An easy car
<exterior>
It is not something I need to mention by now, but the rear design is not as good as the first generation. This front design is ruined by the position of the number plate. If I put it differently, it is pretty close to perfect.<interior>
Is so Mazda with its sporty design. The seating position is low, which makes me feel like, "I'm going to drive!" I think it is made not just to look good but considered driving.<engine performance>
The engine sound is of diesel, but the power feels like that of a regular petrol car with big displacement. I don't feel it is powerful or torqueful, but when I go up the hill, it makes me feel it is easy to drive. It is practical. If you ask me if it is fun to drive this, I would go "it is easy to drive."<drivability>
This is another reason why I wrote "easy" in the title of this review. Probably thanks to GVC, it turns as I want it to.
It supports me well at corners even when my operation on the accelerator was rough. The engine output responds nicely to fine control on the accelerator. It is very easy to control at very low speed. This makes it "easy". I find it very good.<comfort>
The suspension leaves information I need to get, and mild up the shocks. It feels it is working well probably thanks to GVC optimizing the load.
The power seat is good especially when you adjust it to you finely.
What I need to write here is that it has great control of the brakes. It is flexible if you want to make it work strongly or weakly. This is well-done if you drive daily.<fuel efficiency>
N/A.<overall>
In terms of controllability of the brakes, I thought about writing it in performance, but I wrote it in comfort thinking it is less stressful in terms of ride quality and fatigue that I can control easily without getting used to it. I see some people say "it has no problem once you get used to," but as for this brake, you don't require getting used to it.I was able to see that the make was trying to make a car that its driver can actively be involved in driving, but it is easy and fun to drive.
Good!

My impression after driving 5000km.
I got Axela Sports 15XD Proactive (pearl white) delivered in November. I drove 5000km, so I would like to write a review on it.
I drive 25km one way for commuting.
My previous car was bB.<exterior>
It is stylish. I personally think this is as good as European cars. It is one of the coolest cars among Japanese cars.<interior>
I don't seek luxurious feel, so all in all, I am happy with this.
It is a big disadvantage that it doesn't have much storage. But now I don't put too much stuff in the car, so it doesn't get cluttered.
Its interior seems to be used for ABARTH 124 spider, so it might be good as a sport type car.<engine performance, drivability>
1.5L Skyactiv engine fits this body well.
It starts sluggishly probably because the front is too heavy, but I am not doing a race, so I have no problem with it.
What I was impressed the most is strong acceleration when it runs straight. The response is very pleasant.
I drive on winding roads as I go to work, but I don't feel I am swayed as much as I did with my previous car. I can feel G vectoring is working well. Also, probably thanks to G vectoring's assist at corners, it doesn't slip on icy roads. Tires I am using are second hand ones, so I don't think it is thanks to the grip of the tires.<comfort>
Some peple seems unhappy with the headrest, but I don't mind it at all. It feels odd when I recline the driver seat, so if you don't recline it much, it should be fine.<fuel efficiency>
I drive for commuting. As it is a road in rural area with not many traffic lights and is a long distance travel, it is about 18.5km/l. This uses diesel, too, so I think the cost performance is good.<misc.>
I am happy with its safety performance. The visibility at the sides and the back is bad probably because they attached importance to the design, but it has blind spot monitoring, so I can drive with no problem. From the same reason, it definetly needs a rear view monitor.<overall>
I chose my previous car for its luggage room, so it may not be a good idea to compare them, but personally, this is perfect.
As other people say, this makes me feel like driving even when I have no reason to do so. This makes driving fun.
I chose this for its exterior, but this makes me realize I actually like driving.
This has a high completion level for this class car.Good!

Not enough debugging for the newest technology.
<exterior>
It is too orthodox. It is not unique, but it is good design that I don't get tired of.<interior>
Considering its price range, this is more than passable. Mazda Connect has too much bug.<engine performance>
It uses 1.5L regular petrol, so going over 80km/h, the fuel consumption drops rapidly.<drivability>
The performance of the chassis, the response of the steering, the response of the suspension are the same as Impreza.<comfort>
No matter how long I drive, I don't get that tired.<fuel efficiency>
Bad.
It might be partly because it is 4WD, but it is 11km/l in town, 18km/l for long distance travel. It is a little less than 15km/l for cruising on expressway at 100km/h.<overall>
The basic performance of the car is definetly one of the best, but I do feel system debugging is not quite enough. I wonder how they could decide to relase as it is.
I think Mazda's attitude in checking before selling is not good enough; I see some people point out that they knew the problem of 1.5L diesel engine of Demio, but put the same engine on Axela before recall (they recalled them with Demio at the same time).Having said that, the basic performance of the car is good. If you don't mind what I have written above, it is a good idea to buy.
Good!

