Best Laptops with 8GB RAM in the Philippines 2020

Shopping for laptops that can support demanding computing needs? Here's a list of laptops equipped with 8GB RAM in the Philippines.

Mobility is part of the new normal these days, and devices such as smartphones and laptops have become an essential part of life for most people, young and old alike. Whether for school purposes, work purposes or simply personal needs, the laptop has become almost a required tool.

If your intention is to use a laptop for productivity purposes and moderate content streaming, a 4GB RAM laptop should be sufficient. However, if you're one of those people with high computing requirements, such as heavy content streaming, online gaming, graphics design, content management systems or even programming, and you need your PC to accomplish all these demanding tasks well then a minimum of 8GB RAM is recommended.

Laptop RAM Size and Performance

For the uninitiated, or those who are just beginning to search for a laptop, we'll explain a bit about RAM size and how it affects PC performance.

Random Access Memory, RAM in short, refers to your PC's system memory – the part of the computer that temporarily contains files, apps and software that are currently in use. The processor is able to access data much faster from the system's memory than it can from the data stored on the hard disk drive (HDD), solid- state drive (SSD) or other forms of storage devices. Think of it this way, a person who has memorized details of a file can immediately write or repeat those details, but it would take longer to rummage through a notebook, drawer or PC to search for the information. However, data stored in the RAM are temporary and they are deleted when the app is closed or the PC is shut down. This is to ensure the system memory doesn't get congested with info that will affect its loading speed and performance. Files kept on HDDs and SDDs on the other hand are permanently stored there until you decide to delete them.

RAM size affects the amount of data that can be stored in the system memory. The data loads in the RAM and temporarily stays there until you close the app, the file or the software. So when you're running an MS Word application, that's one data in the RAM. You open a browser to check a website – that's another data that gets temporarily stored in the RAM. You open a social media site to say hello to your friends – that's the third app in the RAM. Now you have three sets of data in the system memory. The smaller the RAM size, the fewer apps you can run, because the data size may be too much and you'll find your computer lagging or being slow to respond. Worst, if you are multitasking, it may crash and you can lose unsaved data. The larger the RAM size, the more programs or apps you can run at the same time without losing performance.

The 8GB RAM

The 8GB RAM is kind of the sweet spot in terms of RAM size and it is recommended for PC or laptop users who utilize their laptops for more than moderate browsing and for using Microsoft Office applications. While there are 16GB and 32GB RAM, laptops equipped with these higher RAM sizes are also usually more expensive. An 8GB system memory is sufficient for enjoying uninterrupted eSports, which a 4GB or 6GB RAM might struggle to support. An 8GB RAM can also support multi-browsing including video streaming and social media use at the same time on top of other applications such as MS Word, Excel, PPT, e-mails and the like.

8GB RAM Recommended Laptops in the Philippines

Now, here's a list of 8GB RAM-sized laptops available in the Philippines. Note that RAM size is just one criterion that you need to consider when choosing your hardware. There are other factors and qualities that you need to consider so as to get the proper laptop for your computing requirements.

1. ASUS ZenBook 14 UX434FL

The ASUS ZenBook 14 UX434FL succeeds the former UX433 series but has retained most of its predecessor's features such as its compact, slim and lightweight feature as well as its design and keyboard features. What's new is the availability of a touchscreen display option and a glass-covered ScreenPad resistant to fingerprints and smudges and equipped with precision touchpad (PTP) technology for up to four-finger smart gestures. And of course, upgraded hardware is included.

This 14-inch ultraportable laptop from ASUS, which arrived early this year, packs an impressive set of internals, with an Intel Comet Lake Core U chipset, which is a Core i7 quad-core processor with turbo boost that can clock up to 4.6GHz and with an 8MB cache. Its graphics processor is an NVIDIA GeForce MX250 with 2GB GDDR5 VRAM features. While the chipset is powerful enough, reports have it that this laptop lacks what's needed for a full gaming experience so this model shouldn't be used if the purpose if primarily gaming. The system memory is 8GB, but there's a higher 16GB variant being offered with 2,133MHz LPDDR3 onboard. Internal storage capacity is 512GB PCIe x2 SSD.

For other kinds of usage, the ASUS ZenBook 14 UX434FL is a perfect daily companion. The non-touchscreen variant comes with a 14-inch FHD 1920p x 1080p LED-backlit, slim-bezel NanoEdge display panel, with a 92% screen-to-body ratio. The laptop features a 178-degrees wide-view technology for a better viewing experience.

One of the highlights of this ASUS ZenBook is its effective thermal system. Fresh air is drawn from the bottom and blown out through grills behind the laptop's hinges. During the most demanding workload, the laptop only reaches up to 45- to 50-degrees Celsius with very little possibility of overheating.

