OPPO's newfound focus on selfie phones may seem disconcerting to some, but it's definitely good business. Following OPPO's launch of the selfie-centric F1s in the country, the Chinese company allotted 19,000 units to the Philippine market, all of which have been gobbled up by eager Filipinos looking to snap the perfect selfie.
It may come as no surprise to the Filipinos who have a penchant for snapping shots of themselves under all conditions, rain or shine, indoor or outdoor, light or dim, the average Filipino smartphone user is always ready to smile for the camera and indulge in some self-aggrandizement. But OPPO was pleasantly caught off guard by the response, and probably regrets not having more units available.
"We never expected that consumers would be this enthusiastic about the F1s. It's overwhelming to know that our first units sold out in three days. We are excited to deliver more F1s units to stores, especially because we want more people to have the ultimate selfie experience," says OPPO Marketing Brand Manager Stephen Cheng.
OPPO currently is in third place for market share in the Philippines, and considering the excellent response that may improve in the near future. The OPPO F1s "Selfie Expert" sports a 5.5-inch display with 1.5Ghz MediaTek MT6750 chipset, a Mali-T860 GPU, 3GB of RAM, 32GB of storage with microSD expansion, dual Nano SIM support, LTE, a fingerprint sensor and a 3,075 internal battery. True to its name, the 16-megapixel front camera is actually more capable than its rear camera, sporting a f/2.0 aperture, a 1/3-inch sensor, and the ability to do 1080p video. The rear camera has a f/2.2 aperture, a 1/3-inch sensor with Phase Detection Auto Focus, and a LED Flash.
The OPPO F1s currently retails for PHP 12,990 and is available in Rose Gold, Gold, and Gray. You can also get it at zero percent interest for six months through Home Credit.
