Samsung Galaxy A8 Star outed in the Philippines without any fanfare
Samsung recently unveiled the Galaxy A8 Star in the Philippine market. It turns out that it is the same device which debuted in China four days ago bearing the moniker Galaxy A9 Star. It will start hitting our local market shelves on June 14 for a price of around PHP24,800.
Four days ago, Samsung took the wraps off the Galaxy A9 Star, alongside the watered-down Galaxy A9 Star Lite, in one of the biggest markets in the globe, China. The new smartphone will reportedly start shipping by mid-June. Now, the South Korean tech behemoth quietly launched the Galaxy A9 Star in the Philippines as the Galaxy A8 Star. Apart from the name change, there are no other differences between the Galaxy A8 Star and the Chinese Galaxy A9 Star. Both will have the same design and specs sheet, which means that the Galaxy A8 Star should also sell for just CNY2,999 or around PHP24,800.
As far as specs are concerned, the Samsung Galaxy A8 Star sports a 6.3-inch Super AMOLED display with a resolution of 2160 x 1080pixels and an aspect ratio of 18:9. There exists a dual-camera setup at the back panel comprised of a 16-megapixel sensor with f/1.7 aperture and a 24-megapixel lens having the same aperture and a LED flash. Up front, it has a 24-megapixel selfie snapper with f/2.0 aperture. It comes with a Snapdragon 660 octa-core processor clocked at 2.2GHz at the helm. RAM is 4GB and there's 64GB of internal memory storage on board. You can opt to expand the memory for up to 400GB via microSD card.
Connectivity-wise, the Galaxy A8 Star offers 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11ac, Bluetooth 5.0, 3.5mm audio jack, GPS, NFC, FM Radio, and a USB Type-C port. The smartphone runs on Android 8.0 Oreo-based Samsung Experience interface and packs a hefty 3700mAh cell to keep the lights on. It will be available in just two colors, namely Black and White. It is said to begin hitting the country's market shelves by June 14, while launch in South Korea and Southeast Asia will take place in the coming weeks.
