Alongside the unveiling of the Samsung Galaxy S20 and the Galaxy S20+, Samsung also sneaked in what appears to be its most promising release in the iconic series relative to its camera game.
Samsung has officially announced the Galaxy S20 Ultra. The phone comes at such a vantage point with its moniker alone, as it's the first in the Korean tech giant's already expansive S series' portfolio.
But just what makes the Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra a standout among its established variants?
About Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra
The camera segment of the Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra bears almost no similarity with the hardware of the Galaxy S20 and the Galaxy S20+, culminating in several, pioneering features for the Galaxy S lineup, and the industry as well.
The Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra's primary camera features a sizeable 108MP sensor. The new camera uses 9-in-1 pixel -binning which can readily capture 12MP photos right with the equivalent of 2.4-micrometer pixels, which is said to be a new standard for low-light photography. Additionally, the setup features the optical image stabilization, with an aperture of f/1.8.
Meanwhile, the Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra features a sizeable 48MP telephoto camera, which is capable of 10x hybrid optical zoom. The setup also boasts a 12MP ultrawide sensor and a 0.3MP TOF 3D camera for depth-sensing.
Finally, the Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra's other highlight can be found in its 40MP front-facing camera, which is also a first in the industry.
The Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra is also one of the few smartphones, which push the envelope on a phone's screen size in its class. The phone sports a 6.9-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X display, the same type of show that launched with the Galaxy S20 and the Galaxy S20+.
Also, the Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra comes with support for HDR10+, Always-On Display, and 120Hz refresh rate of up to FHD resolution. The latest Corning Gorilla Glass 6 also protects its panel.
Power and Storage
Powering the Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra, like its siblings, is Samsung's Exynos 990 SoC and Qualcomm's Snapdragon 865 chipset. In terms of its GPU offerings, the phone boasts the Mali-G77 MP11 for its global variant while its edition in the U.S. comes with the Adreno 650.
Additionally, the Samsung Galaxy S20 sports a flexible duo of 12GB/16GB of RAM tiers, alongside 128GB/256GB of internal storage options. The latter can be expanded via a microSD card.
The Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra gets its juice from an equally massive 5,000mAh battery, which also comes with 45W fast charging, 15W fast wireless charging and 9W reverse wireless charging.
OS, Connectivity, and Sensors
The Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra runs on the latest One UI 2, based on Android 10.0. Some of its sensors include accelerometer, gyro, compass, barometer, and an in-display ultrasonic fingerprint reader.
Other key features include 5G connectivity, Bluetooth 5.0, a dedicated FM radio, NFC, and a USB Type-C port.
