About Smart Cars
Smart Cars – The Cars of the Future
Smart Automobile is a German automotive marque and division of Daimler AG, located in Boblingen, Germany. The company produces ranges of microcars and subcompacts, primarily the Fortwo and Fourfour with its primary assembly parts located in Hambach, France, and Novo Mesto Slovenia. They sell their cars within 46 countries in Asia, North and South America, Africa, Australia, and Europe. The idea of the automobile's design proceeds at Mercedes-Benz in the early 70's and 80's. With the help of Volkswagen, the first model was released by Damier-Benz in October 1998. A number of variants on the original design have been brought with the original being the "Fortwo". The name Smart came from the collaboration between Swatch and Mercedes (s+m) and having the eagerness to design an "artful" little car...so the s+m+art = smart was generated.
History of the maker
It all started when Swatch watch inventor Nicholas Hayek took his ideas for his Swatchmobile project to Mercedes-Benz, and a joint venture arises. The engineers of the Mercedes-Benz took on the challenge with a full development car. In 1997, the smart Fortwo vehicle debuts at the Frankfurt Motor Show with an outstanding response which started to the manufacturing of the Fortwo and the "Smartvile" plant in Hambach, France. The Fortwo cars were used in Europe on their small roads and tight parking spaces. In 2006, a second generation of the smart cars Fortwo was released t to the United States and a Smart USA division was formed and is a division of the Penske Automotive Group which was managed by Roger Penske. They are the exclusive trader of the smart Fortwo in the United States, with 74 smart centers settled throughout the country.
Features of Smart Cars
Smart Cars main purpose is to take the passengers to their point of destination as fast whatever traffic conditions that may occur. Both the two and four passenger models are available with a range of options including a fully customized design for the buyers who want completely unique small cars. Here are some exciting features we should expect in each model of smart cars of the future:
This model comes in a coupe version with a solid roof and a cabrio version with a retractable canvas roof. It is powered with a turbocharged 0.9-liter 3 cylinder engine making 89 horsepower and 100 pound-feet of torque, is mounted between the rear wheels. A five-speed manual gearbox is standard and a 6-speed dual-clutch transmission provides automated shifting for those who prefer it. The combined EPA fuel economy is 34 or 35 mpg.
The Smart Roadster is powered by a turbocharged 698cc three-cylinder engine good for 80hp. The Smart Roadster does not have an electric model option, averaged 55mpg with minimal emissions to drive. It weighs just below 800kg that makes the Roadster truly with a stunning power along with its weight ratio.
The Smart Forfour is powered by a 1.0-liter 3-cylinder engine that puts out a humble 52kW and 91Nm of torque. The size of the engine means that it has low running cost but the vehicle's high price counts against it.
Philippine Market Review
Smart Cars are very adventurous and head turner to own in the country as they are unique as Ferraris. There are rarely few cars that we see but they are just imported from another country like Japan because there is no smart car dealer in the Philippines, no official smart mechanics and roughly no parts available too. The Smart cars have been a smash hit in other countries in Europe because it is a very compact car and the most parking-friendly car to fit 2 on a single parking space. It will be a perfect car to drive around heavy-traffic Metro Manila.