A good car that even I, a fussy driver, is happy with.
I am writing a review as I have done 5,000km.
<exterior>
Its face looks heavier than before the facelift. I like it. When the headlights are on, LED headlights line can be seen from the sides, and my friends and family say it's cool, too.<interior>
My friends who owns foreign cars say that this is as good as a foreign car.It doesn't have much storage for bits and bobs. You can solve this problem by getting a side pockets to put on side of seats. There are 2 drink holders each for the front and the back.
The boot is very big. Because I have put a mat made of rubber, things don't slide. Great.
<engine performance>
1500cc petrol engine. The engine roars when it goes up the hill with several adults in the car, but the sound is excellent! I fell in love with its excellent tuning of the engine, so I decided on this though I originally was intending to buy XD.After traveling 5000km. I never felt this powerless. It does good on mountains and on expressways. Axela after the facelift has sports mode. I thought it is only to change the timing for the gear change, but it is not; it accelerates powerfully.
<drivability>
G-Vectoring Control is excellent. I replaced my sports car with this, so I was worried how this would do on mountains, but I was pleasantly surprised that I don't get stressed with this at all. My children and my wife in the back seat never get motion sickness. They said they didn't get tired even after long distance travel.<comfort>
This is excellent, too. I am hesitating to go for bigger wheels as this is so good.Passenger sitting at the back can put their feet under the front seat. It is well made for this grade.
It is firm like other Mazda cars, but the passengers don't feel uncomfortable with this. This is well done.
<fuel efficiency>
I have traveled 5000km for commuting in town, suburban area and in a mountain, and it has done 17.8km/l. When I calculate it from full tank, it is over 17km/l. It is a petrol car. Amazing.If I use cruise control more often or change the gear to 6th using the paddle shifter once it picks up speed to cruise, this would improve.
<overall>
Good design.
A lot of advanced equipment.
Good fuel consumption,
Good price.Good!

Amazing!!
<exterior>
Just amazing! I totally fell in love with this and I decided to get this. I was amazed that they realized Kodo -soul of motion design and sold this. Domestic C-segment cars cannot beat this. Now it's been three years from its debut, and the design started to get less unique, but other makes still cannot catch up with this.<interior>
It is simple and excellent. I like it. Some European cars had on-dashboard monitors, but I think this is the first for a domestic car. It is up to each person's taste, but with on-dash monitor, it is easy to look at the monitor for GPS or rear view camera, so I find it very easy to drive. Also, it gives more choice in design.<engine performance>
The fuel efficiency is very good. With the aircon off, it does about 14km/l. I think this is great for a car with 2L engine. But it doesn't feel powerful at any speed.<drivability>
I think this does the best at winding roads. This is not for driving on expressways or when the tires squeal. As a public car, the suspension is excellent, and it catches road surface well. But personally, I prefer damping force at the rear and the spring rate to be bigger.<comfort>
I think this is great for 18inch tires with 45% oblateness. I can say that Proxes T1S is great, though. Suspension is not disturbing the tires, and working well.<price>
This is reasonable.<overall>
The car I have always wanted past several years was released; I'm very happy. Mazda is not as big as Toyota, so they must have made a great effort.
It runs, turns and stops. This is normal for a car to do, but recently, there are not so many cars that can do this. I don't need a sports car that can be too much, but this is a fun car to drive. That's Mazda's Axela.Good!

