Two new Nokia phones receive certification ahead of MWC 2018
Amidst the buzz that HMD Global will take the wrap off a bunch of Nokia phones at MWC 2018, two new phones with model numbers TA-1043 and TA-1046 have been certified in Russia signaling that the duos are on the horizon. The names for these models remain unspecified, but one of them could be the Nokia 7 Plus, a global variant of the Nokia 7 hitherto exclusively China.
As the MWC 2018 approaches many smartphone manufacturers have been gearing up for the event to showcase their offerings. HMD Global is also likely to unveil a series of smartphones intended for 2018. Amongst the lot, the Nokia 8 Sirocco and the Nokia 6 (2018) have been dominating the rumor mill, but now two new Nokia phones have also entered the fray. Reportedly, two new Nokia phones with the model numbers TA-1043 and TA-1046 have been certified in Russia. However, till now the names of the devices haven't been ascertained. The certification also remains mum on the details of these phones.
To note, another Nokia phone with model number TA-1047 thought to be a QWERTY phone had also been subjected to various certifications last month. Of late, there were also rumors about the entry-level Nokia 1 which will be based on the Android GO program. We already know thanks to the FCC certification that the Nokia 1 bears the model number TA-1005. Another smartphone which has been the talking point of the grapevine is the alleged Nokia 8 Sirocco but the same was trademarked earlier this month bearing the model number, TA- 1055. So, it becomes perplexing as to what monikers the two new model numbers certified in Russia will be ascribed to.
Most likely one of the two model numbers is likely to be named, the Nokia 7 Plus, a global variant of the Nokia 7 which was so far a China-exclusive. Piecing together various rumors, the Nokia 7 Plus is likely to sport a 6-inch display with 18:9 aspect ratio, Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 SoC coupled with 4GB RAM and 64GB internal storage. The smartphone is expected to mount a 12MP+13MP rear camera setup with 2x optical zoom and the front will have a 16MP camera. The camera unit will be of Carl ZEISS branding. On the software side of things, the Nokia 7 Plus will run Android 8.0 Oreo.
Nevertheless, instead of the Nokia 9, the Nokia 8 Sirocco will be the first flagship smartphone from HMD for this year. The Nokia 8 Sirocco will feature a Snapdragon 845 SoC aided by 6GB RAM and 128GB default storage for power. Other offerings which might form the smartphones bouquet for HMD Global at MWC 2018 are the Nokia 4 and a 4G variant of the Nokia 3310 Classic feature phone.
