OPPO A55 5G Launches with Dimensity 700 Chip and 5,000mAh Battery

OPPO's latest is a budget-friendly smartphone with a set of formidable internals front-lined by a 5G-backed chip but is marred by unimpressive display offerings.

OPPO has officially launched the OPPO A55. Touted as its latest budget-oriented smartphone, the phone was announced without much fanfare in China.

Despite such muted arrival, the Chinese smartphone manufacturer's latest is also among its most solid releases to date, especially in the entry-level segment.

The OPPO A55 settles for a lackluster display front, however. It features a 6.5-inch IPS LCD panel with a resolution of 720 x 1,600 pixels and a dewdrop notch. The phone's screen also offers a conventional 60Hz refresh rate, alongside a 60Hz touch sampling rate.

Other key display features of the OPPO A55 include 71% NTSC color gamut, 269 PPI, 1500:1 contrast ratio, and 480 nits of peak brightness.

Around the back of the OPPO A55 is a clean-looking panel only interrupted by vertically-aligned triple cameras housed in a rectangular module. The setup comprises a 13MP primary camera, a 2MP macro shooter, and a 2MP unit for portrait shots. On the front, an 8MP selfie shooter is residing in its notch.

Inside the OPPO A55 is, without a doubt, the phone's highlight. The handset is powered by MediaTek's Dimensity 700 5G chip, with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of expandable storage.

Another attraction of the OPPO A55 can be found in this department. We're talking about the phone's massive 5,000mAh battery. For some strangest of reasons, OPPO only managed to equip the smartphone with dismal support for 10W charging, which should prove to be quite a disappointment among power enthusiasts.

Nevertheless, the OPPO A55 charges over a redeeming USB Type-C port. The phone also features a 3.5mm headphone jack, a side-mounted fingerprint reader, and Bluetooth 5.1.

Apart from 5G, the OPPO A55 supports dual-band Wi-Fi 5, GNSS (BeiDou, GALILEO, QZSS, GLONASS), and a series of sensors such as a gyroscope and accelerometer.

The OPPO A55 runs on ColorOS 11.1, based on the latest Android 11. The phone is noted as one of the first entry-level smartphones to ship with the latest Android OS.

The OPPO A55, currently up for pre-order, carries a price tag of CNY 1,599 (around PHP 11,900). There's no word yet as to when the device will arrive in the Philippine market.
