'Budget-Friendly' iPhone 9 Plus with a 5.5-inch Screen is Also Coming

The Plus variant of the hotly-anticipated iPhone 9 lineup is also set to be powered by Apple's 2019 chipset, the A13 Bionic.

A new report now suggests that the much-awaited iPhone 9 won't be launching alone. The latest development reveals that Apple is also working on a Plus variant, which is likely to debut with a 5.5-inch screen. Dubbed as the iPhone 9 Plus, the said iteration will also be powered by the company's A13 Bionic chipset, the same SoC that is tipped to fuel the vanilla iPhone 9.

iPhone 8 series

The same report revealed that some iOS 14 code confirmed the existence of the iPhone 9 Plus. Additionally, the forthcoming iPhone 9 series is slated to replace the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus, both of which debuted in 2017 as Apple's cheapest entries from the iPhone lineup.

The heated anticipation which surrounds the iPhone 9 and iPhone 9 Plus is as justified as it is expected. The market has always been welcoming to cheaper iPhones, as evidenced by the strong demand for the iPhone 11 and iPhone XR, with the latter eventually clinching the title as the "best-selling iPhone to-date." Nevertheless, the reception of the iPhone 9 series remains to be up in the air as it is unclear at the moment whether the crowd will be that enthusiastic on new iPhones whose design is based on dated aesthetics.

iPhone 9 and iPhone 9 Plus Rumored Features and Specifications

iPhone 9 Concept

Both the iPhone 9 and iPhone 9 Plus are speculated to sport Apple's TouchID security feature, a biometric option which was last seen on the iPhone 8 Plus, right before the introduction of the company's Face ID debut on the iPhone X.

Previous leaks also suggest that the iPhone 9 and iPhone 9 Plus will be equipped with only one rear camera, akin to the iPhone XR, and the iPhone 8. The said sensor is tipped to be taken from the primary camera in the iPhone 11 lineup.

In terms of pricing, the vanilla iPhone 9 is pegged to carry a starting price tag of USD 399 (around PHP 20,500). But with the projected pricing, expect some of the more sought-after features such as 5G connectivity, to not make it when the series launches.

Apart from the iPhone 9 lineup, Apple is also expected to showcase new products in 2020. Some of these products include the latest iPad Pro models and the iPhone 12, of course. The latter is rumored to introduce a fourth camera, next-generation OLED panels, and bespoke 5G antennas.

The release of the abovementioned Apple products is delayed indefinitely, no thanks to the COVID-19 pandemic, which is now affecting numerous mobile productions.
