The ASUS ROG Gaming Phone Now Official with 2.96GHz Snapdragon 845, 90HZ Screen
The newly unwrapped ASUS ROG Phone is evidently meant to wow tech onlookers. But the more pressing question: are its specs enough to outperform the Razer Phone, nubia Red Magic, and BLACK SHARK Gaming Phone?
Gaming phones are recently gaining a significant momentum, all thanks to last year's Razer Phone, the newly unveiled nubia Red Magic and the Xiaomi BLACK SHARK Gaming Phone. But all that spotlight is now slated to go at full throttle as the Taiwanese tech giant ASUS has officially revealed its premium gaming handheld iteration, the ASUS ROG Phone. And what a formidable addition it is!
ASUS is clearly serious about making its ROG phone happen, as its specifications are, without a doubt, top-of-the-line. The unmistakable Republic of Gamers branding aside, the phone comes with the much-needed 90Hz display feature which allows the screen to refresh 90 times per second – rendering vivid animations that should delight gaming enthusiasts. The phone is also powered with the distinctive and speed-binned 2.96GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 845, a chipset that remains unchallenged in terms of speed.
Meanwhile, the ASUS ROG Phone's ambitious display offerings are coupled with an equally massive 8GB of RAM and 128GB or 512GB of internal storage. The groundbreaking device also comes with a "maximum performance" option in which gamers are allowed to experience the speed-binned version of the chipset. This "X Mode" version can be done by simply squeezing the sides of the unit. Similar to HTC's Edge Sense system, this mode produces an interface that changes its hues, apart from its performance. In addition, this mode controls the AeroActive Cooler feature, which is essentially the unit's known fan accessory.
The ASUS ROG Phone boasts an innovation on its phone-edge interactions. Known as AirTriggers, these user programmable offerings keep the screen clear of controls while users experience gaming.
Perhaps the more groundbreaking part of this revelation is the ASUS ROG Phone's offerings on accessories. First off, a clamshell accessory is adorned with a second screen that transforms the unit into a dual-screen device or the "TwinView Dock.".
The ASUS ROG Phone can also provide a real desktop experience with the "Mobile Desktop Dock" which uses the ROG Phone as the core of the PC.
But if you prefer to play using your phone but on a larger screen, ASUS will have the phone covered with the "WiGig Dock" which is pretty much like a Nintendo Switch version for Android.
The ASUS ROG Phone is scheduled to be retailed during the third quarter of 2018. However, pricing of the gaming phone and its array of accessories is yet to be announced.
