About MyPhone myXI1

MyPhone myXi1: A "Porma-Ready" Budget Phone

The MyPhone myX1nis perhaps one of the cheapest smartphones from MyPhone that feature a modern design and technology. The Y6 Pro was announced and released in April 2019, and it certainly tempted the consumers on the entry-level category. One interesting fact to notice is the device can be bought under PHP 3,000. The myX1 is undeniably a budget device. Although the price also reflects the features you get like the display is old style. No notch and is not bezel-less. It is powered by Spreadtrum SC7731E Quad-core Cortex-A7 and is powered by the Mali-400 GPU model. This hardware configuration is coupled with 1GB of RAM and 8GB of internal storage, which can be expanded up to 64GB. It runs on an Android 8.1 Oreo (Go Edition) without any overlay or custom skin. The MyPhone myX1's price is at PHP 2,999 for its manufacturer's suggested retail price. Yes, the device is cheap and affordable; thus, its specifications are decent for its price, and its downsides can be overlooked. It is available in three colors: Moonlight Silver, Lustrous Gold, and Celestial Blue.

There is not much to expect in the package aside from Myphone opting for an eco-friendlier packaging. It comes in a simple brown box with an enormous image print of the actual unit on the front. Inside the box, you will be greeted by the device itself, the MyPhone myXi1. Moving on, there is a smaller box that contains the manual, free MyPhone sticker, power adaptor, USB cord, free earphone, and the battery. Well, that is always the case for MyPhone budget-level smartphones that they don't give a free protective case for the device since it's already very affordable.

PROS of the MyPhone myXi1

  • It is affordable
  • There is a dual rear-camera setup
  • There is Beauty Effect for a selfie camera
  • There is Autofocus, LED Flash, and Bokeh Effect available

CONS of the MyPhone myXi1

  • There is no NFC feature
  • There is no dewdrop-notch display
  • There is no OIS support and video stabilization
  • There is no fast charging
  • There is no fingerprint scanner
  • There is only one storage option

Design of the MyPhone myXi1

The MyPhone myXi1 sports a traditional 18:9 aspect ratio display with an installed screen protector. On the right side, you will see the volume rocker and a power/lock button, which are made of plastic but still tactile and solid when pressed. On the chin/bottom of the phone, you get a very thick bezel without any logo or lettering, which makes the thick bottom bezel space wasteful. Below it, you will find the primary microphone and loudspeaker. Moving to the left side, you get a dual nano-sized SIM card tray. Not just that, it has a dedicated microSD card slot; this simply means that you do not have to sacrifice a SIM slot for storage expansion. On the top, you will find a 3.5mm headphone jack, which is a huge plus, and the secondary microphone for noise cancellation, and the MicroUSB 2.0 with USB OTG that is compatible with Myphone DTV. The back panel is made from a Glossy Plastic material and does a good job of visually looking like Aurora Borealis. Do note that it doesn't verge seamlessly toward the since the surrounding frames are quite prominent. Mostly made out of plastic, it is very light to bring and fiddle with. Sitting on the upper-left corner of the back panel is a single 5-megapixel camera module with a single LED flash next to it. The MyPhone myXi1 model comes in three color variants, which are namely Moonlight Silver, Lustrous Gold, and Celestial Blue. The Celestial Blue color is much preferable if you like a pop of color. However, Moonlight Silver and Lustrous Gold are also good color options.

Display of the MyPhone myXi1

The MyPhone myXi1sports a 5.45-inch FWVGA+ IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen, 16M colors. It has a rating of FWVGA+ resolution with an actual resolution of 480 x 960 pixels, which is housed in an 18:9 aspect ratio. With that, the display garnered a pixel density of 197 ppi. Yes, it may not have a more compact pixel count as pixels are quite noticeable upon closer look, but enjoying videos and content on the device is acceptable. Regardless of that, colors produced by its display are decent and pretty accurate, but its blacks are not as good as those found in the displays of a smartphone with PHP 4,000 and up price tag. Since it has IPS technology, viewing angles are expected to be bright and admirable without observable color shifts. It is also comprehensible enough when used outdoors. The display may not be as superb, but it is manageable considering the cheap price of the device.

Performance of the MyPhone myXi1

Speaking about the hardware performance of the device, the MyPhone myXi1 is powered by a Spreadtrum SC7731E; it is a quad-core Cortex-A7 clocked at 1.3 gigahertz. It is paired with Mali-400 GPU for graphics processing. This CPU and GPU configuration is coupled with 1GB of RAM, which can be a problem since it's not that much RAM. Playing games would be a problem for the device even if you put the game graphics setting on a low to medium set-up. It can accomplish basic tasks. For the internal storage, it sports 8GB that can be expanded up to 64GB via microSD card.

Software of the MyPhone myXi1

Regarding the software department, the MyPhone myXi1 runs on Android 8.1 Oreo (Go Edition). The Android Oreo Go Edition is a special software which caters to phone with up to 512MB RAM and 1GB RAM only. Because the RAM is not that big, it helps the phone by boosting the start-up time by 30 percent. It also helps with storage optimization, management features, and security features. The limited performance of the phone is boosted with more efficient applications such as Google Assistant Go, Google Go, Google Maps Go, YouTube Go, Gboard, Gmail Go, Chrome, and Files Go. All these apps have Google's data saver feature. Since there is no custom skin implemented on top of Android, it is expected that you are going to just have a straightforward Android Go experience. However, if Myphone decided to put an EMUI, it would have gotten a get a bunch of launcher options like being able to change the way our home screen transitions. There are a bunch of pre-installed MyPhone applications like Pinoy (which patented to Myphone and has many features like Daily devotion every 6 AM, 12 noon, 3 PM, and 6 PM). Other applications are Google Maps, Google Play store, and Game one.

