About Motorola DROID

Motorola Mobile Phones, The First Ever

Motorola is well known for having made the first-ever mobile phones. Growing up, we all experienced flip phones and having to slam it shut to reject phone calls. Motorola also made mobile phones of all design languages - from bulky phones to slim mp3 phones, or even smartphones with rotating keyboards, Motorola has done it all. Nowadays, Motorola isn't as relevant as it used to be, especially when compared to big companies like Apple and Samsung, nonetheless, the company has been present since the beginning of mobile tech, and to this day is still making devices we all enjoy using more than 40 years later.

Before Motorola Made the First Mobile Phone

Paul Galvin together with his brother Joe Galvin established Galvin Manufacturing Corporation in 1928. The company focused on making inexpensive car radios, and in 1930, they were able to produce a working model and named it Motorola - derived from the words "motorcar" and "victrola". That was followed by police radios and home radios - with Motorola being the brand name. Towards the end of the decade, they produced the Walkie-Talkie which was used in WWII. Continuing, they branched out to working on televisions in 1945, and the company showcased its first-ever TV in 1947 - the Golden View. The company sold over 100,000 sets of these TVs within a year of launch and became the number four Television manufacturer in the US. That same year, the company was officially renamed Motorola. The 1950s was a good decade for Motorola, for they were able to create stereo phonographs and various radio devices. In addition, the company became NASA's first suppliers of space communication equipment. Neil Armstrong even used a Motorola radio to transmit his famous words from the moon - "one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind." The company continued to expand internationally in the 1960s, and in the 1970s, Motorola shifted its focus from making radio technology into developing high-tech electronic components instead. The year that changed communication technology forever was 1973 when Motorola made a prototype of the world's first portable cellular telephone using the DynaTAC (Dynamic Adaptive Total Area Coverage) system. A decade later, the DynaTAC 8000X phone was released, the first-ever commercially available mobile phone in history. This was a big step for communications technology, and Motorola paved the way.

Famous Series

Motorola made the very first mobile phone with the DynaTAC, the very first flip phone with the MicroTAC, and the first clam phone with the StarTAC in the 1990s. But Motorola's most famous series ever came more than 20 years later, with the release of the Moto G series. Motorola was dominating with its iconic Razr flip phone, but when smartphones emerged in 2007 and 2008, Motorola was left behind. This led to net losses, and ultimately Motorola had to sell part of its business to Google in 2012, and in 2013, the Moto G was released. The Moto G was simple, straightforward, and basic. It didn't have any of the flashy design aesthetics that Motorola was famous for and instead stuck with a clean and minimal design. It had a 720p display and ran a near-stock Android 4.3 that was fast and smooth. The biggest con to this phone was the camera, but considering the price that it had which was only $179, it was the perfect budget phone. The Moto G enabled Motorola to stay afloat in the market and the sales were up 118% the following year.

Motorola cannot be mentioned without bringing up its infallible flip phone series, the Motorola RAZR. This series of devices spanned over 15 years of the mobile phone industry, starting in 2005. As the iconic flip-open device, many iterations of the RAZR have been cemented in pop culture thanks to wide seen usage in movies and ads featuring many famous celebrities. To this day the allure of the RAZR name is still extremely strong, with the announcement of yet another iteration in the works for the year 2020, the mobile tech community is alight with excitement to see the latest that this family of handsets has to offer.

Motorola Mobile Phones Finest Features

Throughout the decades, Motorola mobile phones have catered to all markets. They made the very first mobile phones that cost $3,995 in the 80s, and in the modern era now makes the most affordable handsets with one model being only $99. They cater to all kinds of people and no matter what the budget, as long as it's reasonable, they have a perfect phone for it. One feature that Motorola was known for was its futuristic and premium design. The original Razr phone had a design that was ahead of its time, being built with metal and silver in color. It also had sharp edges and a logo that blends with the design. Now, they also remade the Razr phone into one of the most expensive premium smartphones available. They also released the Edge and Edge+, which directly competes with the Samsung Galaxy line in terms of design and features. Their ability to adapt to the trends keeps them afloat in a very dense market, but another good thing about Motorola is that they make good phones cheap, and cheap phones good. With the G series, they paved the way for other companies to make affordable phones with complete features. Until today, their G series is one of the best options for people on a tight budget. All in all, Motorola is an iconic company, and with their upcoming release of the Razr 2020, they're not going away any time soon.
