Samsung Galaxy Note9 to enter into pilot production in Q1 2018 under the codename "Crown"

Samsung's next-gen Galaxy Note device, the Galaxy Note9, will bear the codename "Crown" according to the latest insider report in South Korea. The upcoming high-end phablet is expected to enter pilot production in the first quarter of 2018.

Following the success of the Samsung Galaxy Note8, the South Korean tech giant now shifts its focus to the next big things it has in its pipeline, the Galaxy S9, and the Galaxy Note9. The next-gen Galaxy Note9, which will serve as the successor to the current Galaxy Note8, recently starred in some reports circulating in the phone maker's home country. The local news outlet The Bell quotes an official from the smartphone parts supplier as saying, "We will start providing components for a pilot production (of the Galaxy Note9) in the first quarter next year."

Furthermore, the sources state that the Galaxy Note9 will bear the codename "Crown." It is worth mentioning that phone companies usually name the development project of their flagship products with unique codenames which gives a hint about a feature the handset will offer. For instance, this year's Galaxy Note8 came with the codename "Baikal," one of the largest freshwater lakes in the world located in southern Siberia in Russia. It could be hinting to the large display of the phablet while it might also be about the flowing design of the screen. The "Crown" codename for the yet-to-be-announced Galaxy Note9, on the other hand, might signify Samsung's goal to reclaim its throne after the Note7 fiasco.

Apparently, before you get too excited for the Galaxy Note9's arrival next year, please do remember that the Korean tech company will be launching the Galaxy S9 first, maybe in January 2018. Considering that the Galaxy S9 will be two months advance from the usual March unveiling, the Galaxy Note9 might also arrive sooner than August. If Samsung decides to stick on the traditional August release, it might be within the first or second week of the month. As of now, details about the Galaxy Note9 including its specs and features are still not known.