Camera of the MyPhone myXi1

For mobile photography, the MyPhone myX1 has an 8-megapixel camera on the rear with an identified aperture lens, Bokeh Effect, and Auto-focus support. It is further improved with the support of a single firing LED flash. Yes, the device does sport a dual-camera system, which is nice considering its affordable price with a 2-megapixel depth sensor. On the front-end, we have a 5-megapixel selfie snapper housed on the upper thick bezel. Just like the rear camera, it has an unidentified aperture lens. The front camera only works as a camera can't be used for face unlock or scanner. The cameras on the back and the front support video recording but the frames per second are also not specified anywhere. The device does not have OIS or video stabilization for the camera either. Nevertheless, with the 8-megapixel shooter takes decent and sharp photos with good colors and contrast when lighting is well. In addition, the front-facing camera has a beauty mode so you can post selfies without needing a third-party editor. If you feel like the images are too enhanced, you can always edit the settings.

Battery of the MyPhone myXi1

There is nothing so special about the battery configuration of the MyPhone myXi1 as it is quite down the average battery capacity that is ideal in today's need for power, though it is reasonable considering the price. The device is packed at a 2,450mAh battery that could last for three to five hours depending on the usage. Using it on social media, it will half a day. In a video loop test, 120 minutes of continuous playback. Unfortunately, the device does not have any fast charging feature. There is also no wireless charging. With very light to moderate use, the device may last a day.

Network and Connectivity of the MyPhone myXi1

Like many smartphones today, the MyPhone myXi1 also supports two SIM cards with GSM and HSPA networks. This means that you can have 2G and 3G signals on the device. Its network bands are: EDGE & GPRS the 2G network; HSPA+ for the 3G network. The HSPA+ is an upgraded 3G with a peak range of 10 Mbps. This technology is introduced in 2008 and is also called 3.5G. Both EDGE & GPRS are from the same technology with the EDGE having more improvement that the traditional GPRS. EDGE technology offers speeds of over 236 kilobits per second, but GPRS speeds up to 48 kilobits per second. Yes, EDGE is superior because using EDGE devices significantly increases data rates. Connectivity-wise, the MyPhone myXi1 has Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n/ and Wi-Fi Direct. There is Bluetooth version 4.2, A2DP, LE.GPS (Global Positioning System) is enabled with A-GPS. If you run out of music, there is FM radio installed for you. Unfortunately, it offers the old-fashioned micro USB port for data transfer and charging. There is also no NFC for electronic transactions.

Sensors of the MyPhone myXi1

Unfortunately for the MyPhone myXi1, there is no fingerprint sensor to unlock the device and there is no facial biometrics feature on the front camera either. Of course, this is a basic spec for the most phone but since MyPhone myXi1 is a budget one, they cut corners on sensors usually offered by more superior devices. Other important sensors installed are the accelerometer and the proximity sensor. No gyroscope and compass this time.

Comparing the MyPhone myXi1 to MyPhone myX1

The MyPhone myXi1 has a similar name with the MyPhone myX1, although MyPhone didn't announce if the former was a predecessor of the latter. Are there major differences between the two phones? Well, if you check them out, the most notable difference goes to the huge leap in the design department. The former now sports a glossy gradient back case, while the latter has the solid colored backs. Aside from that, The MyPhone myXi1 has a bigger screen size than the MyPhone myX1 with a 5.45-inch display compared to the latter's 4.95-inch display. In terms of chipset used, the MyPhone myXi1 uses a Spreadtrum SC7731E with 1GB RAM and 8GB ROM, while the MyPhone myX1 uses Spreadtrum SC7731 with 1GB RAM and 8GB ROM, which is not a lot of change at all. Aside from the design, the major changes with both phones are the camera features. MyPhone myXi1 has a dual rear camera with a higher resolution than that of MyPhone myX1. The same goes for the selfie snapper. MyPhone myXi1 also sports a more updated version of Android, thus, serving a better user experience. Both don't offer 4G networks, has the same display resolution and aspect ratio, and both have a hybrid dual SIM slot. With these differences and similarities, the MyPhone myXi1 is being sold for PHP 2,999 while the MyPhone myX1 has a price tag of PHP 2,599.

About MyPhone and its Popularity

MyPhone is a local Philippine own brand company by MySolid Technologies & Devices Corp. of Solid Group Incorporated. MyPhone is the first mobile phone brand in the Philippines to have a dual active SIM feature. MyPhone is one of the best local budget-friendly phones in the Philippines. It allows practically every Filipino to experience the benefits of using a smartphone without breaking their bank accounts. MyPhone has a great series of phones with affordable prices tagged on it, so no doubt that it's one of the brands in the Philippines that Filipinos patronize. MyPhones stalls and shops can be spotted in all shopping centers so it's really accessible to check the devices anywhere nationwide.

Conclusion of the MyPhone myX1

The MyPhone myX1 sounds like a better option than MyPhone myX1, because of the better software. Despite being an entry-level device, it still sports decent specifications for day-to-day use though it is having the Android Go edition software, which packs of Go handy features that make up for the lack of RAM. The display is borderline decent and enough for today's consumers. The upgrade to the great trendy back design which makes the phone more desirable and is a good move for MyPhone. The Pinoy app is also something MyPhone does that really catches the Filipinos fancy, since it has reminders for daily devotion for Roman Catholics. It is admirable that MyPhone produces smartphones that are affordable to budget-tight consumers with users in mind.
