LG's one of the few mobile companies that really likes to innovate and try things other companies wouldn't do. LG's latest effort is an expansion of their Friend ecosystem, which they launched with their modular smartphone the G5.
As a world's first, LG is introducing the LG Action CAMLTE, a rugged action camera with the ability to stream your video directly to YouTube all by itself, without the need to tether to a phone or hotspot. The Action CAMLTE will also have remote access functionality which lets you use it as a CCTV camera for home monitoring or as a dashboard camera. You can also download any recorded images or videos to your smartphone directly.
The camera has an IP67 rating as well, meaning it's dust-proof and sand-proof, and can withstand being submerged in one meter of water for up to 30 minutes. It will also have a waterproof case made available later which will make the camera viable for scuba diving or surfing, and you can also get a mount which allows you to attach the Action CAMLTE to your car, bike, surfboard, helmets, and other fast-moving objects.
The camera itself has a 1/2.3-inch lens with 12.3-megapixel resolution. It has a built in LTE/3G/WiFi BGN antenna, and goes with a USB-Type C 2.0 connector as well as Bluetooth. It has 2GB of RAM epandable via microSD cards up to 2TB. The camera can also record video in 1440p at 30fps, 1080p video at 60fps and 720p video at 120fps. Live-streaming is capped to 720p at 30fps. Inside is a 1,400mAh battery that gives the device four hours of Full-HD recording time.
"We are committed to expanding the LG Playground ecosystem with both modules and standalone accessories and Action CAMLTE is one of many more that we plan to announce this year," said Juno Cho, LG Electronics and Mobile Communications Company president. "Action CAMLTE is an example of the kind of innovation we will be bringing to market, devices that offer features unavailable in other competing products."
