Initially, OnePlus used to offer flagship killer phones at affordable prices. But with time its phones have become expensive, making it difficult for average customers to purchase them. That is, however, set to change as OnePlus confirms that an affordable smartphone is on its way. The new smartphone is said to give a premium experience with accessible pricing.
Earlier a plethora of leaks and rumors were swirling around the internet suggesting an impending OnePlus smartphone which could be affordable.
Now OnePlus itself has taken the plunge in revealing information regarding the alleged phone via various social media channels. The latest to crop up is a private Instagram account named @OnePlusLiteZThing, which was mentioned by, none other than, Carl Pei, the co-founder of OnePlus.
OnePlus' Twitter account is already abuzz with the "new beginnings" slogan, which is suggestive of a separate lineup for mid-range phones- something that CEO Pete Lau has also said in his forum post.
According to Lau, the new phone will allow users the same "premium, flagship experience" delivered as part of a "new, more affordable smartphone product line." Lau also added that initially, the project would be small, and the phone will first see the daylight in India and Europe.
About the name of the upcoming phone, rumors are not unanimous. At first, the smartphone was rumored with the OnePlus 8 Lite moniker before the OnePlus Z name cropped up. The new name now doing the round is the OnePlus Nord, which somewhat sounds quirky.
But chances are the Nord will be the actual name of the upcoming phone as a marketing image of it has already been spotted courtesy of WinFuture. The Cyan Blue color background of the Nord logo also corresponds with the Cyan Blue color OnePlus logo tweeted by Pete earlier this week.
Whatever the name will be, the new OnePlus phone will likely be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G SoC with 5G connectivity. It will have multiple rear cameras and support for 30W Warp Charge.
The smartphone is expected to launch in July with an alleged price tag of INR 25,000 (around PHP 16,500).