It's been 6 months since purchase.
<exterior>
I was thinking getting this attracted to the exterior before facelift, but I came to like the look after facelift when once I got used to it.<interior>
It is sportier than the minivan I used to drive. I like it. It is not a luxury car, so considering the price, I have no complaints. There is no cheapness in the sound of the door closing.<engine performance>
Compared to a MT car with over 200 horsepower I used to own, it does feel powerless, but this is enough for driving at a little faster than the speed limit. On mountains, it drives powerfully with the strength of MT.<drivability>
It drives very stably. I don't feel nervous on straight roads or at corners. I don't know if it is thanks to GVC, but it grasps road surface firmly.<comfort>
It has 18inch aluminum wheels. I don't get uncomfortable vibrations while driving. I never got complaints from passengers either.<fuel efficiency>
I drive this for commuting. It did up to 18km/l while breaking it in, but it does about 17km/l in summer and it dropped to 16km/l in winter. Considering it as a 1.5L MT car, cost performance is very good.<overall>
With my previous car with over 200 horse power, I needed to be careful in how to operate the accelerator on public roads, but Axela 1.5L never jumps out even when I press the accelerator hard. It works smoothly, so it is easy to control. This must be what people say unity of a man and a car. There are some parts I want them to improve with Mazda Connect, but other than that, this car had everything I wanted. I would like to keep driving for 10 years.Good!

Excellent C-segment.
It's been about 6 months since purchase, so I am writing a review.
<exterior>
People have different taste, so I am not writing here. I love it, though.<interior>
I don't know why they decided to go for piano black plastic parts. I really don't like it. Are they saying I need to keep gloves on all the time? Are they into collecting fingerprints? Honestly, I really would like to ask the person who decided on this material why they chose this.Interior's basic design and layout are simple. It is better than being cluttered, but it is far from being sporty or having high-end feel either. I think it won't change even when I cover this with leather. This has nothing unnecessary about it and is practical. The meter easy to see, display and switches easy to operate, the seat and pedal that are not tiring are all well made and have good texture. If I point out its disadvantage in terms of usability, it would be its GPS system.
All in all, if the make wants to go for luxurious cars like they are saying they are heading to, they are still developing. However, considering its price range and practicality, this is more than enough.
<engine performance>
2.2L diesel engine on this car probably was designed to be on bigger cars like Atenza or CX-5. This probably gives it leeway in its run.
With the characteristic of diesel engine that achieves torque at low rpm, it picks up speed even when I don't press the accelerator much; it is rare for a car in this segment. It is a merit that cannot be acquired easily; it accelerates without pressing the accelerator much or running the engine much.
Also, it is natural but it uses diesel for fuel, so the cost for fuel is good. At the moment, I don't think there are engines better suited for long distance travel than this. Some people say the noise is a drawback, but the noise is not actually coming from the engine, so it is not a big deal.<drivability>
It runs well, turns well and stops well. No problem, of course.<comfort>
There are no disadvantages like knock up feel. It tames bumps well, too. What I am not happy is its road noise. I want them either to add some sound deadening material or go for comfort tires.<fuel efficiency>
It uses diesel.<overall>
As there were no items to write under, I write about its safety here. The performance of safety equipment has been improved a lot, and it now has achieved the best result in the test. It is better if I don't need to depend on them, but it definitely is good when it is high in performance. So this car, which is rather rare, has not only great design, engine performance and great fuel consumption but also has the best safety performance. This is just amazing. So if you are after a car in C segment and doesn't worry about narrowness inside the car, I would like to recommend this with confidence. Having said that, there are no one like that around me. Disappointing. But I am happy, so I have no complaints.Good!

I am very happy with this.
It's been three months since delivery. This is easy to drive and achieves high satisfaction level.
I replaced Demio with this, so it feels it is a lot bigger. I got a front parking sensor.
I would like to cherish this.
Good!

