Samsung Galaxy A80 Gets Priced in the Philippines for PHP 34,990

The premium mid-ranger from Samsung's revamped Galaxy A series is also the priciest in the lineup. But is it all worth it?

The hotly-anticipated, rotating pop-up camera-toting Samsung Galaxy A80 has finally received its official pricing in the Philippines.

Courtesy of the leaked photos which were spotted at the Techbox at SM Center in Las Piñas, the images reveal that the device is priced at PHP 34,990, making it the priciest variant of the Samsung Galaxy A series. Its recently-released sibling variant, the Samsung Galaxy A70 is currently priced at PHP 22,990 while the Samsung Galaxy A50 retails for PHP 17,999. Interestingly, that also makes the device PHP 5,000 cheaper than one of the Galaxy S variants, the Galaxy S10e, which is priced at PHP 39,990 locally.

The pricing of the Samsung Galaxy A80 may be a bit on the expensive side considering that it is a mid-range smartphone but when you factor in its camera technology and its official price tags in Europe, all reasons are justified. The device costs EUR 649 which translates to around 37,700 in peso. In other markets, the price points of the Galaxy A80 remain steep.

The main highlight of the Samsung Galaxy A80 is inarguably its motorized pop-up rotating main camera module. It houses a 48MP wide lens, an 8MP ultra-wide sensor, and a TOF 3D camera. The setup is supported by an LED flash, HDR, and panorama.

The rest of its features is a straight up mid-ranger. The Samsung Galaxy A80 sports a large 6.7-inch Super AMOLED display with a resolution of 1,080 x 2,400 pixels with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 as a protective layer.

Under the hood, the Samsung Galaxy A80 is powered by Qualcomm's latest premium mid-range chipset, the Snapdragon 730, mated to an Adreno 618 GPU. The device is also coupled with 8GB of RAM and a non-expandable 128GB of internal storage.

Due to its notch-less design, Samsung has elected to equip the Samsung Galaxy A80 with an improved in-display fingerprint scanner. Other notable features of the Samsung Galaxy A80 are NFC support, a dedicated FM radio, Bluetooth 5.0, and a USB Type-C port.

The Samsung Galaxy A80 runs on the latest Android 9.0 Pie with Samsung's One UI overlay. The smartphone also works on a 3,700mAh battery with 25W fast charging support.

The Samsung Galaxy A80 retails in three color variants – Phantom Black, Angel Gold, and Ghost White.
