There seems to be a growing trend in smartphones that are catering to a specific market with a specialty --- like selfies. From the ASUS ZenFone Selfie to the Cherry Mobile Flare Selfie, we are seeing more and more phones specializing in the ever-popular pastime of self-aggrandizement amongst netizens and social media mavens.
Joining that list is OPPO's F1s, and we can only assume that the "s" stands for "selfie." The phone is a "camera smartphone" and OPPO is touting it as a "Selfie-Expert" phone, going so far as to coin the hashtag #SelfieExpert on its Twitter campaign. With the F1s, you can step up your selfie-game!
The device is looking like the successor of last year's OPPO F1. Little is known about the device other than its name, its focus on selfies and its launch date, which is on August 3.
OPPO's F Series has been a very popular and well-received line, with outstanding camera performance and beautiful design. We can expect to see the same excellence in the F1s, with some upgrades to the hardware no doubt.
Last year's F1 had a 5-inch 720p HD display protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 4. It had a sleek metal alloy chassis with the emerging popular Zircon Sand surface effect for a very premium look. The rear had a 13-megapixel camera with LED flash, partnered with a front-facing 8-megapixel selfie cam. It had a Qualcomm Snapdragon 616 processor inside backed by 3GB of RAM and 16GB of storage, along with microSD support and Android Lollipop skinned with OPPO's ColorUI.
The 8-megapixel front camera in itself is pretty strong for a selfie camera, but if the F1s is going to be a Selfie-Expert, it's going to need more than just that. There are several things we can expect that we've seen on other phones, like a dual front camera design, or a front LED flash.
Still, with OPPO restricting information on the device, we'll need to wait until August 3 before we find out.
