Samsung releases a new Galaxy Tab A with the Note7 S-Pen
Samsung re-releases its 10.1-inch Galaxy Tab A with S-Pen functionality, turning it into a complete package.
Sep 16, 2016
Samsung released a 10.1-inch tablet a few months back in May. This tablet, the Galaxy Tab A (2016), was actually a pretty well-specified tablet with a lot of the checkboxes ticked for a midrange tablet. The tablet was reasonably well-received, with many comparing it to Samsung's earlier well-loved Galaxy Note 10.1 back in 2014. There was, of course, one major difference: the Note 10.1 had a stylus, and this did not. Well, not to fret, for Samsung has apparently realized the error of their ways and has now released the Galaxy Tab A 10.1 (2016) edition once again, just months after its initial debut, now complete with S-Pen support! It's the same S-Pen everyone loved on the Galaxy Note7, but couldn't have due to exploding issues.
The Tab A is pretty much unchanged from the device that we saw back in May, with the exception of the added S-Pen functionality. It has a 10.1-inch Full HD 1920x1200 resolution screen, an octa-core 1.6Ghz Exynos processor, 3GB of RAM, 32GB of storage, and a microSD slot for expansion up to 256GB. It has full 4G LTE support available, and a large 7,300mAh battery rated for 14 hours of use. At the rear is an 8-megapixel main camera with LED flash, and a 2-megapixel camera up front. It ships with Android 6.0 Marshmallow. The S-Pen will have all the advanced features present on the Note7, giving you the fancy new Air Command with new options like Magnify, Translate, and Glance. You'll also have the new stick note option Create Note, which works much more organically than Samsung's tired old Action Memo. These are all great additions to a good tablet that performed really well in its price range.
Perhaps the biggest concern is the bump in price for adding the S-Pen. The device will be retailing in South Korea for USD 440, or about PHP 20,600. It's a good price for what you get, but the original version that came out in May was only USD 397. For the extra 43 bucks, you get the S-Pen, and a bump in RAM from 2GB to 3GB, and storage up from 16GB to 32GB.
If this sounds like a fair bargain, then the new Galaxy Tab A may be the best 10-inch tablet for you if you like having a stylus with your Android tablet.
