About Honda RS150

The most stylish underbone in Metro Manilla: Honda RS150

The market for underbones is alive and kicking. The customers favor them over traditional bikes, and they enjoy brisk demand and steady sales riding on their strengths. Their practical design, light-body, economical price, and fuel efficiency are some of the reasons for their ever-growing success. The roads of Metro Manilla are teeming with underbones and new players keep entering the market to try their luck, lure customers, and earn loads of money.

Lately, a new variety has emerged amongst the underbones. We can call it a sub-class of underbones, namely sporty-underbones. They attract youngsters, students, young professionals, and people who want a kick out of their ride, the so-called Generation S. They also want a bike that is not heavy on the pocket and is lightweight as well. Sporty underbones are the answer to all their racing desires.

No wonder that sporty-underbones are riding high on roads these days.

Ride the true star of the road:

Honda is an established brand of cars and motorcycles. It has a global reach and an impressive array of models in both cars and motorcycles to suit to every segment of the society. It continues to enthrall us with its underbones range too. The RS150 that we are reviewing in this piece is a bigger and bulkier edition to its predecessor: the RS125. It has a diminutive appearance and may come across as just another underbone. But do not be fooled by the size of the bike. It may look small but it thinks big and acts big too. This is because RS150 derives its features and its inspiration from big Honda racing bikes. It also carries a MotoGP inspired engine that is testimony of its strength and agility. The RS150 is amazing to look at and is great to ride too. You will be floored by the slick and stylish contouring of this machine and a performance to match. The cool graphics, striking colors and stripes are all reminiscent of racing bikes. This underbone is a star among all its contemporaries and its users swear by it. The young and happening breed of Filipino drivers, the so-called Generation S has taken fancy to this bike and is a hit among them. They love it for its performance, style, quality, and innovation. We will give you all the information you need to know about this incredible looking underbone and see if it truly matches all the hype surrounding it.

Brace yourself for an exhilarating time with this underbone:

The Honda RS150 packs a powerful MotoGP-inspired 149.16cc 4-stroke, 4-valve, DOHC, liquid-cooled engine. It is capable of producing 11.5 horsepower at 9000 rpm and a maximum torque of 13.5Nm at 6000 rpm. It is enough to ensure a thrilling and fast ride and is also among the most powerful in its class. You will love the way it responds to your commands. It is just waiting for you to let it go and take you on a joyride. It can reach a maximum speed of 140 kmph which is very impressive. Do take the precautionary measures while testing its top speed as it just bolts away at the word go. It performs optimally and ideally at a cruising speed between 40-70 kph. You will notice it grumbles at a low speed begging you to press the throttle. It has a 4.3 liters' fuel tank that will take you places as the mileage clocks in at a decent 52 kmpl. If you are going at a faster pace it will settle around 35 kmpl which is not bad either. The engine follows the latest Euro-2 standards in emission control. It is eco-friendly with a minimal level of emission. The bike itself runs on unleaded gasoline. The engine functions under the programmable fuel injection (PGM-FI) system. It allows for a controlled supply of air and fuel to the engine resulting in lesser fuel consumption and lesser emission. The bike has a light frame and weighs at 111 kg. This makes it easy to maneuver and control. The overall dimensions (length x width x height) of the bike are 1,941x699x977mm It has the option of both kick or electric starting. The ignition system is fully transistorized. The power of the engine is transmitted using an efficient 6-speed constant mesh gear system. It uses a 12V battery to power itself to get going. There are hydraulic disc brakes both for the front and the back wheels. An automatic cooling system keeps the engine from heating because it is a powerful engine that is susceptible to heating. Honda has fitted in a modern radiator cooling system with an automatic electric fan that turns on whenever the engine temperature crosses a certain threshold (103 degrees). The suspension is top-notch as the bike loves to speed and the humps and bumps do not get in the way. The front suspension is telescopic fork while the rear has a swing arm-mono-shock suspension system. Overall, the bike comes with a host of impressive features and specifications that promise a robust quality and a reliable performance.

