Latest Generation Toyota Fortuner, a Big Fortune For The Brand

Theres no stopping Toyota's biggest weapon in the SUV category. Check out how its outshines other brands in the Philippine SUV segment.

Since the very beginning of this year, Toyota continues to lead the Philippines auto industry as the world leading brand excelled in sales outshining other brands like Mitsubishi and Ford. To make it even bigger, the brand took out its biggest weapon in the SUV category, the all-new Fortuner earlier this year. Looking at the impressive figures of the SUV, each month the latest generation Fortuner has witnessed tremendous growth. In January, the company witnessed a growth of 71.23% selling 1863 Fortuner models. Feb witnessed a slight downfall in the sales number but it was still a better one when compared to last year, achieving a growth of 38.85% by selling 1576 models. Similarly, March had a growth of 7.59% by selling 1262 models.

Ever since it was first introduced in the country, it has garnered a lot of praise and admiration for its impressive performance, durability and all-terrain and off-roading capabilities. Now, in its latest generation, this mid-size SUV has got an even more distinctive and powerful design with an improvised performance. According to all-new Fortune's executive chief engineer, Hiroki Nakajima, this new Fortuner is a result of their continuous efforts to build a true SUV with a redefine toughness.

2016 Toyota Fortuner now sports a wider stance and looks bolder and rugged from every angle. With its style and slender and larger front design, it can be clearly seen that the latest generation Fortuner is made to fit both urban style and outdoor zones. Taking its designing cues from Hilux, the new Fortuner is made more aggressive than the previous model. While the headlamps get LED DRLs and bi-beam projector, the tail lamps receive LED guiding lights for better visibility. This new SUV is also fitted in new shoes where G models ride on 17-inch wheels while the V models get 18-inch wheels.

Aboard the new Fortuner, you will be awestruck with its bolder yet elegant interior. As a part of an up gradation, a Multi-Information Display, and a capacitive touchscreen has been integrated into both the models while MID shows fuel eco, radio display, and a compass. For the more appealing look, V models come in hues of black, dark brown and wood trim details whereas the G models feature chamois and black colors with wood trim details.

The latest generation Fortuner boasts a newfound driving performance with its all-new GD series engine. Though the new 1GD -FTV and 2GD-FTV engines are smaller in terms of displacement, but they deliver more output than the previous ones. While its 2.8-litre turbodiesel engine pours out the maximum power of 177PS and 370 Nm of torque, it 2.4-litre and variable geometry turbo put out 150PS of maximum power along with the torque of 330 Nm which can be over boosted at 400 Nm. New engines' performance is maximized via a newly developed six-speed manual transmission for 2.4 G and a six-speed automatic for the rest of the range.

On the safety front, this new SUV is fully equipped with a total of seven airbags including front, side and curtain and driver knee airbags along with Hill-start assist Control, Traction Control, ABS with brake assist, vehicle Stability Control, and larger disc brakes.
