It looks like Ayala-owned AC Motors has started to deliver on its commitment to release at least six vehicle models within the year. Volkswagen Philippines, one of the automobile brands it carries, has recently unwrapped the latest iteration of the Volkswagen Santana, with capabilities that would make the subcompact sedan highly competitive in the local market.

"Given the situation that customers are now looking for premium on their picks, the Santana will definitely give them their money's worth," Volkswagen Philippines president Felipe Estrella III was quoted to have said in an interview.
The local distributor of the well-renowned German brand is confident that the 2021 Volkswagen Santana would be a perfect driving companion, especially after the pandemic-related lockdowns and all sorts of crises that the year 2020 had presented.
There are now only two variants of the budget-friendly subcompact sedan available locally, as the manual transmission version of the outgoing model has been ditched. The 2021 Volkswagen Santana variants are all automatic, and these are the base model Volkswagen Santana 180 MPI AT S, priced at PHP 755,000, and the Santana 180 MPI AT SE, priced at PHP 898,000. Both models have under the hood a 1.5L powertrain with BlueMotion technology to ensure fuel efficiency. This EA211 inline-4 gasoline-fed engine can churn more or less 109hp power output and 145Nm peak torque, and is mated to a 6-speed automatic gearbox that sends power to the Santana's front wheels.
The 2021 Volkswagen Santana boasts improved features and amenities compared with its predecessor. The exterior of the range-topper SE gets cool upgrades such as automatic headlights with Leaving Home and Coming Home functions, front fog lights, rain-sensing intermittent control wipers, a sunroof and a set of 15-inch alloy wheels.
With premium comfort among the Santana's highlights, it has been designed with a long wheelbase for optimum cabin space. Moreover, the interior of the VW subcompact sedan is more comfortable than ever with the range-topper SE trim getting leather and upholstered seats as well as a front center armrest that's height adjustable. Cubbyholes and bottle holders are found on both front and rear doors, and there are reading lights on both front and rear rows. The multifunction steering wheel boasts cruise control, and there's a touchscreen infotainment system exclusive to the SE variant, with AM/FM radio, and USB and Bluetooth connectivity. An Apple CarPlay– and Android Auto-compatible 7-inch infotainment display can also be availed of as an optional feature.
Safety is also one of the best features of the 2021 Volkswagen Santana, with both S and SE variants equipped with dual front airbags, Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Electronic Stability Program (ESP), and Anti-Slip Regulation (ASR) as standard. Occupants of the top-of-the-line SE trim get to enjoy added safety features such as driver and front passenger side airbags and rear parking distance control.
Available in three colorways of Polar White, Deep Black and Reflex Silver, the 2021 Volkswagen Santana is already available in all Volkswagen dealerships nationwide. Along with the package is a 3-year or 100,000km warranty, whichever comes first, and aftersales services such as a yearly preventive maintenance service and 24/7 emergency roadside assistance.
With comfort, safety and affordability among the Santana's key offerings, the sedan is all poised to go neck-and-neck with the likes of the Toyota Vios, Honda City and Hyundai Accent which are currently enjoying success in this segment.
