It is unusual for OPPO to launch similar sounding smartphones. But the 2018 counterpart of the OPPO A71 is here dubbed as the OPPO A71 (2018). The new smartphone has been shown the light in the Philippines and currently available in all the concept stores. There is of course not many changes that have been effected vis-à-vis its predecessor, the OPPO A71 (2017), which was launched last year geared towards the budget segment.
One of the drawbacks of the budget smartphones, especially from the Chinese manufacturers, is that more often than not they integrate a MediaTek processor. But that is not the case with the OPPO A71 (2018) as it integrates an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 SoC clocked at 1.8GHz. The OPPO A71 (2017), on the other hand, is powered by a MediaTek MT6750 SoC.
Complementing the Snapdragon 450 SoC is an Adreno 506 GPU, 2GB RAM and 16GB of native storage, which is further expandable up to 256GB via microSD card. Of note, last year's variant of the OPPO A71 comes with a higher 3GB RAM. The handset packs a 5.2-inch HD display with 1280x720 resolution. Android 7.1 Nougat slapped with OPPO's ColorOS 3.2 on top handles the software side of things while a non-removable 3,000mAh battery keeps the handset ticking.
The standard connectivity options include 4G LTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.2, GPS, microUSB port and a dual nano SIM slot. The handset weighs 137grams and measures 148.1x 73.8x7.6mm in dimension.
OPPO usually claims each of its phones as a Selfie Expert for its high-resolution selfie cameras, however, this handset is a far cry in this matter as it only packs a 5MP selfie shooter, same as that of its predecessor. Nevertheless, the AI Beauty Recognition technology adds value to it. Alongside, it mounts a standard 13MP rear camera laced with PDAF, f/2.2 aperture and LED flash. Available in Black and Gold color options, the OPPO A71 (2018) is currently priced at PHP7,990. If you are looking for a decent performing smartphone with a pocket-friendly price, the OPPO A71 (2018) has you certainly covered.