Arguably the best-looking underbone around:

One look at RS150 confirms that it is stunning to look at. You will want to have another look at it. It's edgy, it's elegant, it's sporty, it's aggressive and it's sleek. It is difficult to put this bike in one category. You can perceive it in your way and still fall in love with its looks. This is probably the biggest achievement of its designers that they have created something that is loved by all. The vibrant colors and the striking patterns they are used to add to its appeal. It is available in three colors: Black, Winning Red, and Space Magenta Metallic. You can get the color combinations of your choice upon paying a certain fee. In this, you will get different color options for the wheels, engine, and the body. The Winning Red is the most expensive among all the available colors by the way. The black alloys and engine cover with red color is the cheapest color scheme. The Repsol variant of RS150 has a very vibrant color scheme to offer. It comes with orange wheels, titanium color engine, red rear shock absorbers, and some HRC stickers. The angular shaped headlight that is powered by LED and is automatic, gives this bike its definitive look. The side indicters have seamlessly meshed inside the headlight housing. This gives it a very molded and modeled look. The shape of the headlamp is sure to appeal to anime lovers as it resembles the head of a Gundam robot. As it cannot be coincidental so we think it is a smart move by the designers as the younger lot will take fancy to it which is also the target market for this underbone. The digital speedometer is standard in all variants and has a backlit orange light for improved visibility. The gear indicator is also meshed in the digital speedometer, a nice help for beginners. Besides, all of its indicators are digital. This includes the gear indicator, fuel indicator, RPM, trip meter, and speedometer. The wheels have Y-shaped cast alloys and the brake rotors are overly big to probably add some sturdiness to the slim profile of the bike. The bike runs on tubeless tires having a flat base. The front tire's size is 70/90-17 M/C 38P and the rear tire's size is 80/90- 17 M/C 50P. The wheelbase dimensions are 1275mm. There are ample air vents in the body of the bike to help the air pass through and improve the aerodynamics of the bike. It also looks good. Just like the headlight the tail light also has sharp cuts and lines. It complements the headlight in design and sportiness. The turn signals are also integrated into the tail light just like in the case of the headlight. The seat is typical of a racing bike. It is narrow and is hard. You would want to replace it if you intend to travel on a longer route. However, for young and physically fit drivers this would not pose much of a problem. The narrow width of the seat gives the rider a somewhat alert and upright position. Given that it is a racing bike; this was but expected. The pillion step is also well designed keeping in view the sporty edge of the bike. It looks very hip but at the same time is practically giving the pillion rider a comfortable posture to rest feet. The bike also comes with a security feature, an auto secure key shutter. It effectively conceals the keyhole once you lock the handlebars. To lock the bike, you need to turn the ignition to the left, and tilt the handle bar to the left side too, then you need to push the ignition to the left again and pull out the key. The bike locked now. The bike will also not start unless the gears are in neutral position. Another interesting safety feature in the RS150 is the bank angle sensor or the rollover sensor. Basically, when the bike flips over and falls on either side, it will automatically shut itself off. To re-start it you will have to turn off the ignition and then turn it on. It won't turn on without turning the ignition off first. On the whole, we think RX150 is a well-styled underbone with a lot of oomph and panache.

Speed away in style:

The RX150 is agile, quick, and lively. It has the credentials of a bona fide sports bike. It is easy to handle and navigate through narrow city streets. As we mentioned earlier, it has a light chassis and you won't feel like dragging it. The tire base has been deliberately kept narrow which is 70/90-38P and 80/90-50P for the front and the rear tires respectively. This makes leaning quite easy. It has narrow clip-on handlebars. Due to them, the rider has to tuck in his shoulders while driving. This limits the drag quotient of the bike and adds to its speediness. The height of the seat (764mm) makes for a very tight position for the rider. However, for a sports bike, it will do. On the left side of the handle, bars are the head light's dimmer switch. You can adjust light as high beam and low beam according to your requirement. Then there is the horn, and the turn signal switch buttons. In the older models, the turn signal switch was not positioned below the horn button. This new configuration of buttons can be confusing for new drivers. On the right side of the handlebar is the starter button. Because of the modern automatic headlight on the feature (AHO) you will not find any headlight switch here. The ground clearance is at a very reasonable and practical 140mm. The suspension is well-matched with the speedy performance of the bike. The bumps and humps on the road are well-absorbed makings for a comfortable and somewhat smooth ride. When in speed, the bike seems like jumping this is also kept in check by the smooth suspension of the machine. The braking is also on point. There is no ABS, but the disc brakes provided at the front and rear (296mm at the front and 190mm at the rear) are efficient and on point. The braking needed to be perfect as the bike has a powerful engine with a penchant for speed. You will have no problems negotiating sudden or unexpected braking. However, we do feel that the presence of ABS would have enhanced the security profile of the bike. In less than ideal road conditions, the braking could prove to be risky. It has a twin perimeter frame and the engine rests on it.