The 50Wh 3-cell lithium-polymer battery, according to ASUS, lasts up to 12.3 hours. ASUS has added an ASUS Battery Health Charging app to ensure the laptop is properly juiced up for the users' needs.

Other features worth noting are a Windows 10 OS; a 3D IR HD camera, just perfect for videoconferencing or video chatting; a SonicMaster stereo audio system for maximum audio performance; and a Cortana voice-recognition supported microphone array. Connectivity features include a dual-band gigabit-class Wi-Fi 5 and Bluetooth 5.0 as well as a 3.5mm headphone jack.

You can avail yourself of the 8GB RAM ASUS ZenBook 14 UX434FL for PHP 66,995.

2. ASUS ZenBook 13 UX334FL

This 13-inch ASUS ZenBook 13 UX334FL is a smaller version of the ZenBook for those who seek more mobility. It has the same styling as its bigger brother and with equally powerful specs as well. There are two processor variants available – one is the 10th-generation Intel Core i7 chipset similar to the 14-inch ZenBook, while the other is a decent Intel Core i5 SoC quad-core with Turbo Boost that clocks up to 3.9GHz and has a 6MB cache. Two GPUs are available: the NVIDIA GeForce MX250 with 2GB GDDR5 VRAM capability for the higher-specs variant, the other is an Integrated Intel UHD Graphics 620. Two memory and storage options are available, an 8GB RAM and 512GB combo and 16GB and 1TB PCIe for the higher-specs trim.

The display screen is a 13.3-inch LED-backlit Full HD slim-bezel NanoEdge display with a four-sided frameless NanoEdge design. Its screen-to-body ratio is 95%. Viewing angles wouldn't be much of a problem with its 178 wide-view technology.

The ScreenPad also serves as a fancy second display as it has a Super IPS display feature or a launcher of apps, programs or shortcuts similar to Apple MacBook Pro 13's Touch Pad.

This small ultraportable unit is also equipped with the ErgoLift hinge system same as the other ZenBooks which allows propping the laptop at a slight angle when opened for more ergonomic typing and better or cooling speaker reverberation. According to ASUS, the 13-inch ASUS ZenBook UX334FL has been tested against shock, vibration and even extreme temperature and it responded quite well with little to no flex.

Its 50Wh battery lasts up to 14 hours with non-heavy content use. ASUS's Battery Health Charging software also helps protect the battery by allowing the user to set the battery's maximum power or Relative State of Charge (RSOC) to extend the power cell's lifespan. Some reports though claim that the laptop's ScreenPad can drain battery life faster.

The laptop comes with all the standard features such as USB 3.1 Gen 2 Type-C and Type-A USB ports, USB 2.0, HDMI and microSD card reader. It supports Bluetooth 5 and Wi-Fi 5 connectivity.

Other features are a 3D IR HD camera, an ASUS SonicMaster stereo audio system, Cortana voice-recognition supported microphone and a 3.5mm headphone jack.

The ASUS ZenBook 13 with 8GB RAM Intel Core i5 configuration is priced at PHP 61,995 while the one with 8GB RAM Intel Core i7 configuration has a price tag of PHP 66,995.

3. ASUS ZenBook Flip 13 UX362FA

Pricier than its other ASUS ZenBook laptops with an SRP of PHP 74,995, the ASUS ZenBook Flip 13 UX362FA differentiates itself from its siblings by its "flip" capability. At 13 inches, this fun, exciting device can perform a dual function as a laptop and as a tablet. This convertible, two-in-one laptop boasts a 360-degree hinge mechanism, a touchscreen display and a stylus called the ASUS Pen.

The 13.3-inch display on the ASUS ZenBook Flip comes with an LED-backlit FHD 1920p x 1080p touchscreen with a non-glare feature. Perfect especially when used in tablet mode and even when you are outdoors. It has thin bezels with a 90% screen-to-body ratio. Like its other ASUS ZenBook family members, its display panel is also equipped with 178° wide-view technology.

It is powered by the same processors in the 14-inch and 13-inch ASUS ZenBook ultraportable laptops. The top-range version features an Intel Core i7 (Whiskey Lake) 1.8GHz quad-core CPU with Turbo Boost, which when enabled, can clock speeds up to 4.0GHz. The lower variant gets powered by a decent Core i5 1.6GHz quad-core processor, also with Turbo Boost for a speed of 3.4GHz. The GPU for both configurations is an Integrated Intel UHD Graphics 620.

The standard system memory is 8GB RAM but there's a higher 16GB configuration with 2133MHz LPDDR3 onboard. There are four internal storage capacities being offered: a choice of 512GB or 256GB PCIe SSD or a choice between 512GB and 256GB SATA3 SSD.

