REALME 5 PRO FULL REVIEW: PRICE REVEALED!

Official realme 5 Pro | Official Unboxing
About realme 5 Pro
Realme 5 Pro: Budget-wise quad-rear camera phone
Realme has been known to be the shadow of its much older and bigger sister company--Oppo. However, recently, it has successfully come out of the dark, establishing its name on the frontlines. Now, the former is known to produce smartphones with excellent specifications and features at a very affordable price. In fact, you get a notch-display device at 6,000 PHP and below with Realme C1. In September 2019, the Realme Company released the Realme 5 Pro, another affordable contender, which offers notable features. It has a 6.3-inch display with a tiny dew-drop notch. In its large screen is a Full HD+ resolution, which is crisp and decent. Inside, the device is powered by a Qualcomm's Snapdragon 712 SoC. The most interesting features that it sports are the quad-camera setup and the huge 4035mAh battery that has a VOOC charging feature through the USB Type-C port and connector. Realme 5 Pro prices start at 10, 590 PHP in most online shops and private sellers and retailers. Color options may be limited to two shades only--Crystal Green and Sparkling Blue. Surely, this device will entice budget mobile photographers and gamers.

Design of the Realme 5 Pro
You may expect that Realme implements a glass design for the Realme 5 Pro, but the device is practically dressed in plastic body design. It has a glossy and shiny rear that has cubism-inspire patterns, which really add more aesthetic value to the design. Despite having no official IP certification, Realme still claims that its design allows the device to be splash resistant; thus, accidental water splashes will not destroy the internals of the device. On the back, there is also a quad-camera setup, which is vertically flashed on the upper left corner with the single LED flash beside it. The camera module as a silver accent around it, which adds a premium and metallic feel. East of the camera setup, on the center, is a round fingerprint sensor with the silver accent around it. There are no annoying text prints on the back, but for the brand, there is a Realme Logo a few inches south from the camera module. Going to the front, we have a large 6.3-inch display that has a dewdrop notch. Bezels are noticeably reduced. The notch has the front-facing camera, and above it is the earpiece. There is not much on the front as the screen dominates most of the space. On the top side, there is a secondary microphone for noise cancellation. Going down to the bottom, you will see the main microphone, the 3.5mm headphone jack port, the USB Type-C port, and the single firing loudspeaker grille. Yes, it does not have a stereo speaker, but positively for an affordable device, it sports the new reversible USB Type C, which most smartphones today have. On the left side, you will find the dual-SIM card tray together with the dedicated microSD card slot; it supports two nano-size SIM cards, and the external storage is expandable up to 256GB. On the right side sits the power key. Positively, the placement of the physical buttons is very strategic and easy to access. They also feel right when pressed.
Display of the Realme 5 Pro
Talking about the humongous display, the Realme 5 Pro sports a 6.3-inch IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen, 16M colors. Its screen-to-body ratio is noticeably high at 83.6%, reducing bezels. Well, the side and top bezels are thin, while the chin on the bottom is comparably thicker. The resolution of the display scales to Full HD+ with an actual resolution of 2340 x 1080 pixels; it is housed in a 19.5:9 aspect ratio, resulting in a pixel density of 409 ppi. With that being said, the display performs decently, and it is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 3+ from minor scratches and damages. Unfortunately, it does not have an oleophobic coating to ward off fingerprints and smudges. However, out of the box, it comes with a pre-installed screen protector that further improves the security of the display. Looking closer into the display, the notch implementation is significantly less chunky and disturbing compared to the previous RealMe smartphones. This gives more screen real estate for display content, which is always a positive thing. However, it is unfortunate that there is no toggle that hides the notch in case you want a notch-less display, but that feature might come along together with the future system and software updates. Nonetheless, the display produces an adequate amount of brightness, maintaining legibility even when used outdoors under direct sunlight. It also produces vivid and vibrant colors with high-quality contrast. Positively, the display temperature can be customized according to your preference in the display settings. Well, Realme 5 Pro's display may not be as excellent as the Super AMOLED panels, but it performs decently despite its affordable. In fact, it is excellent in its own way with the FHD+ panel.
Performance of the Realme 5 Pro
Talking about how Realme 5 Pro performs, there is the Qualcomm SDM712 Snapdragon 712 (10nm) that powers it. It has an octa-core processor that is comprised of two Kryo 360 Gold cores clocked at 2.3GHz and six Kryo 360 Silver cores clocked at 1.7GHz. The mentioned CPU configuration is accompanied by Adreno 616 GPU for efficient graphics processing. In terms of memory, the device has 4GB, 6GB, and 8GB RAM variants, and for the internal UFS storage, you can choose on 64GB and 128GB models. Well, if you want more storage, you can expand it via a dedicated microSD card slot in the SIM card tray up to 256GB. It is indeed a great improvement from the previous Realme smartphones. For the 8GB RAM model, it scored 179, 025 in AnTuTu benchmark, 8,635 (Work 2.0) in PC Mark, and 316 (single-core) and 1477 (Multi-core) in GeekBench. With these scores, the Realme 5 Pro is expected to perform well with lesser noticeable lags and drop frames especially in playing heavy mobile games.
Software of the Realme 5 Pro
The operating system of the Realme 5 Pro is Android 9.0 "Pie". On top, there is the ColorOS 6 overlay, which is really widespread in most Oppo and Realme devices. With that being said, you cannot expect a pure android experience with the Realme 5 Pro as it is heavily skinned. However, the overlay does bring a lot of improving features for better smartphone experience. The software allows the cloning of applications, and it also has a dedicated Game Space. When it comes to devising security, aside from the fingerprint scanner mounted on the rear, there is a face-unlock feature. However, it only relies on the front-facing camera, which makes it less reliable and quick especially on low light conditions. There is also Kid Space, Hotspot Management, App Encrption that secures some applications, and Digital Wellbeing. Since it is a new device, it is expected to be upgradable to Android 10.0 soon.
