Sony PlayStation gaming consoles are a best seller in the market

Sony PlayStation is a series of video game consoles, currently in its fourth generation, developed and marketed by Sony Computer Entertainment. The first PS device appeared in Japan in 1994 and sold over 100 million units worldwide in a span of a little more than 9 years. The popular gaming device was succeeded by the PlayStation 2 in 2000 and is considered to be the most successful gaming console in terms of exclusives and sales figures. It was recorded to have sold over 155 million units as of 2012. Next in line was the Sony PlayStation 3 (PS3) that was launched in 2006 and reportedly sold 80 million units as of 2013. The PlayStation 4 is the current generation console earned the award 'Fastest selling console in history' as it sold 1 million units within 24 hours of release. Sony PlayStation series also has two handheld gaming devices, namely, PlayStation Portable (PSP) and PlayStation Vita that has gained a stable fan following of their own in the Philippines. This PSP has been sold over 80 million units as of November 2013.

Features of Sony PlayStation consoles:

1. PlayStation 1

This console started it all as it brought a revolution to home entertainment. The original PS was equipped with MIPS R3000A 32-bit RISC CPU running at 33.8666 MHz, 2 MB DRAM and 32-bit Sony GPU. This configuration was able to render some of the best rated 3D games such as Crash Bandicoot, Final Fantasy VII, Castlevania Symphony of the night and more than a thousand others.

2. PlayStation 2

The world's most popular console was based on MIPS R5900 "Emotion Engine" CPU clocked at 294 MHZ with cache memory 16 KB, 32 MB of RDRAM and Graphics Synthesizer clocker 147.456 MHZ. Resolution output ranges from 256 x 224 to 1920 x 1080. This device came with two controllers and backwards compatibility with PS. This device is still widely preferred by young games all across the Philippines.

3. PlayStation 3

The PS3 is powered by a Cell microprocessor made up of 3.2 GHz PowerPc, which is based on Power Processing Element and six SPEs. Its GPU is an NVIDIA G70 of 500 MHz clock and RAM is about 256 MB DDR3 clocked at 650 MHZ. Some of the most popular games on this console are uncharted series, God of War series, Last of Us and plenty of others.

4. PlayStation 4

This modern generation console makes use of AMD's APU that combines the best CPU and GPU to bring you super powerful configuration, capable of rendering the most resource intensive games of modern times. This device has a Blu-ray player, and motion controllers maximize immersion in the gaming world.
