Energizer Jumps Into the Foldable Smartphone Game Too, Now with a 10,000mAh Battery

Energizer has recently unveiled their smartphone with an 18,000mAh battery pack. Not stopping there, the battery maker decided to jump into the folding smartphone game as well.

The folding smartphone phenomena started with Samsung and their Galaxy Fold smartphone, the rest of the field followed by OPPO, Xiaomi and HUAWEI releasing their own version of a folding smartphone. The battery maker Energizer has decided to follow the lead and come out with their own foldable smartphone.

Initially grabbing attention with the 18,000mAh battery pack-wielding PowerMax P18K Pop smartphone, Energizer also announced during the just-concluded Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona that they are coming out with the Power Max P8100S, their own take on the folding smartphone that features two main displays.

The outside display in folded mode is a 6-inch display panel with FHD+ resolution. In unfolded mode, this smartphone turns into a tablet with an 8.1-inch display, also with an FHD+ resolution. Based on the initial images, the Power Max P8100S unfolded display works like the Galaxy Fold where it has a foldable display panel, unlike the HUAWEI Mate X which makes use of two smaller display panels that transform into a bigger display panel.

Unfortunately, Energizer did not have a working prototype available for a hands-on experience at MWC since they said that display panel suppliers gave higher priority to bigger smartphone makers like Samsung and HUAWEI.

Some observers at the event said that the hinge of the Power Max P8100S is not really appealing as it looks cheap and flimsy. Based on the build materials, it looks like Energizer was going for a cost-effective manufacturing process which hopefully translates to the phone's final price tag if it does come out. It's too early to say if this will be the final appearance since it could still be subject to change.

Despite of its appearance, the Power Max P8100S packs impressive flagship-level specifications, particularly its chipset: Qualcomm's Snapdragon 855, which features an octa-core 2.84GHz processor and is kitted with 8GB RAM and 256GB ROM, which is expandable via microSD card.

What makes the Power Max P8100S stand out from the rest of the crowd is its massive battery size, which is 10,000mAh. Since this smartphone will have a 5G network connectivity, the battery is sure to provide enough power to last for a day or two at moderate to high usage.

Priced at EUR 850 (around PHP 50,000), this smartphone is not cheap, but given its impressive specs, large battery and the difference in price tag against its competition, it could very well present an excellent value for your money once it comes out.