Traveled 1000km in 2 months.
<exterior>
Mazda's Kodo -soul of motion design is still cool. The reason why I chose Mazda car is its exterior. Especially I was attracted to CX-3, but Axela got cooler after facelift with heavier front. It is almost like a European car. But I am a little embarrassed to drive a foreign car or a luxury car, so this "cool popular car" fit me perfect.<interior>
Elegant and old-fashioned. It doesn't get affected by change of age. Recent cars are roomy and multi functional, and I do think it is good, too, but this one is simple and has proper car look. I never feel it to be cheap. As for roominess, Demio and CX-3 were too narrow, but when it is as big as CX-5, it is tiring to drive, so I decided on Axela.<engine performance>
I don't know much about cars, but I have driven kei cars, Vitz, Prius and Demio XD as a business car, and I find Axela by far the best. Because now I have put studless tires, it feels a little heavy, but it is not powerless, and has smooth acceleration. 1.5L is enough, well, I actually don't understand the value of those who want more than that. Having said that, I am not happy with knocking sound as the engine starts with my petrol version. I wonder if this continuous noise can be solved. Well, I heard it gets a lot of oxygen and burn it, so every time I hear this noise, I try to tell myself that the car is trying hard.<drivability>
I have no complaints with its basic performance of running, turning and stopping. Amazing Mazda, which is known for its drivability. I can enjoy driving, and driving is easy with this. People say it is difficult to grasp its size because of the design. Because I am not confident in driving, I put the seat higher as I drive. I drive narrow streets where only one car can go through for commuting, but I don't get annoyed. You would need a rear view monitor, though.<comfort>
The seat is hard and firm. I feel supported rather than held in the seat. Each person would feel differently, but it fits me well. Because it is low in height, it has less shakes, and I get less tired. I don't get irritated as I get in and out though this is low. Everyone has different taste, but I think it is thanks to my seating position adjusted high.<fuel efficiency>
I mainly drive this car for commuting in town for 10 minutes (20 minutes return), and I drive trying to be fuel efficient. It does about 13km/l... I wish it did better. I hope this is better than its rival, Impreza.<overall>
I am very happy with this. When you only think about convenience, fuel efficiency and utility cannot be said that they are good, but I don't mind it at all; it is cool. Because I am happy with it, I don't mind its disadvantages. I would like to cherish this car.Good!

Review by Japanese user Feb 26, 2016
The best car.
I bought this for family holiday and golfing.
Before purchase, I wanted a relatively new C segment car, and I wanted to choose either VW Golf or Volvo V40. These two were very good cars, but I decided on Axela in the end because Axela Sports matched the best with my ideal transmission, sound and maintenance.
Firstly, as for transmission, these two cars use twin clutch, and they had direct feel after acceleration, but it seemed it would take a while for me to get used to their slow start from complete stop. Especially, I experienced some scary moments with Golf when it restarted from idle stop waiting for right turn. I drive in town often, so Axela's obedient acceleration with reciprocating engine and smooth restarting from idle stop gave me good impression.
As for sound, I thought Golf's was out of question. V40 had good sound, but even comparing with it, Axela's BOSE is excellent.
Also, because it is a Japanese car, I don't have to worry about maintenance.<exterior>
Like all other owners are saying, I don't get tired of looking at it. Especially its look from the rear is outstanding.<interior>
Other two cars I have mentioned might be better here. As for the front seat, this has texture as good as other two. The rear seat looks average and has a difference with the front. Some say perforated leather seat is slippery, but I got used to it while driving.<engine performance>
I don't remember any cars which are this fun to turn at corners. And this is not small!
People point out bad visibility at the back, but because the side mirrors are well made, I don't mind it much.<comfort>
It is rather hard, but is good. When I read the reviews with 1.5, it seems it is better, so I would like to try going down by inch.<fuel efficiency>
It is about 12-13km/l both in town and on expressways.<price>
I don't know any cars with better cost performance than this.<overall>
Run, comfort, high texture, stability and safety. This is a best balanced car in anyway.Good!

XD MT (I have had this for two years)
All in all, this is a good car. Having said that this may be unsatisfactory when you think about its price to be over 3,000,000yen easily. I think this is the reason why it gets bad reviews from users of 1.5L.
Because I haven't driven either 1.5L or 2L, I don't know about its run, but as a car you can buy for 2,000,000yen, 1.5L is amazingly great in terms of design and high-end feel.
That makes me think, though, that XD should have more special feel to it for its exterior and interior. It would have been better if it had specialized aero parts, aluminum wheel design and that to excite its drivers before getting in; not just a red line.As for performance, I think I am only using 30% of its power as I drive this car for commuting mainly on straight national roads. Having said that, I still find the strong acceleration as if I am pushed from behind from mid speed pleasant. Once I go on expressways, this makes me think this is too good for its price. As it has been said, this engine has character as a long tourer. (When I go for a long distance travel, I use our family car, so I sometimes drive this car for no reason just to enjoy its performance.)
What I am least happy about this car is its engine sound. I don't mind rattling sound for daily use, but the sound adjusted with Bose speaker is not satisfactory. If this was a model to enjoy joy of driving, it should have had sportier taste. Or is this the limit of diesel?
It is natural, but the evaluation on cars depends on each user. I would evaluate this more highly, too, if this was the only car in our household. Design, acceleration, comfort, equipment and fuel efficiency; this certainly has achieved all these in high level.
Good!

