Hands-on photos reveal Sharp AQUOS S3 with iPhone X-like notch
The Sharp AQUOS S3 appears to have taken a leaf out of the iPhone X as in a new leak, it is depicted as having a front screen notch and a vertically aligned dual-rear-camera setup. The smartphone is expected to see the daylight at the MWC 2018 in Barcelona.
The Sharp AQUOS S3 has been doing the rounds of the rumor mill for long. So far, the alleged device has already gone past the TENAA in China and NCC certification in Taiwan. But that is not enough for the ever-churning grapevine. In the latest instance, the same handset has leaked again on China's microblogging site Weibo in the form of hands-on photos.
And from the looks of it, it seems clear that the Sharp AQUOS S3 will come with a notch on the top of the front panel akin to the iPhone X. The notch features a camera on the left and a speaker grille in the middle, and apparently a sensor on the right.
The presence of a notch is enough of an indication that the handset will have a bezel-less design with the in-vogue 18:9 aspect ratio. The phone imitates the same vertically aligned rear-camera setup as that of the iPhone X. The rear-camera module is vertically flanked by a secondary mic and an LED flash.
Interestingly, the fingerprint scanner is conveniently placed in the middle of the back side instead of being embedded into the home button. If we guess, the front camera might also be equipped with the facial recognition feature.
From the images, it appears that the back panel is either made of glass or has the NCVM coating. This rules out a brushed metal back as in its predecessor, the Sharp AQUOS S2. It is pertinent to note here that the Sharp AQUOS S2 launched last year was also armed with a notch, however, it mimicked the notch of the Essential PH-1 smartphone.
Expectedly, the Sharp AQUOS S3 will pack a 5.99-inch full HD+ display with 2,160 x 1,080 resolution. Powering the handset will be the Snapdragon 630 or 660 SoC coupled with 4 GB / 6 GB RAM and 64 GB / 128 GB internal storage.
As for the optics, the Sharp AQUOS S3 will tack on a 12 MP + 13 MP dual-rear-camera module while a 16 MP selfie camera inside the notch will adorn the front. Android 8.0 Nougat is expected to handle the software side of things and a 3,100 mAh battery will be there for supplying juice to the device.
The Sharp AQUOS S3 was initially expected to launch in the middle of the January, however, it didn't materialize. Now, the same is rumored to be breaking cover at the upcoming MWC 2018 event in Barcelona. If that happens, we will update you pronto. Stay tuned.
