ducati was first founded by Antonio Cavalieri Ducati along with his sons - Adriano, Bruno & Marcello. They initially established a firm called "Societa Scientifica Radio Brevetti Ducati" which specialized in producing radio components, vacuum tubes and condensers. Ducati later collaborated with a small Turinese firm called "Societa Italiana per Applicazioni Techniche Auto Aviatorie" or SIATA which had manufactured a push rod engine called "Cucciolo" in 1944. In 1950, Ducati finally revealed its first Cucciolo based motorcycle prototype that had a max speed of 40mph & weighed around 48lbs.
The company was split into Ducati Meccanica & Ducati Electtronica following a government initiative to place it under "Istituto per La Ricostruzione Industriale" or IRI from 1953-1967. It was later acquired by VM Group in 1978 and then by Cagvia Group in 1985. Texas Pacific Group - a private investment firm based in United States of America later acquired 51% of its shares in 1996 for a sum of $352 million. It later bought most of the remaining shares by 1998 and the company was as renamed Ducati Motor Holding SpA in 1999. Texas Pacific Group later sold about 65% of its stake in Ducati but remained as the single largest shareholder in the company.
Acquisition by Audi