Network and Connectivity of the Realme 5 Pro
The Realme 5 Pro, just like other smartphones today, supports two nano-sized SIM cards. Positively, the SIM2 no longer has to share with the microSD card as the latter has its own dedicated slot as well. In terms of network, the device supports GSM, HSPA, and LTE; this means that it can operate signals up to 4G. 2G network bands are GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900 - SIM 1 & SIM 2; 3G network bands are HSDPA 850 / 900 / 2100; 4G network bands are LTE band 1(2100), 3(1800), 5(850), 8(900), 38(2600), 40(2300), 41(2500). The network speed in HSPA is the usual 42.2/11.5 Mbps, while LTE-A speed is unspecified on paper. Going to device connectivity, Realme 5 Pro has Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, dual-band, Wi-Fi Direct, and a hotspot for WLAN. Bluetooth connectivity is version 5.0, A2DP, LE. GPS is also installed and enabled with A-GPS, GLONASS, GALILEO, and BDS. For music and news, there is a built-in FM radio to listen to. Positively, data transfer and charging are done through the USB Type-C 1.0 reversible connector. USB OTG (On-The-Go) is also a huge plus factor. Unfortunately, it does not have an infrared port and NFC for electronic transactions.
Sensors of the Realme 5 Pro
In terms of built-in sensors, the Realme 5 Pro has a fingerprint scanner mounted on the rear for biometric security. It comes in handy when unlocking the device. It is also complemented by a face-recognition feature via the front-facing camera sensor. Other important sensors on the device are an accelerometer, gyroscope, proximity, and compass. Well, it does not have a barometer, 3D sensors or any high-end sensors.
Camera of the Realme 5 Pro
For an affordable device, the Realme 5 Pro surprisingly has a quad-camera setup on the rear. The first sensor is a 48-megapixel camera with f/1.8 aperture lens, 1/2", 0.8µm, and Phase detection auto-focus. it is expected to perform excellently given its high pixel count. The second camera is an 8-megapixel sensor with an f/2.2 aperture lens, 1/4", and 1.12µm pixel pitch; the third camera is a 2-megapixel sensor, which is a dedicated macro camera for taking closer shots; the fourth one is another 2-megapixel sensor for depth information. The cameras, especially the main ones, are supported by a single LED flash, HDR, and panorama. Interestingly it can shoot videos in 2160p@30fps, 1080p@30/60/120fps, and 720p@960fps, gyro-EIS. Unfortunately, 4K video recording is going to be shaky because the camera lacks stabilization features like OIS (Optical Image Stabilization). On the front, we have only one 16-megapixel selfie camera that has an f/2.0 aperture lens, 25mm (wide), 1/3", and 1.0µm pixel pitch. It is a fixed focus, but it is supported by HDR and panorama. It can record in 1080 at 30fps. These camera configurations are further enhanced by the stock camera app that is easy to use.
Battery of the Realme 5 Pro
Talking about its power, the Realme 5 Pro draws from a non-removable Li-Po 4035mAh battery, which really pretty huge. Not just that, charging time is significantly reduced because the device supports fast battery charging at 20W (VOOC fast charging 3.0). It is said that the device can be charged to 50 percent in just 30 minutes, which is an astonishing feat, considering the cheap price point of the device. In battery a test, the device got 20 hours of video loop playback. With that in mind, the Realme 5 Pro is expected to last for a day even in occasional heavy use. Positively, gamers and power-hungry users will love the device.
Unboxing the Realme 5 Pro
Inside the retail box of the Realme 5 Pro is the unit itself and other necessary accessories. Positively, the package comes with the 20W VOOC supercharger and its proprietary USB Type-C connector for a complete VOOC charging experience. This is a huge plus for Realme as most brands sell fast charging adapters separately. There is no free 3.5mm headset; however, there is a protective silicone case for the device.
Comparing the Realme 5 Pro to Realme 5
The Realme 5 Pro is more expensive than the Realme 5. It is obvious given their names, but both phones are almost identical except for some major difference worth noticing especially when deciding which device is worth the buck. The Realme 5 Pro has a slightly smaller screen size at 6.3 inches but sports a higher display resolution at Full HD+. It comes with a much faster Qualcomm SDM712 Snapdragon 712 (10 nm) chipset and a maximum RAM of 8GB. Its main camera is significantly larger in terms of pixel count at 48MP, while the battery is smaller at 4035mAh. On the other hand, the Realme 5 has a bigger screen at 6.5 inches but lower resolution at HD+ only. It runs with Qualcomm SDM665 Snapdragon 665 (11 nm) chipset with a maximum RAM of 4GB. Its main camera is only a 12MP shooter, which is smaller compared to what the Realme 5 Pro has. However, in terms of battery capacity, the cheaper Realme 5 has a humongous 5000mAh battery.
Conclusion of the Realme 5 Pro
Considering its affordability, many gamers and power-hungry users who are in a tight budget will consider buying the Realme 5 Pro. Yes, it does not sport top-of-the-line specifications, which the flagships have, but it can really do a decent performance without irritating lags. More importantly, its design is pretty gorgeous and attractive; its display produces good quality content and vibrant colors with ample brightness; its main camera performs well; it has a long battery life with VOOC fast charging support; finally, it has a dedicated microSD card slot for expansion.
