Nokia 9 is still happening, might launch with fingerprint scanner and best-in-class camera in September
HMD Global unveiled several new devices at the MWC. Apparently, it still has two smartphones in the works: Nokia 8 Pro and Nokia 9. The higher-end one, the Nokia 9, is said to arrive in September with an under-display fingerprint scanner and best-in-class camera.
Although Nokia already launched a slew of devices at the recently-concluded Mobile World Congress 2018, it seems like there are still at least two more up in the pipeline. The devices in question are the Nokia 8 Pro and Nokia 9. Please do note that the Nokia 8 Pro is different from the newly-launched Nokia 8 Sirocco considering that the Nokia 8's Pro model ships with the latest Snapdragon 845 chipset while the latter arrived with the one-year-old Snapdragon 835 SoC. Previously, we might have thought that only the Nokia 8 Pro is bound to debut having the most powerful processor to date. However, a recent report reveals that the Nokia 9 is coming, and also has a Snapdragon 845 chip under the hood.
Among the two, apparently, the Nokia 9 is the higher-end one. In fact, the Nokia 9 is expected to feature a 5.7-inch display with an aspect ratio of 18:9 while the Nokia 8 Pro is said to sport a 5.5-inch screen. It will also come with larger RAM and storage capacity compared to its slightly lower-end sibling. The Nokia 9 might also be the first-ever Nokia handset to employ an under-display fingerprint scanner. Its ultimate selling point, however, is its camera department which is said to deliver better photography than what the penta-lens camera module of the Nokia 8 Pro can give. Well, talk about the "best-in-class" camera.
Of course, the Nokia 9 is more expensive than the Nokia 8 Pro. Rumors suggest that it might come in the price range of flagship phones such as the Samsung Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+. While the Nokia 8 Pro is expected to arrive in August, the Nokia 9 is tipped to unveil later, in September to be exact. We can assume that it will be HMD Global's offering for the IFA trade show in Berlin.
