About Nokia 9 PureView
The Uproar of The Nokia 9 PureView's Unique Penta Camera
What's in The Nokia 9 PureView?
Today, a smartphone is a necessity in everyone's pockets. The Nokia 9 PureView is something to look out for. The most captivating in this smartphone is the 12MP Penta camera, which forms a flower look pattern. Looking at the back, there are 5 camera lens, one Time-of-Flight (TOF) sensor, and an LED flash. These cameras simultaneously capture any scene with pure details. Other than that, it has a decent 20MP front-facing camera. Both of its cameras can record a video up to 4K resolution and not mention that it has a special optional feature that keeps the RAW format of an image. The RAW image keeps all possible details and does not compress it. Even though the main focus of this device is the camera, the overall specification or build also deserves a compliment. The Nokia 9 PureView has a classic clean and premium look. Built with a glossy exterior, but only available in a Midnight Blue color. It has an aluminum frame and is protected by the Gorilla Glass 5. To maximize the device's capability, it is packed with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 with an octa-core processing unit, and installed with one of the best graphic unit, the Adreno 630. Not to mention the pure android experience because it is installed with the Android One program and runs Android 9 that can be upgradable to Android 10. There are no annoying or unwanted applications that are installed, just pure, and default. The device is best for any purpose can be photography or mobile gaming. The device may lack an external SD card slot, it still offers 128GB for internal storage and 6GB for RAM. Another downside of the Nokia 9 PureView is it does not have a 3.5mm earphone jack. The battery of the Nokia 9 PureView is a Li-Po non-removable 3,3020mAh that can last up to 79 hours (standby time). In addition, it also supports 18 Watts fast charging and can recharge up to 50% in just half an hour.
Pros
- Has a 12MP rear penta-camera
- Image output can be saved as a RAW or uncompressed file, which maintains the captured high amount of details
- Has an LED flash to illuminate dark sceneries
- It also has its own photo editor for the depth feature, can manually choose which part of the image to focus on by just tapping.
- When shooting black and white images or videos, it uses its three monochrome lenses. The quality of the output is way better than capturing it with the normal lenses, afterward topping it with a monochromatic filter that lessens the image quality.
- The exterior design of the device is spectacular, a glossy like glass look.
- Comfortable to grip because of its rounded edges
- Runs by Android One, a bloat-free system
Cons
- Thick display bezels, both head, and bottom
- No 3.55mm headphone jack
- Only has one speaker grill
- Has only a single nano-SIM card tray
- No dedicated external SD-card slot
- The image or video preview and process takes an amount of time to finish
An Exceptional Design
The Nokia 9 PureView has a distinct peculiar look in a good way that's what makes it unique. The company decided to install the Nokia 9 Pureview with a rear 5 camera setup. Not only does it have five cameras that make it somewhat odd but its placement that forms a flower pattern. Fascinatingly, it is the very first smartphone device that has cameras placed this way. The exterior body of the Nokia 9 PureView has a nice accent, a glossy back mirror-like glass. The device still carries what Nokia is known for, strong and durable. It's not only for looks because both its surfaces (front and back) are made of Gorilla Glass 5. The frame is made of aluminum that makes it even more attractive. The phone does not offer other available colors but only Midnight Blue. The smartphone weighs 172 grams or 6.07 oz and has a dimension of 155 x 75 x 8mm or 6.10 x 2.95 x 0.31 inches. With this size, it is comfortable to grip and its weight is common for smartphones. In addition, like most phones today, a common non-removable Li-Po battery, powers a 3220mAh. The battery may not be that of a compliment, but it is surely enough to perform the whole day's tasks. It's standby time can last up to 79 hours. It also supports an 18 Watts fast charging (Quick charge 3.0) and fast wireless charging. Although the device is fully charged in almost 2 hours, it can rapidly replenish up to 50% in just half an hour.
A Robust Flagship Core Build
Premium looks aren't the only goal of the Nokia 9 PureView, but its interior core can gather compliments as well. The device program is run by the Android One system where promising its users a pure Android experience without bloated application. By default, its platform on Android 9.0 Pie (upgradable to Android 10). The device has a Penta-camera wherein it needs a powerful core that can support and process its high-quality images. The Nokia 9 PureView is installed with the famous chipset Qualcomm (SDM845) Snapdragon 845. An Octa-core for its central processing unit or CPU, consisting 4 times 2.8GHz of Kryo 385 Gold and 4 times 1.7GHz of Kryo 385 Silver. The device is proud to have an Adreno 630 for its graphic processing unit, one of the most used graphic units in the smartphone market. By the power of these components working together, it is capable of alleviating high-quality image processing. The device can run multiple tasks all at once, performing its duty for everyday use. It is best for either phone photography or for gaming.
A Real "PureView" Experience
The Nokia 9 PureView has a P-OLED display wherein has an amazing brightness outdoors. Even the screen is facing direct sunlight, it can illuminate from 513 nits on manual mode and up to 727 nits on automatic mode. The device is a 5.99 inches display where it has a 79.7% screen-to-body ratio (18:9) and a resolution of 1440 x 2880 pixels. Nokia obviously didn't imitate its smartphone competitors when it comes to design. They decided not to have a notch or bezel-less display but rather a thick front display head like the old smartphones. It is where the 20MP selfie camera is located. It may not be traditional compared to others, but at least the users can no longer be annoyed by a notch taking up the display view. The Nokia 9 PureView has a special display feature called the "Always-on" option. By enabling this, users can see stuff like notifications, date, and time without waking up the phone's display. The display is wide enough to watch movies or even play mobile games.
