About Apple MacBook Air

A collection of ultraportable notebooks from Apple Inc, the MacBook Air was first introduced in 2008 and was then promoted as the thinnest notebook in the world. Not only this but the laptop impressed consumers with its sleek yet minimalistic look and premium built.

Popularity in the Philippines

Everything about Apple products shout sophistication which is probably the reason why local consumers continue to be in awe of the MacBook Air. Even with the market teeming with laptops and notebooks manufactured by reputable brands, the MacBook Air is still among the Filipinos top choices despite its high end price tag.

Product Description

The Apple MacBook Air comes in 2 variants: the 11-inch and 13-inch model. Both laptops boast of amazing features, which should not come as a surprise. They include the following:

Design

In terms of look, the MacBook Air is indeed designed to be thin and light. It features a glossy LED backlit display with full sized keyboard and generous-sized trackpad that is quite responsive to multi-touch gestures like swiping, scrolling, three-finger swipe, four-finger swipe, double tap, drag, pinching and rotating. It also supports handwriting recognition of Chinese characters.

On the left side of the 11-inch model, you will find the MagSafe 2 power connector, headphone jack, dual microphones and USB port while the opposite side houses the Thunderbolt and another USB Port. The 13-inch model has an additional SDXC card slot. There is also a webcam on the screen bezel referred to as iSight or FaceTime camera. Storage/Processor/OS

Both models come with 128Gb or 256GB flash storage, the latter being configurable to 512GB storage. They are powered by 1.4GHz Dual Core Intel Core i5 (Turbo Boost up to 2.7GHz) with 3MB shared L3 cache. The processor is also configurable to 1.7Ghz Dual Core Intel Core i7 with a Turbo Boost of up to 3.3GHz and 4MB shared L3 cache. On-board memory is 4GB of 1600MHz LPDDR3 configurable to 8GB.

They run on OS X mavericks, an easy to use yet super powerful processor packed with features. It is touted as the worlds’ most advanced desktop operating system and comes with AirDrop, AirPlay, Dictation, Gatekeeper, Notification Center, Facebook Integration, Twitter Integration, Multiple Display Support, iCloud, iCloud Keychain, Dashboard, Mission Control, Spotlight Search, Safari Power Saver, App Nap, Power Nap, Compressed Memory and Built in Sharing.

Built in applications, on the other hand, include iPhote, iMovie, GarageBand, Pages, Numbers, KeyNote, Maps, iBooks, Safari, Mail, FaceTime, Messages, Calendar, Contacts, Reminders, Time Machine, Photo Booth, iTunes, Game Center, Preview, Notes and Mac App Store.

Connectivity

The MacBook Air notebooks can be connected to other devices via 802.11 ac Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.0 wireless technology.

Camera, Graphics and Video Support

The MacBook Air comes with 720p FaceTime HD camera, Intel HD Graphics 5000, dual display and video mirroring. This means it simultaneously support full native resolution on the built in display and up to 2560 x 1600 resolution on an external display.

Audio

All MacBook Air comes with stereo speakers, dual microphones, headphone port and support for Apple iPhone headset with remote and microphone.

Battery and Power

The 11-inch model boasts of up to 9 hours of wireless web, 9 hours iTunes movie playback and up to 30 days standby time; while the 13-inch model supposedly lasts up to 12 hours of wireless web, 12 hours of iTunes movie playback and 30 days standby time. Each device comes with a power adapter, AC wall plug and power cord.

Pros

In addition to the improved graphics and WiFi ac, the MacBook Air will impress you with its excellent battery life. Of course, there are also the Haswell processors which proved to be reliable in terms of performance. The sleek look of these laptops is also a plus as well as its thin and lightweight built and design.

Cons

For those of you who are used to Apple’s Retina Display, you might feel a bit disappointed since the MacBook Air does not possess such feature. It is also not user upgradeable and comes with limited expansion options.
