Vivo is one of the most competitive brands in the market today when it comes to marketing mid-range selfie-centric smartphones. They've been competing hard with OPPO for the past couple of years in the selfie phone segment, and their latest phone looks like it's really going to up the ante. We've just gotten a teaser image for the Vivo V9 directly from Vivo, showing a man holding an iPhone X-esque device and the caption, "V9 24MP Selfie, Perfect Shot, Perfect View."
That should tell you a lot about what the upcoming phone has in store. We've also gotten some leaked images of the phone, and they definitely took a lot of inspiration from the iPhone X design. Basically, what we're looking at is a phone with a full-screen display taking up almost the entirety of the phone's front face, with the exception of an iPhone X-esque notch at the top where the camera and sensors are housed. Unlike the iPhone X, the phone also has a small strip at the bottom similar to what we've seen on Samsung's Galaxy S8.
The rear of the phone holds a dual-camera system positioned in an elliptical pattern similar to the iPhone X, but unlike Apple's flagship device there's also a fingerprint scanner at the center right above the Vivo branding. The body also looks to be made of metal, and that sounds about par for the course for a mid-range phone in 2018.
There aren't too many reports on the phone's specifications at this point, but the new poster does tell us it'll have a 24-megapixel front camera. This could be the same sensor we have in the Vivo V7, which also sports a 24-megapixel selfie camera. At this point, we can only speculate what resolution and chipset the Vivo V9 will have, but it can't be worse than a Snapdragon 450, and it'll probably be higher than the HD+ resolution of its smaller brother. Our closest guess would be a Snapdragon 660 with full HD+ resolution, but that's getting ahead of ourselves.
We'll find out pretty soon what Vivo has in store, as they wouldn't publish the teaser poster if the launch weren't coming within the following weeks.
