About Google Nexus

Google Nexus bringing you the technology of tomorrow

Google Nexus is a series of mobile phones and tablets running on Android OS. Google is the sole proprietor, marketer and support of these devices while Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) aid in development and manufacturing of these devices. Originally, there are four tablet computers and six smartphones that have released so far. Mostly involved in joint ventures, Google has produced Nexus 6 in partnership with Motorola Mobility Nexus 9 tablet with HTC and Nexus Player digital in association with Asus.

The Google Nexus lineup mostly consists of all flagship Android products that are available in Philippines at reasonable pricing. Boosted by Google’s brand image, these devices are making waves among smartphone enthusiasts of the country.

Features of Google Nexus

The Nexus phone lineup consists of six devices each offering different configurations at different types of prices.

Nexus One: Released on January 2010 and manufactured by HTC, this device was based on Android 2.1 Éclair. It had Adreno 200 GPU because of which it lacked the prowess of 2D acceleration rendering. The OS consequently received upgrades to Android 2.2 Froyo, Android 2.3 Gingerbread and finally to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.

Nexus S: This particular model was produced by Samsung and released in December of 2010 and made available in Android 2.3 Gingerbread OS. The OS was later updated to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich and then to Android 4.1 Jelly Bean in 2012.

Galaxy Nexus: Released on December 15, 2011, the Google Galaxy Nexus came loaded with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. Four years after its release, the device stopped receiving updates as no further than Android 4.3 Jelly Bean was deemed necessary.

Nexus 4: This smartphone was developed in associated with LG and released on November 2012. It was the first one from Google to utilize Android 4.2 Jelly Bean updated version and offer wireless charging facility. It has the following important features: 4.7 inches HD IPS touchscreen, 768 x 1280 pixel resolution 1.5 GHz Quad-core Krait processor, 8 or 16 GB internal storage, 2 GB of RAM and Adreno 320 GPU. Camera quality was 8 MP with secondary unit offering 1.3 MP.

Nexus 5: It was manufactured by LG and went on to sale on October 31, 2013 at the Google Play Store. It came preloaded with Android 4.4 KitKat along with the following specifications:

  • Adreno 330 GPU.

Latest news in the Philippines

Moving away from the topic of Google Nexus, the company recently strengthened their security system making the Nexus one of the safest devices to own with the release of their latest patch for Lollipop OS. But unlike iPhone, it is actually the carriers who decide when to actually roll out the upgrades. This feature has been widely criticized world over, but doesn’t seem to be any change on the cards right now. On the other hand, Google has adopted polices to pay hackers of Philippines to break into personal systems and report any bugs found. This is legal and the hackers are rewarded with a bounty.

Popularity in the Philippines

Google Nexus thrives on innovation and support from users in the Philippines region. Google’s larger than life brand name combined with advanced technology makes the series a sure shot success. When it comes to affordability, these models do not cost a price that an average smartphone user may consider expensive. Check out the series for yourself and then decide.