A Top-Notch Unique Camera
When the Nokia 9 PureView was announced and started releasing previews of the device, it started an uproar. Everybody began to talk about how unique this device is, and that's because of its odd rear Penta-camera placement or pattern. Unlike most of the smartphones today, Nokia did not go for a simple look but instead went for something unique. In the pattern, it consists of five Zeiss Optics 12MP lenses, a TOF or "Time-of-Flight" depth sensor, and a dual-LED flash. It's worth mentioning that there is no camera bump on the back of the device, this allows it to be perfectly utilized while its back is facing a certain hard surface. Two of the Penta-cameras are RGB sensors and the other three lenses are monochrome sensors. All the cameras are simultaneously capturing images with each lens to produce a highly detailed output. The device gives an option to save the image capture as a RAW file. This means users can keep the uncompressed version of the image which contains more details and has a better quality. The device also has different camera features like Pro mode, panorama, timelapse, square, bokeh, and monochrome. With these features, phone photography enthusiasts would be incredibly excited. The Nokia 9 PureView can capture astonishing HDR videos from 1080p@30fps up to 4K@30fps and can capture surround sound audio. Another cool feature that can be enabled is the split-screen video. Capturing different scenes using two different lenses at the same time. Moreover, it has a special photo editor where depth can be edited, meaning the user can choose which part of the image to focus on while blurring the other by just tapping the area. The raw photo that can be taken from the cameras of the Nokia 9 PureView can be boring at first glance, but if its user puts more effort to edit the image on a certain photo editor like Lightroom or Snapseed, the output is shockingly outstanding. Now, the selfie camera that the device has is a single-camera with 20MP and supports HDR features. Allowing its users to capture decent selfies. Lastly, the video quality from the selfie camera can capture 1080p@30fps up to 4k@30fps.
Its Connectivity and Storage Capacity
The Nokia 9 PureView only has a single Nano-SIM slot. It can be ejected using a SIM tool and its SIM tray is located at the top of the device's body, where a microphone can also be found. However, there is no dedicated slot for an external micro-SD card. As said, the device can capture high definition images and store them in JPEG or RAW format, these formats take-up a lot of space, for that reason, it can be considered a disappointment. On the other hand, the default storage capacity of the device is a large 128GB internal memory and 6GB RAM. The device supports GSM, HSPA, and 4G-LTE data connectivity. The device has an installed data transferring system specially made for mobile phones, the Universal Flash Storage or UFS 2.1. This system swiftly transfers data from one place or storage unit to another. It is considered a portable SSD for mobile smartphones. The Nokia 9 PureView runs a USB Type-C 3.1 and Bluetooth version 5.0. Looking at these aspects guarantees the device smoothly process the files or data that are being transferred.
A Must-Have Special Features, Security, and Performance
This is one of the features that the Nokia 9 PureView proudly has, the IP67 dust or water-resistant up to 1 meter for a maximum of 30 minutes. The anxiety of spilling liquids on the device is no longer a thing. Freely leaving the phone on a surface beside a glass of coffee is now an "OKAY" thing to do. Another disappointment for some users is that the device has no 3.5mm jack nor a radio. More people still prefer using traditional earphones than wireless ones. Nokia tries to make up for the loss of the 3.5mm jack by including a connector in the box. Wherein the traditional earphones can be plugged in the connector then into the USB C-port and still gives the same audio outcome. As for the loudspeaker port, the Nokia 9 PureView has only one of it and is located at the bottom right of its body. The loudspeaker has an audio quality of 24-bit or 192kHz. Now, proceed to the device's security features. Its primary protections are the in-display fingerprint scanner, pattern password, and facial recognition system. There are common GPS or Global Positioning system installed in the device. Not only cameras but also performance is one of the main reasons why consumers become fond of certain a smartphone. These attributes are a plus for the views of phone enthusiasts. According to the AnTuTu (version 7) benchmark performance test result, the Nokia 9 PureView scored 288,473. While on the GeekBench (v4.4) it scored 8,986 and 19fps on the GFXBench.
The Nokia 9 PureView's Good Points and Why it is Worth Purchasing
The Nokia 9 PureView may have a peculiar Penta-camera setup, but these are not only for show. The 12MP rear Penta-camera simultaneously work together to capture the best and every detail of a certain image. Not only that, its TOF depth sensor and monochromatic lenses add spices to its outputs. As well, its front selfie-camera has an incredible 20MP, both the rear and front-facing camera can record up to 4k video resolution. The device's reputation seems to mainly focus on the camera, but not leaving its performance and other features behind. The Nokia 9 PureView is run by the Android One, a bloat-free operating system. For those who don't know about this, Android One only has default and necessary applications installed. Unlike other customized Android OS, where countless unnecessary applications and annoying ads are preinstalled. In addition, a pure android experience indeed. From its exterior premium looks, flagship quality core builds, fast chipset, and for its price, it's enough to prove that it's worth it.
