There's a lot of buzz surrounding Xiaomi's new flagship, the Mi 6. A lot of rumors were piling up in the rumor mill, but the official announcement has shown that a lot of them were spot on. The most interesting rumors were how the Mi 6 would be sporting the new Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 chipset and the ones which told of a dual camera array that would make your photographs look even better. Thankfully, both rumors have proven true.
Xiaomi has unveiled the Mi 6 at their Beijing event, and the phone delivers on all the hype. We now have images of the phone in different renders, including a very beautiful blue with gold edges combination that looks simply stunning. Also available are black and white versions that are arresting in their own right. We'd imagine the blue and gold combination is going to get the most attention, but there's also a special full- ceramic back edition with 18k gold rims around the dual cameras, which is bound to be a conversation starter.
The phone itself has a 5.15-inch screen with 1080p Full HD resolution. With the emphasis on design, the Mi 6 has full-on curved glass on the display, which gives it that modern flagship look that was popularized by Samsung. Inside is the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor as promised, with 6GB of RAM and either 64GB or 128GB of internal storage. The other big story is the dual 12-megapixel setup, one wide angle and the other a telescopic focus lens, which will you with those bokeh effect photos that are so coveted in social media circles. There's a 4-axis optical stabilization feature as well, something Xiaomi has gotten pretty good with over the years. A 3,350mAh battery rounds out the package, with a fingerprint scanner under the home button. It's also splash resistant, which means it has something a little below IP67 for protection.
Overall, Xiaomi has gone above and beyond with the Mi 6, introducing a new Aligned Design Concept that focuses on uniform alignment of components, controls buttons, the antenna lines and even the SIM tray. The results speak for themselves and this is the most elegant phone Xiaomi has produced to date.
Xiaomi has priced the phone as follows: 64GB will go for RMB 2,499 (about PHP 18,000), the 128GB version at RMB 2,899 (PHP 20,960), and the 128GB Ceramic edition at RMB 2,999 (PHP 21,680).
