Microsoft moves into the mobile phone segment with the great ease and success
Microsoft Mobile was formed after the company acquired Nokia's devices and services, in the year 2014. With a ten-year licensing agreement with Nokia, Microsoft has undertaken to sell smart phones with the tag of 'Lumia' that competes with Samsung's Galaxy lineup. In the Philippines, people have given their full trust to this company because they know that a successor of the brand Nokia will never be a fail.
About formation of Microsoft Mobile
In 2011, Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer and Stephen Elop, together and asked that Nokia and Microsoft are to team up with the effect of Nokia adopting Windows phone as its main platform on upcoming smart phones. The deal also included being be used as the default search engine on future Nokia devices. On October 26, 2011, the company unveiled their first Windows 7 based mobile phone with the flagship Lumia 800 model and Lumia 710, which is a mid-range device.
This collaboration, however, did not go well as expected as the company saw a sharp decline in sales that brought them to the position to number 10 from number one, in terms of sales figures. After implementing serious changes of policy and ending about 3500 jobs, the company finally closed one of its most important factories in Romania.
