HUAWEI P20 likely to launch at MWC 2018, one variant may feature iPhone X-like notch

The new HUAWEI P-series flagship for 2018 might be called the HUAWEI P20 instead of the HUAWEI P11. The new phone might come in three variants such as the HUAWEI P20, the HUAWEI P20 Plus, and the HUAWEI P20 pro. Interestingly, the latter one will come with an iPhone X-like notch. The P20 series is rumored to break cover at the MWC 2018 scheduled from February 26 to March 1.

It is at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) that HUAWEI, world's third largest smartphone vendor, usually unveils its P-series flagship smartphone. It won't be different this year as well since the Chinese manufacturer is reportedly going to launch a new P-series smartphone at the upcoming event, but with a tweak in the moniker.

While it was expected that the company will launch the HUAWEI P11 as the successor to the HUAWEI P10 from last year, it now appears that it will instead be called the HUAWEI P20. As many as three variants of the handset with their schematic design have surfaced on the Chinese microblogging website Weibo having the names: the HUAWEI P20, the HUAWEI P20 Plus, and the more advanced HUAWEI P20 Pro. Worth mentioning, an earlier rumor had also suggested a HUAWEI P20 Lite version.

All the three variants in the Weibo post show differently arranged triple camera modules, probably because the sizes of all the variants might differ. The camera module on the standard HUAWEI P20 is horizontally aligned while on the HUAWEI P20 Plus it is vertically arranged. In both devices the camera module is positioned at the top left corner of the back panel. On the other hand, the vertically aligned triple camera module on the Huawei P20 Pro lies at the center of the rear panel.

As per a reliable source (@evleaks) the forthcoming HUAWEI P20 will feature a whopping 40MP combined camera pixels and the 5x hybrid zoom.

The fingerprint appears to have found a place on the front panel both in the case of the HUAWEI P20 and the HUAWEI P20 Plus. However, it has moved to the back in the case of the HUAWEI P20 Pro due to the lack of space on the front panel.

All the three models are impressively bezel-less phones with the HUAWEI P20 Pro sporting slightly thinner bezels. While the fingerprint sensor is positioned at the back due to the thin lower bezel of the HUAWEI P20 Pro, it also features an iPhone X-like notch housing the front camera, earpiece and different sensors thanks to the near non-existent top bezel. Whether it will have the rumored 3D depth-sensing camera it is not clear from the render as of now.

With the rumors picking up the pace we expect a whole lot of details about the specs of the device along with their prices as they will certainly emerge over the course of the next few weeks. Needless to say, we will update them pronto. Stay tuned.
