Toyota Motor Philippines has finally launched the all-new Toyota Corolla Altis, its first entrant to feature the first hybrid electric variant in the local market. The 12th-generation, 2020 edition also sits on the Japanese automaker's latest TNGA platform.
In terms of exterior styling, the 2020 Toyota Corolla Altis receives a front fascia that is very much familiar with Toyota's Camry fanatics. It now gets tapered headlights, alongside a distinctive grille, and a massive front bumper with a black lower air intake, and C-shaped corner bezels.
In addition, the 2020 Toyota Corolla Altis now also boasts of a fresh pair of taillights, besides a modified trunk lid – rendering the new variant with a much cleaner and more fluid shape than the series' previous generations. A choice between 16-inch and 17-inch alloy wheels is also thrown into the mix, depending on your chosen variant.
Meanwhile, the 2020 Toyota Corolla Altis' interior offerings mirror the bespoke aspirations of its exterior. For starters, it now comes with an inspired, more upmarket dashboard and center console. A floating touchscreen right on its center dash, on the other hand, allows the vehicle to exude a home-centric feel. The same goes with the addition of a new automatic climate control system. The new variant is also equipped with a new, three-spoke steering wheel, all complete with multi-media/cruise control buttons. A modified instrument cluster also joins the fold.
Note that the 2020 Toyota Corolla Altis also features a touchscreen infotainment system as a standard perk across all models. The system supports AM/FM radio. AUX, USB, Bluetooth, and CD/DVD. It also comes with T-Link for pairing Android or iOS devices. Sealing the deal in its interior is the inclusion of a six-speaker sound system, 12V power socket, and one-touch up and down power windows.
The all-new Toyota Corolla Altis offers two engine choices. For its non-hybrid versions, the vehicle provides a 1.6-liter 1ZR-FE four-cylinder engine, coupled with Dual VVT-i. The engine claims to produce 121 PS at 6,000 rpm, plus 153 Nm of torque at 5,200 rpm. It can either come with a CVT or six-speed manual gearbox.
For the hybrid variant, users could get a 1.8-liter inline-four 2ZR-FXE. It revs up 97 PS at 5,200 rpm and 142 Nm of torque at 3,600 rpm. And with its hybrid offering in the mix, the engine features a combined output of 121 PS. The 2020 Toyota Corolla Altis also boasts of three drive modes – Eco, Normal, and Sport – akin to that of the Prius.
