HMD Global's first-ever Nokia-branded smartphone, the Nokia 6, which initially launched last January 2017 and landed in markets across the globe at the Mobile World Congress back in February 2017, will be receiving a sequel this week as what the latest information suggests. The next-gen Nokia 6, bearing the name Nokia 6 (2018), recently starred in a promotional ad which reveals that it will unveil 'three days' since the teaser came out, pointing to January 5 as the release date. Of course, we got that idea from the image showing Nokia feature phones piled up to look like a large number 3 as well as the Chinese characters on the bottom part which roughly translates as "The new Nokia 6."
Meanwhile, a day prior the announcement, the Nokia 6 (2018) with the model number TA-1054 surfaced on the benchmarking website Geekbench. It is worth noting, though, that the device with the same model number has already appeared in the TENAA authority last year to receive its certification. The Geekbench listing shows that the upcoming Nokia 6 (2018) comes with a Snapdragon 630 processor clocked at 2.21 GHz, a big jump from its predecessor's Snapdragon 430 chipset. It is expected to pack 4 GB of RAM and run on Android 8.0.0 Oreo instead of the one-year-old Android 7.1.1 Nougat OS. As for the benchmark scores, the handset reached 969 points in the single-core test and 4511 points in the multi-core test.
The rest of the details we know about the Nokia 6 (2018) is that it will sport a 5.5-inch display with a resolution of 1080 x 2160 pixels. Sadly, it will retain the usual 16:9 aspect ratio, which suggests that it is still not ready to feature a trendy 18:9 screen. Storage is either 32 GB or 64 GB while there's a microSD card slot for an additional 128 GB of memory. Camera-wise, it will arrive with a 16-megapixel rear snapper and an 8-megapixel selfie shooter. The fingerprint scanner already moved in the back from its previous location in the front fascia. Everything is kept running by a 3000 mAh battery. Color options include Black, White, and Blue. We will know more about the phone upon its release tomorrow.
