Vivo NEX Is Now Official with An Ultra FullView Display and a Pop-Up Selfie Camera

Vivo makes it clear that it can stand by its own with its new flagship iterations – the Vivo NEX S and Vivo NEX A. Both ditched the idea of featuring a notch and came with an unexpected surprise in the camera department.

Vivo has braved the trend and went against it with its new flagship releases. The Vivo NEX S and the NEX A are now official and came without that glaring feature, a notch, no less. But despite the absence of this trendy component, Vivo has something else to propel its game to another level. A little hint? A game-changing front-facing camera. But we'll get on to that later.

Yesterday, Vivo launched its most anticipated smartphone of the year, the Vivo NEX A and the NEX S.

The more premium of the siblings, the Vivo NEX S, comes with flagship internals and one-of-a-kind features. It's powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 chipset paired with a massive 8GB RAM and 2 internal storage options of 128GB or 256GB with no expandable memory support. The device is encased in a majestic 91.24% screen-to-body ratio and sports a minimal chin right at its bottom. Touted as the "Ultra FullView Display," the screen boasts of a 6.59-inch Super AMOLED panel with FHD+ and a distinctive 19.3:9 aspect ratio. The NEX S also sports the company's groundbreaking technology released earlier this year, the under-display fingerprint scanner.

The Vivo NEX S' glorious display also houses another world's first feature, which is a pop-up selfie camera. Akin to a periscope, the front-facing camera houses an 8MP f/2.0 sensor. Meanwhile, the unit's back sports a dual-camera setup comprised of a 12MP f/1.8 + 5MP f/2.4 unit.

The device is powered by a 4,000mAh battery which comes with a fast 22.5W charger out-of-the-box and is managed by an Android 8.1 Oreo based Funtouch OS 4.0 with AI support.

Similar to Samsung's "Bixby", Vivo also introduced their very own voice assistant called the "Jovi" which also comes with its own dedicated external button on the device. According to the company, Jovi can handle voice commands to launch app amongst other stuff, but we still need more time to validate how good Vivo's voice assistant can perform on a daily basis.

On the other hand, the Vivo NEX A opts with a Snapdragon 710, the newest chipset in town which made its debut on the Xiaomi Mi 8 SE. But unlike the NEX S, the NEX A only features a standard fingerprint sensor located at the back. The device comes with an efficient 6GB of RAM and equally massive 128GB of non-expandable internal storage. Despite the lesser chipset and no under-display fingerprint scanner feature, the NEX A still sports the same impressive display to that of its premium sibling along with the same dual-camera setup at the back and the "elevating" 8MP f/2.0 front-facing camera.

A 4,000mAh battery keeps the lights on while an Android 8.1 Oreo based Futouch OS 4 handles the software part of things.

Both devices also come with a 3.5mm headphone jack and USB Type-C support.
