Blizzard's big foray into the competitive eSports world, Overwatch, just launched its inaugural Overwatch League tournament this week. The competitive team-based shooter has become a huge spectator event, and Blizzard wants to ensure that access to league information is available as conveniently as possible to all eSports enthusiasts. To that end, Blizzard has released the new Overwatch League app, your ultimate source of information for all things related to the Overwatch League.
The new mobile app is available on both Android and iOS, and features things like match schedules, alerts, the latest team standings and team profiles, along with the hottest news, interviews, analysis, videos and live streams of the matches. Blizzard's end goal is to make Overwatch bigger than the hottest properties in eSports, competing with the likes of League of Legends and Counterstrike Go. Unlike the other eSports scenes, Blizzard plans to turn Overwatch League into the NFL or the NBA of gaming, with city-based teams competing against each other for a cool USD 1,000,000 prize (around PHP 50,335,000). Each franchise is guaranteed to pay each player a minimum USD 50,000 (around PHP 2,500,000) annual salary.
For those of you who are following the Overwatch eSports scene closely, the app will prove invaluable both to see the latest team standings as well as to see the actual matches, which can be viewed live or watched later on-demand. The app is free on both Google Play and iTunes Store, and is available in English, French, German, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, Russian, Polish, Korean and Chinese.
If you missed the initial round last Wednesday with games between the Shanghai Dragons vs. the Los Angeles Gladiators and the Dallas Fuel against the Seoul Dynasty, this app can get you up to speed along with professional commentary, interviews and analysis. If you're at all interested in Overwatch and eSports, you may want to take a look at this app as it makes spectating the scene so very convenient.