It is very fun
<exterior>
I personally love this design. I chose gray. It looks cool and I find it very good.<interior>
It is not that roomy, but it should have no problem. You can have bigger luggage room when you recline rear seats. I have no problem in using Mazda Connect so far. But it took a while till I got used to it.<engine performance>
It pulls the car powerfully with second speed. It is quiet, too. Pleasant.<drivability>
Its steering is obedient. I can feel the unity of a car and a man.<fuel efficiency>
14-16km/l in town.<comfort>
I have no problem in driving long distance.<price>
This price for this equipment is a bargain.<overall>
I think this is a well balanced car. What I have to write about it is its steering. It is fun to drive this car.Good!

It's been a year and a half since I got 15S
It's been a year and a half. It's traveled about 18,000km.
<exterior>
It's been a year and a half, but it still looks cool. I think this is the best among cars with Kodo design. I chose titanium flash mica, and it looks classic!
<interior>
This is 15S, so it doesn't have a head up display. It is simple. I think it could have been a bit more flashy.
People are talking a lot about Mazda connect. Mine has got frozen several times, too, but it is its charm. I think GPS system is still usable.<engine performance>
1.5 engine starts sluggishly. It feels powerless on uphill, but it has no problem for driving normally. It runs well, and it travels comfortably on expressways.<drivability>
It feels stable driving straight or turning corners. It drives smoothly. This is a fun to drive car.
This cruise control is not of radar, but this is still usable.<comfort>
It is comfortable.
I don't mind shocks on gaps, but it gets big road noise, so I am thinking the solution.
<fuel efficiency>
It is about 17-19km/l on expressways. 11-13km/l in town. I wish it did better in town.<price>
I think this is reasonable.<overall>
I added factory installed options like discharge and RVM with Grade 15S, and got dealer installed option like paddle shifter.
When I bought this, 15ST was not released yet; if it was, I would have bought 15ST which has a lot of safety equipment. But I am satisfied with 15S, too.
Reversing camera and auto retractable mirrors are useful!Good!

My father and I both have the same Axela
<exterior>
My father bought Axela 20S as he retired. I fell in love with its styling, and bought the same model.
People say recent Mazda cars have similar design, but each model has unique individuality.<interior>
It has red stitching here and there, and it has both sportiness and high-end feel. It is not so good that it doesn't have much storage…<engine performance>
2.2L clean diesel for this size has leeway in its run.<drivability>
My previous car was RX-8, and they have totally different power output. I still am not used to this car, and it is hard to feel actual speed, which is a little scary.<comfort>
It has softer suspension than the previous car, but it is firm moderately. It suits with the character of this car.<fuel efficiency>
I am not happy with it here. It is about 13-15km/l. I try to travel 600km with full tank. I am happy that it only costs less than 4,000yen to fill it up at this stage.<price>
N/A. I got it second hand.<overall>
I was transferred to different prefecture, and the maintenance cost of RX-8 got too expensive. So I replaced it with this sadly.
It fits me who wants everything. I would like to enjoy long distance travel which I couldn't do much with RX-8.Good!