The two-in-one ASUS ZenBook Flip features Windows 10 as its standard OS.

There's also a choice between two interface formats. One comes with what ASUS refers to as a "world-facing" camera and the other is without one. The device with the camera has two USB 3.1 Gen 1 Type-C ports, a DC-in and an audio jack. Lose the camera and an additional Type-A USB and an HDMI port are added to the device.

The convertible ASUS ZenBook Flip does not sport the ScreenPad; rather it has a glass-covered touchpad and number pad that has an intelligent palm-rejection feature and precision touchpad technology that is found in the ASUS ZenBook ultraportable laptops.

The convertible ASUS device shares the same audio system, microphone array and wireless connectivity features with its ASUS ZenBook siblings, but its HD IR web camera doesn't support 3D.

It has a 50Wh 3-cell lithium-polymer battery with a 65W power adapter. Given its form factor, however, battery life may be easily drained with heavy use.

4. Lenovo Ideapad C340 (14 inch and 15.6 inch)

Lenovo has made a name for itself in the PC manufacturing business and has been leading in this area for some time now. It is known to produce numerous portable laptops, including the widely popular Lenovo Yoga lineup and yes, the Ideapad range of devices, which includes the impressive Lenovo Ideapad C340. It is a two-in-one laptop with a 360-degree hinge that enables full folding allowing it to shift to tablet mode. There are two laptop size variants for this convertible laptop: 14 inch and 15.6 inch.

Both 14-inch and 15-inch laptops feature similar highlights. The Ideapad C340's battery life is said to last all day long and it belongs to the convertible laptop form factor. There are no fancy names or labels such as "flip" or "foldable", but this laptop can be used not only as a laptop, but as a tablet and more. It's a little bulky in tablet mode for the 15.6 inch variant though. An added feature is the optional use of a stylus when in tablet mode.

The Lenovo Ideapad C340 14-inch and 15-inch convertible laptops come with a Full HD IPS with 1920p x 1080p resolution and maximum brightness of 250nits. While this provides for a good viewing experience in the 14-inch convertible, such resolution is not adequate for the bigger screen size.

The top-ranging processor configuration of the two-in-one Ideapad C340 is the 10th-Gen Intel Core i7 CPU, but there are options with 8th-Gen processors, which are still powerful chipsets and complemented by high-configuration NVIDIA GeForce MX230 and a lower Intel HD Graphics 610. The 14-inch have options for the AMD Ryzen 3 to Ryzen 5 processors paired with AMD Radeon Vega RX GPUs. These wide range of configuration options allow the users to choose the best model that fit their requirements be it performance, budget, mobility or functionality among others.

The highest system memory configuration for the 14-inch laptop is the 16GB RAM, but there are 8GB and 4GB RAMs available. The largest internal storage capacity is the 512GB PCIe SSD.

The 15-inch meanwhile has only an 8GB RAM configuration, which is a split 4GB + 4GB. But, it offers huge internal storage space of up to 128GB M.2 PCIe NVMe SSD + 1 TB 5400rpm HDD.

Battery life is impressive with an up to 8 hour charge without being plugged in. And when the laptop finally runs out of juice, a 65W Rapid Charge adapter, which is said to reach 80% charge in only 60 minutes, will come to the rescue.

The Lenovo Ideapad C340 supports wireless connectivity such as 802.11 2x2 AC Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.2. It comes with the usual ports such as USB Type-C, USB Type-A, HDMI, SD card reader and an audio jack. One nifty feature is the webcam shutter which allows privacy and security.

Prices vary for the 8GB RAM configuration models for the 14-inch Lenovo Ideapad C340 depending on the processor option. The version with an AMD processor and AMD Radeon Vega 8 graphics card can be purchased at PHP 39,995.

The 15-inch with Intel Core i7-1065G7, 8GB RAM and 512GB storage sells for PHP 59,995.

6. Lenovo Ideapad L340 Gaming (15.6-Inch)

A gaming device – this is what this Lenovo Ideapad laptop is all about. But it doesn't mean it can't be used for non-gaming purposes; in fact, this 15.6-inch laptop can tackle pretty much any work or heavy content thrown its way.

In terms of aesthetics, this entry-level gaming laptop looks very much like a normal laptop, but with an ambient blue-backlighting keyboard which is refreshing to look at. The touchpad placement is more to the left than the center which is ideal for gamers. Narrow bezels surround the FHD 1920 x 1080 IPS display, which has antiglare features, 250nits of maximum brightness and a color gamut of 45%. At the center of the top bezel sits a 720p webcam that can be enabled or disabled by means of a physical shutter switch.

