About OPPO Reno3

A Highly Recommended Brand

OPPO has been regarded as one of the world's leading smartphone brands available to date, specializing in every end of high-quality camera phones and advanced smartphone photography techniques that have been used by over 200 million people around the world and still ever-growing rapidly. Pentagram themselves have also designed a new brand identity, which is a new kind of framework designed specifically for OPPO that introduces an all-new logo look and monogram and the reason for this change was that it can help the brand evolve as it broadens and widens its reach in every new and existing market. The program also includes an expanded color system and visual layout system which is a great improvement from OPPO, also has introduced a new custom typeface, namely OPPO Sans, a version where it's rendered in Chinese, Cyrillic, and Latin alphabets so a great expansion overall from OPPO. The visual updates can be compared from each of their dynamic changes to a few hints of subtle optimizations which actually coincides with the launch of OPPO's new Reno series. To compensate though with the difference, OPPO decided to leave out unnecessary elements on the Reno3, like glass or metal panel cover and them opting to use a plastic cover instead, which now had a glossy finish that absolutely still looks premium and feels just right to hold. While for its camera, OPPO has done well because the device itself comes with a video editing software app and reviewers were really happy spending time on it. It would be a lie to say that this device has the best camera on the market. What the phone does have however is the ability to take very respectable photos in just a few moments of unlocking and activating. It should be noted that the thin bezels on the device can sometimes cause users to accidentally touch the sides of the screen which may interfere with picture taking. Though a slight hassle, a bit of familiarization will help users avoid this accidental touch activation over time.

Pros

  • A beautiful gradient color
  • Excellent display
  • Excellent performance
  • Color Os has potential
  • Has a quick charging function

Cons

  • Protruding cameras
  • No protection against dust and moisture
  • No memory card slot

A Praiseworthy Sleek Design

Oppo giving the Reno 3 a generous display size of 6.4 inches that comes with it a metallic-like finish just around trim, because of it's design you would first expect the phone to weigh a bit more than usual. But with it weighing around at 170g with a thickness of 7.9mm, the OPPO Reno 3 is actually lighter than what most brands offer with a similar design. Although it doesn't look much alike to its predecessor the Reno 2, the phone itself still looks very sleek and does not fall short when it comes to build quality. For the Color choices, the Reno 3 has three different color options, namely Midnight Black, Skywhite, and an astonishing Aurora blue. Thanks to the presence of thin bezels, the device's face looks extremely sleek. While the bottom bezel is quite thicker than the sides of the entire phone but overall it is still thinner than most mid-range phones available on the market. Compared to its predecessor, the Reno 3 drops the pop-out selfie shooter and instead opts for an older selfie notch design which sits just under the phone call speakers. Sadly, there won't be a feature on the phone that lights up once you receive a notification, which is actually an important feature most people rely on nowadays but Realme has not added it. Now looking at the back of the device, you can clearly see the metallic gradient color of the phone. You can also find the OPPO logo located at the lower right corner of the device, and of course, the flash module and main selfie camera located at the top left side of the device, which gets an attractive shiny metallic color just around its edges. Unlike the Reno2 series that previously had the back cameras sitting just against the panel it was on, the Reno 3 also has a design of which it has a raised camera module, which means when the phone is placed on a flat surface you will see slight wobbling from it. But even though that's the case, placing a phone case should resolve the wobbling issue. On the left side of your device, you will see the standard volume buttons, together with it, you can also spot the dual SIM card tray, with just 1 single dedicated MicroSD card slot for that extra storage you would want. The right-hand side of the device is populated by a single power toggle which is well within reach of a user's thumb or index finger. When you look at the bottom part all you can see is the charging port, a single firing speaker, and lastly the primary microphone module, and Realme has also kept their audio jack accessible to any earphones that you have.

Quality Performance

Now for the performance, the Reno 3 has been readied with an octa-core MediaTek Helio P90 processor which is paired with a decent GPU, which if you know a bit of GPU knowledge it is quite low for phones. As for the memory, you get a generous amount of 8GB of RAM, which helps running apps become snappy still with no lags whatsoever, no matter how many applications are opened. Overall, Reno 3's user experience as far as it goes is overall great was snappy and very responsive. Reviewers were only to spot a few hiccups, and gaming on the phone was a cool breeze. So one can say that the Reno 3 can easily be used on heavy tasks you would need to do and it can do well in usage for moderate gaming. It also doesn't get too hot even when used in a prolonged period of times, although on the side note your hand might start getting uncomfortable because of its size, especially if you're one to use the phone for prolonged periods of time.

