ASUS ZenFone Max Pro M1 Launched: 5,000mAh Battery, Dual Cameras, and Stock Android
Keeping an eye on the ever-growing mid-range segment, ASUS has unveiled its ZenFone Max Pro M1 in India. Marked for its hefty 5,000mAh battery, the smartphone has other highlights such as the 18:9 bezel-less design, dual cameras, and stock Android Oreo in tow.
To stay afloat in the competition, ASUS has already launched a couple of notched display smartphones such as the ZenFone 5 ZE620KL and the ZenFone 5Z ZS620KL. But the premium segment aside, there is also a mid-range segment, which needs constant attention of the manufacturers. It seems ASUS is responsive enough to address the need of this ever-growing segment as it reinforced its mid-range lineup with the recent launch of the ZenFone Max Pro M1 in India.
The highlights of the handset include its mammoth 5,000mAh battery, 18:9 aspect ratio bezel-less design, dual cameras, and the stock Android Oreo out-of-the-box. The smartphone has launched as Flipkart-exclusive and the sale of the handset will commence from May 3.
The ZenFone Max Pro M1 is priced at INR10,999 (approx. PHP8,600) for the 3GB RAM+32GB storage model and INR12,999 (approx. PHP10,200) for the 4GB RAM+64GB storage model. The smartphone will be available in Black and Titanium Grey color options.
Offered under the "Complete Mobile Protection Program", the ZenFone Max Pro M1 is covered for broken screen, liquid damage, hardware, software problems, etc. with an introductory price of INR49 (approx. PHP40). For the launch offer, the Vodafone subscribers will get additional 10GB data for one year on the recharge of INR199 (approx. PHP160) or above. Under the exchange program, the buyers can also avail an additional discount of INR1,000 (approx. PHP780).
Talking about the specifications, the ZenFone Max Pro M1 is built around a 5.99-inch full HD+ bezel-less display with 18:9 aspect ratio. Driving the phone is an octa-core Snapdragon 636 SoC mated to Adreno 509 GPU. The storage expansion is up to 2TB via microSD card.
On the photography front, it mounts a 13MP+5MP dual-rear-camera setup along with an 8MP selfie camera on the front. A giant 5,000mAh battery supplies juice to the device. The ZenFone Max Pro M1 runs a pure form of Android 8.1 Oreo - first for any of the ASUS phones to run the stock Android.
ASUS has also announced a 6GB RAM+64GB storage variant of the ZenFone Max Pro M1 with enhanced camera specs, which include a 16MP+5MP dual-rear-camera setup and a 16MP selfie shooter. The scaled-up variant is priced at INR14,999 (approx. PHP11,800), but will be available at a later date.
Given the specs and pricing of the ZenFone Max Pro M1, it seems the Taiwanese company has introduced the handset to take on the hugely popular Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 and the Redmi Note 5 Pro. Though the ZenFone Max Pro M1 brings in interesting specs vis-à-vis its competitors, it remains to be seen how the handset will cut through the intense competition prevailing in the mid-tier segment.