The standard model of the Lenovo Ideapad L340 Gaming is powered by an Intel Core i5-9300H central processor and an NVIDIA GTX 1650 4GB graphics card. System memory is 8GB of RAM, which is quite good for multi-tasking, browsing, streaming, file transfers and executing other tasks. The top-range configuration, however, boasts the 9th-Gen Intel Core i7-9705H CPU and an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 card. System memory capabilities vary depending on the configuration. Internal storage is a huge 1TB SATA HDD. The other storage configuration is a 2TB HDD and an optional 16GB Intel Optane is offered for faster start-up and launching of gaming apps.

For a gaming laptop, the Ideapad L340's single exhaust vent and where it is located are not too effective for heat dissipation. As reviews have noted, there's a tendency for the laptop to reach a maximum high 95-degrees Celsius with the Core i5 processor and a maximum of 72-degrees Celsius with the Core i7 CPU.

Battery life lasts up to 9 hours when unplugged. The Rapid Charge technology ensures the gamer doesn't run out of juice in the middle of an intense game.

Most of the needed ports are found in the Lenovo IdeaPad L340-15IRH and are located strategically on the left side: two USB 3.1 Type-C ports, a USB-C, HDMI 2.0, a headphone/microphone jack and an RJ45. There's one Kensington lock on the right side of the entry-level gaming laptop.

Sound and audio quality is exceptional courtesy of Dolby Audio.

7. HP Omen 15-DC1073TX (15.6-Inch)

For a standard retail price of PHP 69,990, one might say that the HP Omen 15 is pricey. But this price range is quite reasonable versus other gaming laptops with similar specifications. The 15.6-inch HP Omen 15 has many features to boot. Among them it has a colorful display with a refresh rate of 144Hz, a strong performance and a comfortable-to-use keyboard. The lowest configuration of the Omen 15 comes with a 60Hz refresh rate.

The HP Omen 15's slim-bezel FHD IPS anti-glare micro-edge WLED-backlit display is nicely complemented by a comfortable two-zone keyboard backlit by RGB lighting.

The highest configuration of the Omen 15 Intel Core i7-9750H 6-core processor comes with Turbo Boost technology and a 12MB cache, plus an Nvidia GeForce GTX 1070 Max-Q GPU with 8GB DDR4 SDRAM and 1TB 7200 rpm SATA. There's a configuration including an AMD Radeon RX 580 graphics card. There's also a mid-tier offering with an Intel Core i7-8750H processor and lower memory and storage capacities. If you're willing to shell out extra bucks, there's an option for a 4K display panel.

The downside however is the 52W battery. For a gaming laptop, the battery life should be more adequate than the current one.

Other notable features are the HP Wide Vision HD web camera with an integrated dual-array digital mic and those awesome Bang & Olufsen speakers.

Pros

  • Overall gaming performance is good
  • Powerful processor and graphics processor
  • Good keyboard response
  • Good audio
  • Decent display with a very good 144Hz refresh rate, with 4K option

8. HP Pavilion 13

HP's 13-inch ultraportable offering, the HP Pavilion 13, has its own best features to flaunt especially in areas where others have failed, specifically in terms of battery performance. This little mid-ranger is not a gaming laptop, but can definitely support casual gaming along with basic tasks. Due to its compact size, users can easily carry it wherever they wish to go.

The Pavilion 13 allows for a good typing experience thanks to its distinctly styled keyboard. Heavy typing is easily supported with almost no flex encountered. The single-slab touchpad responds well and has good haptic feedback. For its size and price range, its Beats Audio speakers are comparatively not bad at all.

The 13.3-inch FHD IPS display on the Pavilion 13 features HP's BrightView micro-edge technology and is WLED-backlit. It is anti-glare with 300nits of maximum brightness, so watching movies or simply using the laptop outdoors will still provide good visibility. User feedback, however, says the screen brightness needs some improvement.

With the ultraportable laptop's Intel Core i5-1035G1 quad-core microprocessor with Turbo Boost Technology and 6 MB cache, good performance is assured. The Intel UHD Graphics GPU however is not for full gaming. The chipset along with an onboard 8GB DDR4-2666 SDRAM and a 512GB PCIe SSD for memory and storage is decent enough for a user to multitask between browsers while listening to music, watching movies and working with productivity apps.

Battery life is as long as 10 hours and has a 45W Smart AC power adapter. HP claims video playback on battery, unplugged, can last as long as 8 hours and 15 minutes.

The Pavilion 13 comes with all the necessary I/O ports: USB 3.0, USB 2.0, HDMI, Ethernet and a headphone and mic combo port. Wireless connectivity includes Bluetooth. An SD card reader is also available.

The SRP is PHP 56,990 for this HP ultraportable.

Pros

  • Compact and lightweight