These specs though aren't anything special, but apart from getting used to handling it, the device itself never gave reviewers headaches on their trial runs. This piece of kit follows the traditional route for most smartphones with the use of an in-display fingerprint scanner, not unlike that of its predecessor. Some users may find this strange at first however after a short while, the snappy scanning and unlocking action will become second nature. Apart from that, you can also unlock your device using facial recognition and it actually does a pretty decent job at it as it only takes about a second to unlock the phone. But under low-light conditions, you might have a hard time using the face unlock feature since it doesn't capture well.

A Camera Trick

When it comes to the Reno 3's back camera, it has a quad-camera setup. To be more specific about it, it has a 13MP Telephoto Lens, a 48MP Main Camera, an 8MP Wide-angle Lens, and the lat on the quad-camera is a 2MP Mono Lens, which combining all this you will get the best photo you could ever even more so that the results come out with clear and contrast colors. As for the quality of the camera itself, the Reno 3 exceeded everyone's initial expectations of it, since it performed quite well as reviewers were testing it out on different conditions. Under well-lighted conditions, you can actually get the accurate and precise color that you would want in a photo. At the heart of it all is the 48MP camera sensor that the Reno3 has. Now when activating the 48MP feature in your options, this then would allow you to zoom in and capture more accurate details when you would want to capture images of distant subjects. Oppo is proud to showcase the Reno 3's ability to display extremely large images using the onboard 108MP Ultrawide-lens. When put to the test with the same subject, reviewers were surprised by how far they were able to see, but halfway through the zooming experience, pixelation was already starting to show. Although one can say it really isn't the best phone to capture faraway images but still, the overall quality of the shots taken is still excellent, especially if you are decided in printing your shots on a large poster. As previously stated the Reno3's 8MP ultra-wide lens, images are nothing to throw away, especially if you are under ample lighting. One of the things reviewers loved about it as well is that it has 109 degrees of wide-angle shot area. And if you're into ultra-wide shots, then do not hesitate because the Reno 3 is undoubtedly a decent performer regarding in this aspect.

Users will be thrilled when switching to the phone's front camera, as they will be greeted with an automatic beauty mode filter which greatly enhances the quality of selfies. Reviewers even tried setting the camera option to normal and took selfies and they said the result came out in high-resolution. However, the one thing it does lack is the sharpness of the final image, especially when you are in a spot where there aren't any favorable lighting conditions. Portrait shots for reviewers were quite a hit and miss as well because the Reno 3 seems to struggle to separate the foreground from the background of the image, but most of the time it does turn out pretty well. Now when it comes to video, the Reno 3 can shoot a fantastic 4k resolution at 30 FPS and with it comes an ultra steady stabilization feature, and because of this feature no matter what shots you would take whether walking or running will always turn out to be a steady moving picture instead of it going everywhere.

Fully Charged Competitor

This piece of kit is no slouch in the power department. Sitting inside the Reno 3's chassis is a 4025mAh battery cell which is more than enough to meet most user's daily screen-on times. On the average usage, it was able to get reviewers the whole day and the only time needed to charge the phone was in the evening or before going to bed.

An Amazing OS Complimenting Every Bit of The Tech

The OPPO Reno 3 comes with Color OS 7.0 which is currently based on Android 10, and this is one of the smoothest and sweetest OS. By default upon opening the phone the device will be set to standard mode, this is where all your apps are located on the home screen, but if you ever want to change that you can, you can activate the drawer mode to change things up, and the phone has a Dark Mode as well which, most of the reviewers who tried it says they prefer it as it looks cleaner. Now swiping your screen to the left of the homepage will get you to where you can see the smart assistant search, where you can keep track of where your apps are located, and how many steps you have taken for the day. And also you can subscribe to more services plus view events that you have set-up, the weather for the day, and also being able to add your favorite contacts, which is very convenient since they are all on 1 page of the screen. Apart from the basic apps of the device and Google services, bloatware was nowhere to be found which is quite amazing. This is very good to see because some users will download apps through third party modes, and with this as well you can restore some order to your phone and hide unnecessary apps. And since you really can't mess with bloatware, thankfully the Reno3 does come with a dedicated microSD slot for additional memory. When it comes to sharing files, OPPO does not like to be beaten since they have built a P2P sharing feature which is very capable of sending files quickly and not only between their phones but also with other brands like Xiaomi or Vivo and the Reno3 can support a MicroSD up to 250GB which is already quite large.

A Final Verdict

To wrap things up, the Oppo Reno3 is a very exceptional mid-range tier smartphone that performs well in every aspect and has a dependable driver that's more than enough to satisfy your needs on a phone, may it be for work, relaxation, or playing. And with its solid front and back camera, you would not have any hassle in capturing every moment of your life, especially if you are in a well lit environment. But as always everything has their own fair share of quirks and the Reno3 is no different Oppo should focus on fixing the ultra night mode of the camera since it was the part of the phone that had plenty of bad reviews, but overall the phone is a good tier for anyone.
