Xiaomi Overview

Xiaomi Corporation is a Chinese electronics company headquartered in Beijing which makes and invests in smartphones, mobile apps, accessories, laptops, and many more. The very first Xiaomi laptop was introduced in 2016. The company decided to tap into the laptop market as it identified a potential market to deliver the right balance between performance and portability, as well as to make it easier for young adults to afford a PC for productivity. Xiaomi is most famous for its smartphone devices so launching its first-ever laptop line was a huge surprise to everyone.

2010

Xiaomi was co-founded by eight partners.

Xiaomi officially launches its first Android-based firmware MIUI.

FundingXiaomi raises $41 million in funding from its Series A round.

2011

The Xiaomi Mi1 smartphone is announced. It is shipped with Xiaomi's MIUI firmware, based on Android, and resembles both Samsung's TouchWiz and Apple's iOS.

FundingXiaomi raises $90 million in funding from its Series B round.

2012

Xiaomi raises $216 million in funding from its Series C round.

Xiaomi announces the Xiaomi Mi2 smartphone. The phone is the first phone to be powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon S4 Pro APQ8064, a 1.5 GHz quad-core Krait chip featuring with 2 GB of RAM and the Adreno 320 GPU.

2013

Xiaomi announces the Mi3 phone, with one version powered by the Snapdragon 800 (MSM8974AB) and another version by NVIDIA's Tegra 4 chipset.

Xiaomi announces plans to open its first service center in Beijing.

2014

Xiaomi announces its expansion outside China, with its first stop in Singapore.

Xiaomi announces the RedMi Note phablet (known as HongMi Note in some Asian markets). The RedMi Note has a 5.5-inch HD display with OGS technology and an octa-core processor from MediaTek.

Xiaomi purchases the Internet domain mi.com for a record US$3.6 million, the most expensive domain name ever bought in China, replacing xiaomi.com as the official Xiaomi domain.

Xiaomi releases the Xiaomi Mi 4i.

Xiaomi announces it will invest US$1 billion in television content building.

Xiaomi completes a round of equity financing led by Hong Kong-based technology fund All-Stars Investment Limited, a fund run by former Morgan Stanley analyst Richard Ji raising over US$1 billion.

2015

Xiaomi announces that it will start selling the Yi Camera.

Xiaomi expands into India, announcing that it will make its Mi devices available through two of India's major e-commerce sites, and through offline retailers for the first time.

Xiaomi announces its expansion into Brazil with the launch of locally manufactured Redmi 2, the first time the company sells a smartphone outside Asia or assembles one outside China.

2016

Xiaomi launches Redmi Note 3 Pro in India. The First smartphone to powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 650 processor.

Xiaomi launches the Mi5, with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 820.

Xiaomi launches the Mi Max, with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 650/652 processor.

Xiaomi launches the Mi MIX, with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 processor.

2017

Xiaomi launches the Mi6, with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor including the latest MIUI 9.

2018

Xiaomi opened its first Mi Store in the Philippines.

2019

Xiaomi was named one of the qualified applicants for the virtual bank licenses in Hong Kong.

Xiaomi Laptops

    Xiaomi Mi Notebook Air (2018 and 2019)

    Xiaomi launched two Mi Notebook Air ultrabooks in 12.5" and 13.3" displays. It is made out of full-sized keyboard in a full metal body. The screens are fully laminated FHD display with edge-to-edge glass protection with a hardness of 7 on Mohs scale. Xiaomi incorporated and Austrian manufacturer AKG Acoustics for the speakers and enhanced the bass with Dolby Audio Premium Surround Sound technology. It has a Mi Sync software and Mi Cloud connection.

    Xiaomi Mi Notebook Air 4G

    Almost the same with the vanilla Ni Notebook Air but this time, Xiaomi released the Mi Notebook Air 4G with built-in 4G LTE by a SIM card.

    Xiaomi Mi Gaming Laptop 1st and 2nd Edition

    Mi Gaming Laptop has a faster SD reader and wireless connection, with two bios fans modes. It plays all the latest games in 1080p and has a good thermal, RGB lighting, and a spare NVMe x 4 drive slot and does not have any no gaming logos or design.

    Xiaomi Mi Notebook Pro

    One of the first notebooks to receive the latest Intel chipset, the Mi Notebook sports a 15.6-inches 1080p IPS with a glossy glass covered screen with 88% RGB coverage. The built of the laptop is pretty similar to other Xiaomi laptops with a thin full metal build, no logos on the lid and downward-firing speakers. The only difference is that this time, it uses Harman Infinity speakers.

    Other improvements are the keyboard, the touchpad, and the cooling. Each key is spaced out more, better feedback, the keys aren't 100% flat either they have a slight inward curvature with 1.3mm of travel. It also has optional backlit with two settings. Xiaomi also opted for two equal-sized fans and a much larger cooling heat-transfer pipe for cooling. The device is powered by a 60wh battery which is good for up to 10 hours of surfing the internet. The touchpad is big enough and has Windows precision drivers and full Windows 10 gesture support for great accuracy. Within the touchpad there is also an Elan fingerprint reader, it works well and unlocks the notebook in an instant.
