iPhone 12 Pro Max Battery Is Smaller Than the iPhone 11 Pro Max!

Apart from RAM, Apple is notorious for leaving out the battery capacity relative to its newest iPhone iterations during its launch. Case in point is the new iPhone 12 Pro Max, whose battery life, alongside its sibling variants - the iPhone 12, iPhone 12 mini, and iPhone 12 Pro - is still a mystery.

Well, not until this week when the truth behind the largest iteration from the iPhone 12 series' battery details finally surfaced in the wild.

A filing with the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology's Telecommunication Equipment Certification Center (TENAA) has revealed that the iPhone 12 Pro Max has a battery capacity of 3,687mAh.

It should be noted that the said battery capacity also matches listings that were discovered on hardware certification platforms in July 2020.

Additionally, the TENAA listing shared that the iPhone 12 Pro Max features 6GB of RAM. This also mirrors the information uncovered in PLIST files, which were included with Apple's Xcode 12.1 beta last week.

This is quite interesting, considering that its predecessor, the iPhone 11 Pro Max, has a larger 3,969mAh cell. It should be noted that the said battery capacity matches listings that were discovered on hardware certification platforms.

Meanwhile, the battery capacities for the rest of the iPhone 12 series' smartphones were also revealed. The listings, this time around, come from Vodafone Netherlands.

Accordingly, the vanilla iPhone 12 and 12 Pro feature 2,775mAh cells. In contrast, the iPhone 11 launched with a larger 3,110mAh battery. The same can be said with the iPhone 11 Pro, which arrived in 2019 with a 3,046mAh battery.

The iPhone 12 mini, on the other hand, has the smallest battery in the bunch. This is to be expected, given its more compact size. The said iPhone only has a 2,227mAh battery. Nevertheless, the "mini's" battery offering is juicier than the new iPhone SE (2020), which has 1,821mAh cells.

While all of these details might be off-putting numerically, Apple was noted to have claimed recently that their newest iPhone 12s have similar battery life with last year's iPhones.

Elsewhere, early reviews of the iPhone 12 and 12 Pro indicated that they couldn't last longer than the iPhone 11 Pro.

Either way, Apple has a lot of explaining to do, mostly if the iPhone 12 mini and 12 Pro Max turn out to be the same in terms of battery performance as soon as they get in the hands of tech reviewers online.
