About ASUS Mobile Phones
ASUS, the New Kid on the Smartphone Block
The realm of technology and smart devices is as wide and diverse as the global market that it caters to. In such a massive industry there exists a large opportunity for continuous technological advancement, this opportunity has been seized by many companies both large and small, but few of these brands can claim beginnings as humble as those of ASUS. Once a simple idea hatched in a Taipei coffee shop in 1989, the company has grown to not only survive but thrive in the modern tech industry. From motherboards to laptops, and very recently, smartphones, the well-experienced I.T. pedigree of this Taiwan-based maker has translated well into the mobile handset market.
History
This company's first foray into the device industry began in 1989 with the release of two ground-breaking motherboards dubbed the Cache 386/33 and the ISA 486/25, these two personal computer boards were cobbled together by the founding engineers of ASUS and were so high-quality, they went on to be used in products created by IBM and ALR two extremely notable computer companies at the time. With a foot in the door, the company went on to produce more and more splendid motherboards quickly gaining fame as a truly gifted computer hardware creator and in the process, making Taiwan an international hotspot for high-quality tech.
In 1997 ASUS released its first laptop known as the ASUS P6300, this growth would continue into the 2000s during which the company would branch out to China, The Netherlands, the U.S., and even the Czech Republic. Finally, in 2003, the brand would have its first taste of the mobile industry with the release of the J100, a small 3G capable flip phone. Though it was not too well received, this would mark the beginning of ASUS's journey towards modern smartphones. While continuing to dominate the computer industry, ASUS also released more mobile phones ranging from clamshells to sliders, and eventually touchscreen phones more akin to the smart handsets of today. Then in 2014, the company debuted its modern smartphone series, known as the Zenfone, the earliest models were the Zenfone 6, Zenfone 5, and Zenfone 4. These smart devices would later grow and evolve into the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th generation of ASUS Zenfones; to further cement its status as a technological force to be reckoned with, ASUS released the ROG phone in 2018, this premium piece of kit was one of the first gaming-oriented smartphones to be released in the modern market. ASUS has a very narrow path to tread in terms of handset development, however, the company's extensive background in all things, tech is sure to yield exemplary results.
Famous Series and Models
Despite being a company that produces some of the tech industry's leading personal computers and motherboards, ASUS's smartphone line up is nowhere near as diverse as those of mobile handset giants such as HUAWEI and Samsung. Unlike the Korea-based maker, which quite literally has phone series as numerous as the letters in the alphabet, ASUS has only two models of smartphones which consist of the Zenfone and ROG phone. With only 2 series of phones, ASUS can easily pool its efforts in an attempt to produce two excellent handsets as opposed to numerous mediocre models. In line with this strategy, it is evident that ASUS has invested copious amounts of time and resources into both its ROG phone and Zenfone lineup. After many iterations over the years, it is evident that the Zenfone series is not meant to dominate the elite flagship-level market, instead, this family of phones focuses on providing unmatched value for money at a price that is far friendlier than that of other flagship and mid-level phones.
Among the Zenfone line, the Zenfone 6 is the latest installment and is without a doubt one of the best budget-flagship devices available, all thanks to a unique pop-up dual-selfie camera and some serious processing power. Alongside the Zenfone line is ASUS's ROG phone, with only two iterations this line is relatively new, but as one of the first gaming-oriented smartphones in the market, it is sure to stick around for years and years to come. The newest member of this family is the ROG phone II, and as it stands, this is currently one of the fastest performing handsets in the market today, no doubt due to its revolutionary Snapdragon 855+ SoC and gaming-oriented design. To some brands a lack of diversity may seem like a deathly mistake in an industry as wide as the mobile phone market, however, this lack of diversity means the Taiwan-based manufacturer will have more time to focus on churning out quality pieces of kit with fewer hiccups and more true value.
Features
A close look at the products from this maker will reveal the obvious fact that the Zenfone and ROG phone are specialized series, as such, these phones may not be for everyone however the Zenfone's more general approach towards gaming allows it to be marketed less as a gaming-handset and more as a budget-friendly flagship device. If there is anything to be learned from industry trends its that there will always be a consumer desire for devices that offer flagship capabilities for less than flagship prices. As it stands, a key feature of ASUS's smartphones is the ability to offer substantial value for money and in many cases provide an experience that is if not similar, at least comparable to that of upper-level smartphones; any user in search of a device that offers these capabilities is sure to be thrilled by the Zenfone line. With a sub-brand directly geared towards gaming, it would be an understatement to say that the ROG phone is a capable gaming device. Mobile gamers who wish to maximize their gaming experience are sure to benefit from the use of this cutting-edge handset, as one of the highest-performing devices of 2020 the ROG phone series is practically a handheld console.
For a phone made by gamers for gamers, ASUS's ROG series is the way to go. In simplest terms, this brand excels in two niches of the market: Budget-friendly handsets with high value for money, and high-quality gaming phones with unmatched performance. Regardless of whichever brand consumers may choose, mobile-gamers and everyday smartphone users alike are sure to be thrilled by the products of ASUS and its sub-brand ROG.
