With only exactly several days toward the dawn of the new year, 2021, you would think that Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) is already enjoying the holidays after a very busy second half. But no, it has one more endeavor to wrap up its 2020 activities and that is the launching of the 2021 Toyota Yaris hatchback in the country. The 2021 Toyota Yaris is the last of TMP's series of both new and refreshed vehicle revelations this year.
Elijah Marcial, the Vice President of Marketing Services at TMP, was quoted to have said that 2020 has been "a jam-packed year for Toyota," but there's still "one last exciting model" that the company will release before year-end that many Filipinos will surely delight in.
"The Yaris nameplate has amassed quite a loyal fan base for being synonymous with fun driving and flashy looks, and this year we've elevated it with a new premium eye-catching design to suit our customers' evolving style. All without, of course, compromising on the power, convenience, and safety we've all come to expect from every Toyota," Ms. Marcial said of the newly-launched Yaris.
According to Ms. Marcial, the latest iteration of the Toyota Yaris has a certain appeal mostly to married Filipino professionals between the age range of 35 to 40, who are "looking for a modern fun-to-drive vehicle that offers the great cargo space a hatchback offers".
There are two variants offered for the 2021 Toyota Yaris: the Yaris 1.3 E CVT, which gets a sticker price of PHP 973,000, and the range-topper Yaris 1.5 S CVT, officially priced at PHP 1,114,000.
The 2021 Toyota Yaris has an updated front fascia that now dons the Japanese automaker's new front grille, similar to the refreshed Toyota Vios sedan that was also launched months ago. Flanked by LED fog lights, this new grille gives the Yaris a bolder, more imposing stance. The more premium S CVT Yaris' headlights and daytime running lights (DRLs), as well as the rear line-guide lights, have been upgraded to LED. The hatchback's body paint scheme is accentuated by slick piano-black color that gives a striking contrast with the overall body color. On the door handles are chrome finishes that provide a sporty vibe and a charming aesthetic appeal. A rear spoiler and redesigned two-tone 15-inch alloy wheels are the perfect last touches for the exterior of the 2021 Yaris.
The interior of the Toyota Yaris also gets a new infotainment system that's compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and is now standard across all trims. The S CVT trim gets new synthetic leather seats.
Powering the 2021 Toyota Yaris E CVT is a 98hp- and 123Nm-torque-capable 1.3L engine, the Yaris S CVT a 106hp and 140Nm 1.5L engine, both paired with a CVT. These powertrains were carried over from the previous iteration. The 1.5 S CVT, however, has been equipped with paddle shifters and driver-changeable modes.
As expected from a Toyota vehicle, the 2021 Toyota Yaris comes with a host of ride-assist and safety features, which include 7 SRS airbags, Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) with Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD) and vehicle stability control with hill-start assist as standard. The S CVT also gets speed-sensing door locks.
A new vibrant colorway, Cyan Metallic, is on offer for the new Toyota Yaris. It joins the hatchback's other bold color options, namely Citrus Mica Metallic, Red Mica Metallic and the more classic Super White II.