It really is a fantastic car
<exterior>
It is up to each person's taste, but I am totally in love with this form which makes me glad I got it every time I see it. I didn't care about it much before purchase, but I like it more now. I wonder why.
I am glad I chose this grade which I can feel the improvement of leather support.<interior>
I drive Atenza wagon before facelift for work. Even though Axela came on the market before this, I am happy with this interior. Especially Active drive display is very convenient as I don't have to drop my eyes.
I prefer Atenza's seat, though. Also, it was a pity that it didn't have anything on where I place my left foot. I got a floor mat type sheet on Amazon.<engine performance>
As it has smaller displacement compared to my previous car, it is hard to feel uplifting feel physically, but considering it has 15L, this is doing average.
As for mission, it connects better than Atenza's diesel, and I don't feel unwanted engine braking. Personally, I find this engine and mission satisfactory.<drivability>
I am driving with 16inch tires as I felt uneasy when I tried CX-3 with 18inch tires.
Because I customized in the way I like with my previous car, my family was not at all happy about it. But with Axela, they don't complain even when three of us are in the car; it is providing us peaceful ride quality for us.
Having said that, it might be only this model, but the feel of the power steering wheel is different from Atenza, and when I steer while the car is stopping, I can feel resistance.
Other than the odd feel I have written above, this has the greatest suspension. It basically turns well and stops well. It is an average Axela sports.<comfort>
As I have written above, the setting to suit 16 inch 60 tires is not too hard or soft, and it is showing the ride quality which I like.
I am intending to drive this car fully normal, but I might change the tires to the ones of 55% in oblateness. But then I would feel like lowering the height. I wonder if I could resist the temptation.<fuel efficiency>
I didn't expect it to have good fuel efficiency, but at this stage with the distance-travelled 1,500km, it is about 12km/l for using it for commuting and working. It does 17km/l on expressways, so I am looking forward how well it will do from now on.<price>
A lady from the dealer worked hard so I was able to buy this car with the price I can fully accept. I only can thank her for offering this price for the car with this many safety equipment. As it is home territory of Mazda, I thought I wouldn't get much discount, but I tried hard following the information on the Internet.<overall>
At first, I thought I didn't mind getting a used one, and looked for the one I like on the Internet or auctions from last September. But I realized there is not much difference with new ones for this model. I appreciate Axela which makes me think I did a good choice going for a new car after 18 years.
All recent Mazda cars look beautiful, but thinking the everyday usability, this class is the most suitable.
I would like to enjoy driving Axela for another 10 years or over.Good!

I can drive pleasantly
<exterior>
It depends on your taste. I find this design good.<interior>
It is simple. OK.
I am not happy with its not enough storage and how rear seats are divided, though.<engine performance>
2L, front-wheel-drive. It has the same engine as my previous car, so this surely is comfortable. It accelerates smoothly on expressways and in mountains.<drivability>
It drives as it is steered. Pleasant.<comfort>
It feels a little hard, but I don't mind the 18inch tires.<fuel efficiency>
It does 15km/l easily if driven only on expressways. It does at least 10km/l in town, too.<price>
It does feel it is a little too expensive.<overall>
I think it is a good car. I am not happy with its GPS system, though.Good!

3months since delivery. My impresion after driving 3,500km
<exterior>
Each person has different taste, but I think this is perfect. I chose from Axela, Impreza and Shuttle, but I decided on Axelra for its exterior. Not only Axela but all Mazda's recent cars have great design.<interior>
It is well united with good taste. It is easy to operate, too. Mazda has bad reputation but it has no problem for me. But I am not happy with its lack of storage. I wish there was a space to place a smartphone on aircon operation panel.
I wonder why USB port is located inside the console box.
Active driving display reminded me of S13 Silvia, which I used to drive. I was thinking it is no use, but with it, I don't have to drop my sight. I no longer see the meter hood.<engine performance>
It is totally different from my previous car (former generation Premacy). It has enough power as a family car. This is not the car to seek speed, so this is enough.<drivability>
Accelerator and brake has good response. It has no problem as a family car.
Radar cruise control is very useful. Eyesight 3 and TSSP probably have better performance, but as this is my first experience of radar cruise control, this is good enough.
But because I drive worrying about idm, I don't think I am driving this to its maximum performance.<comfort>
Because it has 18inch wheels, it catches bumps of roads and it does get road noise. But it is not uncomfortable. If you ask me if it needs 18inch wheels, I would sat it may not be necessary.<fuel efficiency>
13.6km/l according to fuel consumption meter. This is better than my previous car, and this is not a car to seek good fuel efficiency, so I am happy.<price>
When I bought previous model Premacy, I had an image of Mazda giving big discounts. I didn't get much discount, but it is well done for 3,000,000yen drive away.<overall>
My 14-year-old daughter was not interested in cars, but she loves this and now she says she would like this when she gets a license. I am not 100% happy, but I think it is a good car. Impreza and Shuttle were my other choices, but I'm glad I chose Axela. I bought a flashy red car when I'm over 40, but I am regretting a little that I didn't go for manual transmission.Good!
