  The Mercedes-Benz GLC200. Luxury in an SUV.

  The GLC is the middle-sized crossover-4x4 Benz. Basically, a C-Class Estate on stilts. Luxury touches and amenities characteristic of Mercedes Benz. Included is the latest Mercedes ‘MBUX’ infotainment set-up, with a world-class voice-assistant and fiddly touchpad/touchscreen control. Performance and technology in one of the best mid sized SUVs out there.

  Soft and relaxed

  <exterior>
  It is a standard 4WD style; there is nothing eccentric about it. I thought it looked similar to M (GLE?), my previous car, but it feels as big as a mountain. Because it is white, it is like a huge polar bear. If you want your car to have punch, this is not strong enough.

  <interior>
  The real leather seats and black wood panel have great texture. There are many things I have to learn like GPS system and other systems, but according to the sales rep from the dealer, GL is rather simple among Mercedes. Because I like driving a roomy car by myself, this is comfortable. I have folded the third row when it was delivered. I'll never use it.

  <engine performance>
  Enough and necessary for me. I only drive on left hand side on highways.
  I think diesel sound is a little noisy.

  <drivability>
  No complaints.

  <comfort>
  It is soft and very comfortable. This is the biggest merit of this car. Sports mode doesn't make such a big difference. You might get motion sickness if you prefer it to be hard.

  <fuel efficiency>
  I heard it is about 10 according to the dealer. Because the tank capacity is 100L, I wonder how far it can travel.
  This reminds me of Land Cruiser I drove when I was a student as it uses diesel, too.

  <price>
  As it has almost all the equipment, I think it is reasonable. But because I don't use radar safety P or sunroof, I don't think they are not needed.

  <overall>
  I replaced my 7-year-old Volvo XC90 with this. VC90 is also a good car you can drive relaxed. At first, I was thinking to go for G350, and I even asked the dealer to prepare a demo car. But it was too hard for me. I tried GL, which was ready for other people for a test drive, and I fell in love with its comfort. I signed the contract right there.

  It is OK with me as I own a car park, but you need to be careful when you park especially in central Tokyo as this is wide.

  Great for a family of five

  <exterior>
  I thought it looked like M class, but as you drive this car, you realize it actually is different. I liked its gentle look.

  <interior>
  Not so different to M class... I wish it was more like current S.

  <engine performance>
  It has a 350 BlueTech, but it felt lighter than I had imagined. But because the vehicle weight is heavy, it doesn't go like M350.

  <drivability>
  It goes slower than M350, but I think it is the characteristic of this car. If you like sharp steering, this is not for you.
  Its maneuverability is good. Especially after driving 70 Pickup Truck...

  <comfort>
  Soft. Some people may get motion sickness if they don't use sports mode. One of our family member got motion sickness, so we used sports mode. Personally, Comfort mode was OK, too.

  <fuel efficiency>
  13-14km/l on highways (I drove carefully with fuel efficiency, though)
  It normally is 9-11km/l, but I'm satisfied considering the size of this car. It can drive 1000km with full tank.

  <price>
  I think it is cheap for this grade vehicle. I'm interested in the one with the engine same as S550, too...

  <overall>
  It has got 350 BlueTech, and the performance and the price is well balanced. Cargo space is bigger than that of LandCruiser, so with the third row seats down, you can put a lot of things in. When I put the seats out on the third row, kids loved them.
  It felt big at first, but I got used to it. The width actually is less than that of LandCruiser, so you'll have no problems.
  I personally liked it, but comparing it with LandCruiser, I chose LandCruiser and traded this in. It's just up to each person's taste.
